Pack of Burning Water

Sonsee realised that they hadn’t actually got a special place for the pups yet suddenly one morning. She tensed up in panic that they’d get lost and hurt themselves, and, as quickly as she could, explained this to Qaluun before whipping off into the back of the cave to explore. She carefully memorised every step she took, just in case she lost track of the scent of the outside air. Just after the first corner, she found a division of the path, and to one side there was a thin stream of light coming through from Xashi’s gold-glowing home.
Sonsee turned to face the chamber. There was an opening high up in one wall, too high for a pup to accidentally escape from. The chamber curved down into a sort of hollow below, while the ceiling curved up far, far above, far beyond what the light would let her see. She was sure bats nested up there, but they might be some entertainment for those old enough to see but not yet to run with the pack. The close edge of the depression was shallow enough to allow Sonsee down, but not enough to allow a small pup to get away without the effort needed making their activity obvious.
-----
Qaluun looked at the pitiful remains of their pile of prey. That would not be enough for several hungry pups, and yet he could not risk harm to his mate. He knew he had to hunt alone today. He whipped back to where Sonsee had chosen for her pups to quickly tell her where he was going.
“Don’t go near the hot pools!” she instructed. And it was stupid that it made him want to. So, as soon he set out hunting, he had a strong urge to check out the pools of water. He came close to one, close enough to feel the burning acrid taste fill his lungs, and an overwhelming sense of dread fill his mind.
Some part of his mind was sure he heard a hissing voice telling him to not touch the surface in a hideous, harsh tone, but it came just before one of the geysers erupted, so he could well have just imagined it. He hoped he had imagined it. Qaluun turned and bolted into the woods to pursue more inviting prey.
[Sonsee-Array and Qaluun consume 2 beaver kits and 2 snowshoe hares]
[Sonsee-Array has been gestating for 2 months]
[Sonsee-Array prepares for her pups’ arrival]
(Because they need a puppers den!)
[Qaluun goes hunting]

Sorry for doing this, I really doubt that it's an actual issue, but I just got a warning about art theft for using a clearly sourced image, with the search I did for it being from a recommended page about avoiding art theft, and given the standing of that, I feel like removing any images from my posts is the best course for me not being banned. It might be best to save on a Word document the images of the wolves I get assigned if my descriptions of the wolves don't suit for purposes.
