HAHAHA I'M NOT CRAZY
I've done this before, I can do it again...
Some of you may remember me from the 100 one shots challenge. I completed it in 100 days! I'll try to do the same with this challenge.
If I miss a prompt one day, I'll do two the next day. I'm doing these in order because I hate doing things out of order.

Appearance: Green eyes, tanned skin. Blonde hair in a bob. Tall.
Role: Protagonist
Aryana clearly remembered the horrible day it had happened.
As she lay in a bed- not her bed, it never was, and never could be, she wondered what would have happened. If things had been different. Would she be at home, laughing, smiling, happy, with her parents? She wouldn't be stuck in this bed, her crutches by the bunched up covers. Her leg wouldn't be bundled up in a cast.
She sighed and shut her eyes, pulling her arm back. It brushed her hair as it went by. Aryana had always enjoyed having short hair, how long would it be when she finally got out of this place?
She didn't even want to think about how terrible she must look, just a fifteen-year-old girl lying on a bed. Her eyes closed, face sullen, her leg in a cast, crutches by her bed. How many strangers had walked by and said, quietly enough so that she wouldn't hear, "oh my god, what happened?"
That had been Aryana's thoughts when the car crash occurred. What happened? And then the world went dark.
She allowed herself sink back into the horror of that day in the car. She thought about a lot. It was just a little hard to not think about something when it happened again whenever you closed your eyes.

It had been a cool July morning. Aryana had just returned from summer camp, and they were heading to pick up her little sister.
Her mom sat in the driver's seat, her green eyes that Aryana had inherited fixed on the road. Aryana's mother always drove as if her life was on the line, and though no one in the car knew it, this time it was true.
Her father curled his lips into a tight, forced smile, trying to support his wife. Daltons wore their emotions on their sleeves, though, and it was easy to tell that her father was just as stressed as his wife.
Aryana turned to face the back window and pursed her lips. "Dad, someone's really close to us."
He turned to look at his mirror. "Damn tailgaters..."
Aryana laughed and turned to face the front. The red light they were at seemed to last forever.
Apparently, the family's tailgater was at the end of their own patience, and suddenly lurched forwards and hit the Daltons car.
It wasn't a tiny bump, either. The car behind them had absolutely rammed them as if they were a bumper car. The family's car went veering off the road, and Aryana screamed.
"Oh my god!"
She heard so many people get out of their cars and race over to the Dalton's.
"Who has a phone?"
"Someone call 911!"
Is it that bad? Aryana wondered, dazed.
The next and last thing she remembered was the paramedics loading her onto the stretcher and the horrible, horrible, words of the reporter.
"...Only survivor."

Aryana opened her eyes. It was still a cool July morning, but not that morning.
She was due to be released from the hospital that day. still wearing the wretched cast and still holding the terrible crutch to her side.
She'd been kept at the hospital for quite some time, just making sure that she was stable and would even survive.
She was being taken in by her Aunt Susie, Uncle Noah, and their children Esta and Xander. Esta was thirteen, and Xander was sixteen.
She lay in the bed for some time, waiting for them to come and pick her up.
Then it sunk in.
Aryana was not going back to her parents. She would never see them again except for at the funeral.
Her little sister would be there. Shirley. Thank goodness she hadn't been in the car at the time. She was only ten... Aryana tried to sooth herself. I still have some family... she thought.
But her parents... her parents were gone. Forever.
She burst into tears as Aunt Susie opened the door, Uncle Noah, her cousins, and her sister trailing close behind them.
"Aryana!"
Susie pulled Aryana into a tight hug.
"Own. Leg."
"Sorry," She sighed. "I was just so worried!"
Aryana felt like a jerk now. Her aunt just cared for her...
Aryana grabbed her crutches and followed her family out of the hospital.
They were no longer just her aunt and uncle. They were her mother and father.
But it was too early for Aryana to let that sink in. Her parents were still her parents, but Susie and Noah could eventually be her parents too.
Her aunt and uncle were taking her home in a bus. With a professional at the wheel, maybe it'd have a lower chance of crashing.
Aryana shivered. The metal at her feet looked like it could fall apart at any moment... and where were the seatbelts?
They made it home with no trouble. Aryana went inside and immediately sat on the couch, hardly saying a word to anyone.
She waited for the day she wouldn't need the crutches anymore.

