Workshop One - Day Two Exercise

Kalon Name: Caspian

Write about a time when your Kalon(s) lost something important or someone close to them: It was ridiculous to be this upset over a surfboard. Caspian knew it, and yet it still seemed to cause physical pain as his eyes glanced over to where his surfboard usually leaned against the wall by the door, ready to be grabbed at any moment. He could replace everything else that had been stolen, but the surfboard had been given to him by a friend, and it had been custom painted. There was no replacing it. He thought of the smoothness of it and the little notch on the right side. He thought of all the little scratches and paint that was chipped in a few places. He thought of the dulling blue color and the design of a ice blue dolphin leaping from waves. He thought of his friend.
Caspian blinked away a tear as he remembered learning to surf on it, originally being so afraid of crashing and eventually learning to just let go of his fear. How much it had helped with his anxiety and kept him from being miserable among his unhappy family. With a long sigh, he went to the surf shop he worked at and bought a new one. It was nice, bright red with orange stripes, but it wasn't his surfboard. It would take him a while to get used to it...

Workshop One - Day Three Exercise

Do they keep promises, or break them? Why? Graham likes to stick to his word when possible, but he ends up making a lot of promises he can't keep in an attempt to please other kalons. It's a bad habit he's trying to stop, but he finds that the words 'I promise' come out far too easily.
Are they a leader, follower, or loner? Why? Graham is a follower for sure. He wants to be in control, but the truth is he panics if put in charge of a situation and he depends on others too much.
If they could change one thing in their past, what would it be and why? He would have dropped his toxic friends early or, better yet, never have been their friends. He used to struggle a lot with bad friends who were clearly using them, but he sought their validation anyways.
Do they care what others think of them? Why or why not? While he's trying to care less, Graham cares very much about what others think of him. In his mind, if he isn't well-liked, then how can he like himself?
Do they tend to argue with others or do they avoid conflict? Graham can be fierce in an argument, but he generally avoids conflict.
Are they more spontaneous, or are they the type that always needs a plan? While he likes plans, Graham is more spontaneous.
Do they have any quirks, mannerisms, habits, or other defining characteristics? Graham is almost always messing with his hair, and he twirls strands of it when he's nervous.

Workshop One - Day Four Exercise

Write about them interacting with their favorite thing: caspian's paw brushed fondly over his surfboard as he sat in the sand by the beach, his back paws lazily splayed into the mouth of the ocean. as water washed over them, he closed his eyes and remembered when he was first given the surfboard by a high school friend who he hadn't seen in years. the memory was happy, but stained with the fact that the two had grown apart. blinking his eyes open again, he looked onto the horizon. the waves weren't quite built up enough yet, but that was okay - if he could, he'd spend the whole day just waiting on the beach until the waves were perfect. alas, taxes and chores.
he rolled over in the warm sand and let his gaze fall onto the surfboard nestled in the sand next to him. there was a notch in the right side, a result of a crash about a year ago when he had been surfing in a new area and hit some rocks. he flexed his arm slightly as if to prove to himself that it was no longer broken. with a chuckle at his own mistake and all of his other mistakes that had causes the smaller scratches, he glanced up and noticed that the waves were getting stronger. almost time. his paw stroked the icy blue dolphin design on the surfboard, custom painted by his friend. the darker waves were a little shaky, but he thought it gave the board character. and the sunset background certainly made up for it. what he wouldn't give for art talent like that!
as he fondly let a claw rest on the small signature on the edge of the board, the caw of a seagull reminded him to look back at the waves. aha! jumping to his paws, he snatched the board from the ground and practically threw himself in the water, paddling furiously, his belly pressed hard to the smooth board.
everything was perfect.

Workshop Two - Writing Prompt

Prompt: Caspian didn't have an especially eventful kithood, but it wasn't very happy. His family consisted of his significantly older sister, his mom, and his dad, along with a golden retriever named Sam who he considered his best friend. His parents bickered frequently, and he spent a lot of time trying to stay away from them. His sister only lived with them until he was 6, then she moved out to live with her girlfriend, who she later married. She tried to care for him, but grew more and more distant until he barely saw her anymore. When he was 14, his parents finally divorced, and he lived with his dad on week days and his mom on the weekends. As soon as he was 18, he moved out and went straight to he coast, one of the only places he remembers having a fun time with his family. He hasn't really spoken much to his family at all since then.

Where do they live and what is the geography like? caspian lives on a florida beach. it has moody weather, but the beautiful beach is worth it in his mind. the land itself is pretty flat and has minimal flora except in the dunes.
What is the society like there, is there a hierarchy? he lives in an unaltered modern world (with the addition of kalons, of course) -- there isn't really a hierarchy, necessarily.
What kind of technology does the world possess: modern, medieval, fantasy, etc.? modern!
Do many or only a few people live here? it's a pretty small town and he doesn't really have any neighbors too close, but they get a lot of tourists.
Is the history the same as our world, or is it different? If different, how? it's the same!
Is your Kalon(s) considered lower, middle, or upper class? lower middle!
What sort of language(s) is commonly spoken here? mostly english, but spanish is also fairly common.

Story Behind their Name: in reality, it was a raffle with a page limit and i panicked and looked up 'ocean related names' and it stuck. in his story, however, his parents lived near the ocean and wanted to give him an 'exotic' sounding name related to the ocean. he's quite fond of it.

Workshop Two - Day Three Exercise

How many different places have they lived: Four - Two places in California, Florida, and New York
Why did they settle down where they are currently: He was 13 when he moved to New York, but after two previous moves, he's pretty skilled at jumping straight into a new place. He quickly made friends at school and settled into his room in the apartment.
Is there an ideal place they want to live, or are they already there: He's pretty fond of New York, and plans to go to college here. When he eventually settles down with a mate and kits, he may want to move to somewhere that's better to raise a family (perhaps even a farm, he's always considered country life) but for now, he loves it here and there isn't really anywhere else he'd rather be.
What are the biggest moments that have defined their life:
- Both moves
- His grandfather on his mom's side dying
- Coming out to his parents
- Joining theater at school in New York
Does their future have a bright or darker outlook, and can they change it: Fairly bright. He plans to do acting on the side (community theater and such) while becoming a professional chocolate maker. Past a job, he hopes to have a mate and kits and possibly try country living. That could change if he loses sight of his goals and/or skips out on college.