The crutches were finally gone. Aryana had some troubles getting around without them since after having them for so long, life without them was almost foreign.
But they were gone, and that was the important part.
The family had gone out to dinner to celebrate 'the freedom of Aryana' legs,' and she smiled while eating her pizza.
Aunt Susie wasn't her mother.
Uncle Noah wasn't her father.
Not right now, at least. But maybe one day...

Appearance: Brown eyes, fair skin, curly dark brown hair that is very messy and reaches his shoulders. Short
Role: Protagonist
Name: Elyse Ozzy Seward
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Appearance: Blue eyes, pale skin, curly dull blonde hair that reaches her shoulders. Average height.
Role: Deuteragonist
Name: Bettye Jeffery Holt
Age: 14
Gender: Female
Appearance: Hazel eyes, tanned skin, curly red hair in a high tail
Kris didn't like his name.
It was pronounced the exact same way as 'Chris' and he often asked for it to spelt that way. People kept trying to pronounce Kris in the weirdest way possible, his name had been pronounced like 'crease,' like 'Christ' but without the 't' and his personal favorite, 'Kiris' with the front dragged out, like Kerrrr-iss.
This was just one of the many, many things he thought about while walking through the woods with his friends, Elyse and Bettye. Elyse always joked that they were the 'special spelling bunch,' and when they first met and introduced themselves, they were all writing each other's names wrong. Bettye was Betty, Kris was Chris, and Elyse was Elise.
When they asked each other for numbers, Everyone had to correct each other on their names. They had a debate that same day about who had the 'special spelling disease' the worst, and who had the mildest case. Everyone unanimously said that Bettye had the worst one, Elyse had the mildest one, and Kris's was only slightly worse. Ever since that day, the group had become tightly knit friends.
And now they were going on one of their weekly hikes through the forest.
Thankfully, the forest they always walked through was a real forest, left completely intact and untouched by machines. Every time they went, they would undoubtedly go on a new path without even knowing they were doing it.
Kris' personal favorite venture had been when they were walking, and Elyse slipped on some mud and slid onto the bank of a lake that the trio didn't even know existed.
Some days, Kris would just clamber down and drink in the scenery, dip his toes in the water, splash his face with the cool, clean water. It felt so much different than splashing plain tap water on his face.
Kris often let his mind wander, and this day was no exception. As he thought about, well, everything, he didn't look where he was going.
He took a step over the edge of the hill and tumbled down, landing into the lake with a splash.
He moaned even as Elyse and Bettye laughed, pulling himself out of the water, and shaking like a wet dog just to spite them.
Kris grinned devilishly, and Elyse rolled her eyes and playfully punched Kris. "Nicely done. Now we're all wet."
"That was my intention!"
"Jerk."
Kris snorted as they continued their walk, and came to a clearing they'd never seen before. Tree branches draped over the sides like natural curtains, making the clearing appear eerie.
Bettye moaned. "This had better be natural. We don't want machines moving in on our forest."
Elyse snorted. "Our forest."
"What? It's not like anyone else comes here."
Kris shrugged. "I dunno, guys. This place actually seems pretty cool."
"Was that a pun?" Bettye asked, rolling her eyes.
"No, but it would've been a really good one!"
"You're hopeless."
Kris shrugged and bounded around the clearing, trying (and failing) to climb trees, while Elyse climbed tree after tree. She was basically a monkey. Female Tarzan, raised by spider monkeys or something.
Kris spotted a large rock at the edge of the clearing. Can I climb that? He wondered.
He decided to try. Pressing his chest to the stone and using his hands to push himself upwards, he made his way up.
Finally, he sat proudly at the top.
Wait... was it just him, or was the rock moving up and down? Did he feel shifting beneath him? Was the rock... moving?
Bettye turned around, and Kris watched her blue eyes widen as she stared at the rock Kris sat on. "Kris..." She whispered. "Get off that thing. Now."
"What?" But he slid off anyway.
Elyse looked just as concerned as Bettye did. "Oh god. Too late."
Kris slowly turned around and bit back a scream as the rock began to rise upwards.
He watched in shock and terror as the 'rock' turned to face the trio.
No, not a rock.
"TROLL!" Bettye screamed.
A troll? The thing still looked like a rock to Kris, at least until it slowly blinked its midnight blue eyes. Its mouth slowly opened, and Kris watched with a mixture of fear and interest as it let out a roar that shook him to his core.
"RUN, IDIOTS!" Elyse screamed.
Kris tore his eyes away from the troll and followed his friends.
They ran for what felt like forever, Kris' wet sleaves slapping his skin.
Wet...
"Into the lake!" He shouted. He doubted that massive rock... thing... could stay afloat in water, much less swim.
"Nice thinking!" Bettye said, a small smile making its way onto her face.
The trio submerged themselves into the cool water and swam.
Elyse surfaced and looked at the giant thing. It slowly blinked, grumbled in frustration, and left, deciding that three humans were not worth risking its life on.
The group clambered out of the water.
"How'd you know it was a troll?" Kris asked. He'd heard about magic, believed in it, but never, never in a million years, thought he'd encounter it head on.
Bettye sighed. "We're not human, Elyse and I. We're... nature sprites."
Kris watched as his friends shed their human forms, and took on their real forms.
Elyse had yellow-green hair, grey eyes, and olive skin.
Bettye, on the other hand, had eyes the color of lemons, olive skin, and auburn hair.
"Wha-what? I heard that nature sprites were all gon!"
Elyse grinned. "Kris... you have a lot to learn about magic."

The sands of the desert blew in Shana's face as she walked, the soles of her shoes kicking up impressive clouds that billowed behind her like smoke. Her legs ached and complained more and more with every step. She had to blink furiously to get the sand out of her eyes, bu she pressed on.
The city of North Center was one of the very few places of relative safety in the world of Lurene, and Shana shuddered. She'd been following two people for quite some time now. At first, she'd just seen them slip out their windows, and Shana assumed they were just a couple kids out on an unsupervised late night excursion. But when she saw them pull hoods over their faces, she got curious. People only hid their faces when it was an absolute necessity.
Her curiosity only grew when she saw them leave the city. Central Lurene was the only safe place, so she assumed they were just headed to South Center, or West Center, or even East Center. But then... she'd watched them walk straight past South Center, and she didn't turn back and leave these crazy people to whatever business they had, going out so late and so far.
They didn't take their hoods off except for sleeping, and Shana had quietly crept up on them on the first night to see if she could get a good look at their faces.
They were both quite young. Shana was fifteen, and the two didn't look that much younger, but they were definitely at least a little younger.
The boy had pale skin and long, wavy brown hair that brushed the tops of his shoulders. The girl had dark skin and black hair that was down and reached her back while she was sleeping, but she always had a hair tie wrapped around her wrist, and she didn't wear a hood, but instead a mask with a hole at the back for the high tail she had while awake.
Shana admittedly felt a little stalker-ish, following two people at their heels. She even took the time to step in their footprints as to not spark alarm.
Their hoods were down, now, and the girl's mask was off.
They sat down under the shade of a tree, by a much-needed pool of water.
"We'll never find it," the boy moaned.
"Yes, we will, Fenton!" The girl argued.
Fenton... so that's his name, Shana realised.
The girl lifted her head up, her brown eyes piercing into Shana's steel grey ones. "Come," she ordered. "You haven't had anything to drink. We have water."
Shana realised with a start that she'd peeked out of her hiding place, and as quickly as possible, she ducked back.
She heard footsteps, and she gulped and looked up. The boy, Fenton was staring at her with slightly angry, hazel eyes.
"Come on! Are you that stupid? We saw you the very first day! Neither of us thought you'd last this long."
He roughly grabbed her wrist and practically dragged her to the pool.
"Hello," the girl said. "How nice of you to join us! I'm Abby Peirce. You?"
"Shana Cooper. I assume that's your brother, Fenton Pierce? I heard his name earlier."
Fenton shook his head. "Nope. Fenton Cole." He studied her for a minute, stared at his feet and whispered, under his breath. "Stalker."
Both Shana and Abby laughed, and Abby, sipping water from a water bottle, spit her's out.
"Oi. That reminds me," the younger girl said, wiping her mouth.
She passed Shana another water bottle. "It's not far from here. You shouldn't need too many of those."
"What's not too far from here?" Shana asked, gratefully drinking her water and eating the apple Abby had just passed her.
"Vale Grove."
"Huh? I've never heard of anywhere called Vale Grove in my entire life!" Shana said, raising an eyebrow.
Fenton's hazel eyes glimmered. "Oh, you're in for a surprise."
He wiped his lips and shoved both the apple core and water bottle into his backpack, then motioned for Shana to hand him her's.
As they walked, Abby filled Shana in on why they didn't tell Shana to join them earlier. "Well," she began. "We wanted to see if you'd make it a day. Then we waited until we had enough time to split the remaining rations amongst three people. I'll admit, it's less than we would've liked, even though Vale Grove is just a few hours up ahead, walking in the Borderlands is more than a little draining."
Shana blinked profusely. These people used so many different words. Borderlands. Vale Grove. "I have literally never heard of the Borderlands."
Abby shrugged. "That's because we made it up. This desert is the border between Vale Grove and the Center."
"Creative."
Fenton smiled. "I like you," he said. "You're not boring. Most people in the Center are super boring. They're just all; 'ooh sheltered life. Hmm, I wonder what's beyond the city. OOH SHINY."
He pressed his hands to his stomach and left out a rumbling belly laugh.
They walked for a little longer until the sand turned to grass, and the trees and water spots got closer together until finally, Shana felt grass brush her ankles.
Abby and Fenton stopped at some crumbling columns. There were beautiful obsidian columns with marble designs, but they were crumbling none the less.
Bricks lay strewn around the area, and Shana raised an eyebrow. "Uh, why did we stop?"
Fenton turned to face Shana.
"Welcome," he said, his hazel eyes glittering. "To Vale Grove."

Two shorts today, since I missed yesterday's

When Derrick fled Vale Grove after the attack that devastated it, he never expected to find another survivor.
Brittany Clarke. The name was melodic on his tongue, and sometimes, after dark, he'd keep calm by repeating the name, loving how the end of it rolled off his tongue and faded into the night.
She had the shortest braid Derrick had ever seen. He hadn't even noticed it at first, as it blended into the rest of her hair. It wasn't even a real braid because it was pressed against her hair, it didn't hang or flip over her shoulder. But Derrick had no words for a braid like Brittany's.
Her hair was midnight black. From the Center, obviously. She even had the perfect West Center look, dark-ish skin, though most people in West Center had skin a few shades darker than Brittany's, black hair, and eyes the color of the steel of the buildings in West Center.
Brittany was twelve and Derrick was only a year younger at thirteen. When he pressed Brittany for details on how a West Center citizen like herself got to Vale Grove, and how she managed to survive, she just pressed a finger to her lips and shook her head.
Derrick didn't get it at first, at least until she opened her mouth and mouthed 'no speak.'
At least, he thought it was 'no speak' it might've been 'nosey.'
Brittany was mute. He understood most of her lip movements, and if the word was short, she drew it in the sand of the desert. He once asked her 'Do you know ASL?' and she responded by drawing a question mark. People in the center didn;t know what ASL was, apparently.
Brittany slept next to him, her head cradled under his arm. He could feel her soft breaths trail through the hanging fabric of his shirt, and he sighed and lifted his arm, letting her head drop to his lap. He slowly inched away, and even as the small thud of Brittany's head hitting the ground stirred up a cloud of dust, she didn't even stir.
Maybe mute people slept better?
He yawned and stretched out beside her. He was supposed to be standing guard right now, but he was so, so, sleepy, and the night made his eyelids droop. His shoulders sagged and his head rolled to his chest before he flopped to the ground, asleep.

Derrick woke to someone kicking his side.
He blinked his eyes and stared up, confused.
Brittany. She looked mad.
"Wha?" He asked, cocking his head.
Brittany crossed her arms and folded her hands, then tucked them beneath her head and shut her eyes, mimicking a sleeping person.
A sleeping person who was no supposed to be asleep.
"Damn it, sorry. At least we're not dead, I guess?" He tried.
Brittany just stared at him, tapping her foot.
"Oh, yeah. We should get going."
Brittany rolled her eyes and spread her hand in a circle, then put on a very confused face.
"I don't know where we're going, either," Derrick admitted. "But we're going somewhere!"
The two walked along the desert sands. The plus side to Derrick falling asleep was that both he and Brittany got some extra sleep in, and they didn't die. Bonus!
Brittany didn't mimic his attitude. Her eyebrows remained furrowed in a glare, and Derrick just shrugged apologetically.
It was then that Derrick heard something odd. Something very odd. Something like heavy footsteps moving in a row. The beating of drums.
"Do you hear that too?" He asked, looking around for any possible source of the noise.
Brittany nodded slowly, her grey eyes flitting everywhere.
He watched her mouth 'oh my god' and point over a hill.
Derrick screamed the hairs on the back of his neck raising.
A massive army marched over the hill. They weren't human either.
Each one of them looked like a cobra. Except... they had arms. They were snakes, and they had arms. Six of them.
Their colors blended into the sunrise. Pink, orange, and dark purple dotted their scales- their bodies looked like tye-dye, really.
They might've looked funny... if only they didn't have teeth like blades and snake tongues. Their pupils were barely even visible, they were little more than slits- Derrick could hardly see them.
One of them let out the highest pitched noise he'd heard in his life, and they charged.
Brittany took off running before Derrick did. Smart girl. He followed her close on her heels and made the mistake of glancing back.
Good god, the things were fast. He could never outrun them.
Brittany grabbed his arm and sprinted. Derrick just continued to scream- he felt like his arm would pop out of its socket any second now.
Brittany crashed into a dune and rolled. They fell head over feet, rolling.
The snake-beasts didn't see them, thankfully. They must've thought that the two were up ahead.
Brittany stared at him. "I have a confession to make," she said, meekly.
"YOU CAN SPEAK?"
She gulped.
"Well, yes. That was sort of my confession. Whoopsee."
Derrick sighed. "Why'd you keep it a secret?"
"I didn;t trust you."
"And you trust me now?"
"Mmhmm."
Derrick tried to come up with a snappy comeback, but he didn't find one. He just gave his friend a tight hug.
"I'm glad."

Roseann "Rose" Haight held the strap of her backpack tightly to her body, puffing as she raced outside. The teachers of Grand Ridge High yelled at their (former) students to slow down and stop running, because someone could get hurt and whatever nonsense they'd come up with that time.
Rose had thought she was the youngest in her year- she'd been born September 1st.
Then it turned out there were two other girls in Grade Nine wit the same birthday! Janie Lacey and Amanda Kingsley. The trio only met each other that year, but they bonded very quickly and considered each other close friends.
Rose knelt by the garbage can and pulled out everything important. Her backpack was torn and ripped, and her parents had given her the okay to throw it out after the last day of school but no sooner. It had been such a wait, but it made sense. Shopping for a new backpack would just result in complaining from Rose. Shopping could be fun when it was her choice, but her feet often ached by the end of the shopping.
"Ooh, nice and symbolic," Amanda said, coming up behind her.
Janie popped up behind Amanda, causing her to suddenly drop her bag in the trash.
"Oh well, that's what I wanted to do, anyhow."
She rooted through her bag a little and found some things that she'd be keeping.
Janie laughed. "You guys... are your parents okay with this?" She asked, tossing her own bag into the trash and extracting the important things.
"Mine are!" Rose said with a laugh. "Amanda?"
The blonde haired girl shrugged. "We get a new backpack every year, anyway. Besides, now someone can use this old one! It's a win-win!"
"You are so weird... Both of you..." Janie muttered.
The trio walked on, laughing and talking with each other.
"Hey," Amanda said. "This was our last day of being freshmen. We should go out with a bang, and I don't mean school bags hitting a trashcan!"
Janie nodded. "Of course! You in, Roseann?"

"I call you Roseann to annoy you."
"Real friends insult each other daily," Rose laughed.
"Nah, we just poke fun," Amanda said, elbowing Janie.
"Poke, poke."
"So, what first?" Rose asked.
"Let's go to Area 51!" Janie tried.
"Let's not."
They laughed as they walked. Amanda was barely able to hold in her laughter, and it eventually turned into 'donkey coughs' as Janie called them. Loud honking came from Amanda's throat, and as her laughter died down, so did the coughs.
"M'kay. I'm done, now."
"That's good. We don't want you dying on us, now, do we?" Janie laughed
"Nope. I'm too cool for death. Death is for wimps."
The group stopped in front of a sign that read 'Serenity Memorial Park.'
"What's so serene about death?" Rose asked, raising an eyebrow.
"When my grandpa died, the funeral dude made it look like he was sleeping. He was wearing all these clothes he'd never wear in real life, but... the guy was talented. He looked like he'd died in his sleep, not from a heart attack, all alone..." Amanda was getting really choked up, now. She'd never opened up like this. She always bottled up her feeling or disguises them with a joke.
The tears were flowing now. "And he was my favorite grandpa ever, and he always made me laugh... He never cared about what anyone thought about him, and his last words to me, to everyone, were that he loved us and that he'd miss us, and I told him he wasn't gonna die, but I was wrong... I knew that when my mom got the phone call and started crying he was gone... Gone from my life, gone from the world. Gone from ME. He just slipped through our fingers! The doctors thought he was gonna make it, and they left him alone, and when they came back..."
She didn't finish her sentence, just fell into heavy sobs.
"...I miss him. I miss him so, so, much."
Janie and Rose missed him too. Amanda's grandpa was the coolest old person they'd ever met. Well, also the only cool old person they'd every met, but whatever.
Before they knew what was happening, the group was leaving Serenity Memorial Park and were headed to Peace Blossom Cemetary, where Amanda's grandpa was buried.
They clasped her hand as they stared at his grave.

Roseann "Rose" Haight held the strap of her backpack tightly to her body, puffing as she raced outside. The teachers of Grand Ridge High yelled at their (former) students to slow down and stop running, because someone could get hurt and whatever nonsense they'd come up with that time.
Rose had thought she was the youngest in her year- she'd been born September 1st.
Then it turned out there were two other girls in Grade Nine wit the same birthday! Janie Lacey and Amanda Kingsley. The trio only met each other that year, but they bonded very quickly and considered each other close friends.
Rose knelt by the garbage can and pulled out everything important. Her backpack was torn and ripped, and her parents had given her the okay to throw it out after the last day of school but no sooner. It had been such a wait, but it made sense. Shopping for a new backpack would just result in complaining from Rose. Shopping could be fun when it was her choice, but her feet often ached by the end of the shopping.
"Ooh, nice and symbolic," Amanda said, coming up behind her.
Janie popped up behind Amanda, causing her to suddenly drop her bag in the trash.
"Oh well, that's what I wanted to do, anyhow."
She rooted through her bag a little and found some things that she'd be keeping.
Janie laughed. "You guys... are your parents okay with this?" She asked, tossing her own bag into the trash and extracting the important things.
"Mine are!" Rose said with a laugh. "Amanda?"
The blonde haired girl shrugged. "We get a new backpack every year, anyway. Besides, now someone can use this old one! It's a win-win!"
"You are so weird... Both of you..." Janie muttered.
The trio walked on, laughing and talking with each other.
"Hey," Amanda said. "This was our last day of being freshmen. We should go out with a bang, and I don't mean school bags hitting a trashcan!"
Janie nodded. "Of course! You in, Roseann?"

The air was cool and crisp as fourteen-year-old James Haines walked down the sidewalk to his house.
He breathed it in. He'd always loved the outdoors, especially when the weather was transferring out of cold winter and into the warm spring.
It was quit, too. He liked that. It gave him a chance to breathe in the scenery, the sounds of the world, without yelling and screaming interrupting the peace. His peace.
His feet crunched leaves and ice. Sometimes, it took him a while to walk home from school because he'd be crushing ice beneath the soles of his shoes. It was fun, the sound of the crackling ice was like glass, except less sharp and actually fun to break.
His was wearing sneakers, though, so whenever his shoes hit the water he was left with soggy socks.
That didn't stop him, though. It didn't come anywhere close to slowing him, much less stopping him.
Then he heard a much more unwelcome noise.
Yelling.
He assumed it was a young child, yelling for their own enjoyment. He always hated it when people did that, and sometimes, though he'd never admit it, he felt personally offended, as if they were trying to annoy him.
But as he slowed his walk and actually listened to the yelling, he realised it was more than that. Someone was in danger.
He tried to assure himself that the person, whoever they were, was just in a disagreement with their parents. Or siblings. Or grandparents. He tried to think that it'd all be fine and dandy and that he could keep walking.
But he couldn't do it. Couldn't leave a person- a possible endangered person- to luck.
He texted his mom that he'd be home late, and tucked his phone away.
He raced off, hoping against hope that the person was okay.

They really weren't. They were a girl with straight brown hair, fair skin, and when she looked at him with wide eyes, he noticed that they were a deep, chocolatey brown.
"How'd you find me?" She whispered. There was a bruise covering one of her eyes, she had a busted lip, he nose was bleeding, and her arm was hanging at an awkward angle.
She was wearing a white tank top and blue jeans, but the jeans were torn and the tank top was blood stained and there was a cut on the side. James only briefly glanced at it, because the thick red blood seeping from the wound made him shrink and grimace. Blood had always freaked him out, even if it was just from a paper cut or cut lip.
It scared him, even more, when it was that bad.
"Uh... you were yelling pretty loudly... Should I call 9-1-1? My parents? Are you hurt?"
She rolled her eyes. "Nope, not hurt at all. I just slipped a little and screamed for absolutely no reason. This blood? It's all ketchup."
"Oh, really?"
"Oh my god," she groaned. "You're even dumber than I thought you were! Did you hear, they took the word gullible out of the dictionary."
"That's weird. What's your parent's number? What happened? What's your name?"
She moaned, sitting up. "They didn't actually take gullible out of the dictionary, you dolt. It's none of your business what happened. My name is Rachel if you must know. My parents are dead."
James was more than a little shaken up by that. "...Dead? This isn't another joke, is it?"
"No, dear god, would I JOKE about something that serious?" She narrowed her eyes. "Don't answer that, kid. Don't try to be cheeky with me."
"I wasn't gonna-"
"Oh, yeah. I forgot who I was talking to."
James grunted and offered his hand. At least she accepted that much. That was a start, wasn't it?
"Seriously," he said with an exasperated sigh. "What. Happened."
She winced. "Damn it," I can't walk. We'll stay here. I'll tell you what happened, then you can call your parents. Kapeesh?"
"Fine."
"I was walking. Just like you, home from school, you know? I found this stone on the ground. It wasn't a pebble or a little rock. It was green... and... pulsing. Not normal."
"Obviously."
"I'm supposed to be the sarcastic one. That's my job."
She continued. These... things. Reptiles, lizards, whatever the hell you want to call them, burst out the trees... Attacked me. Knocked me over. All they wanted was the stone. I was fighting them off, but they pinned my arms. Snatched the stone. Then they ran."
She finished the story with a sigh. "There. You happy now. Call your parents."
He sighed and dialed them.
"Hey, guys. Someone's hurt. We're at... 121 Elizabet Avenue. Her name is Rachel, she was attacked by some thugs an they stole valubles from her. Her name is Rachel."
Her shut off the phone. "There. You good?"
Rachel forced a smile. "You're as dumb as I thought you were..."

Celeste's hands were curled into fists as she stared into Roy's eyes. One of his stupid little smiles was plastered onto his even stupider face.
"Come at me, Luna," he hissed.
Celeste moaned. She hated the nickname 'Luna,' Celeste was absolutely fine, not every name needed a nickname.
"How would you like it if I started calling you Ro?" She said to no one.
"I'd like that very much," he said with a crooked toothed grin, trying to annoy her as usual. "It's a pretty good nickname!"
Great, she had the stupid kid distracted. Her sweaty hands wrapped tightly around the sword hilt and her muscles tensed.
She swung. The sword deflected off his body- that was to be expected, of course. All trainees had metal plates under their clothes so they wouldn't suffer serious injuries during training.
But Roy had obviously been expecting her strike because his body was as stiff as a board, and she toppled.
She heard his terrible, nasal laugh as he swung his sword, striking her on the side.
Celeste spun with the strike, toppling off the platform they were standing on.
Her fall slowed, because of enchantments and whatnot scattered everywhere. She hadn't really been paying attention in class that day...
She tried to pull off one of those trick moves she always saw the seniors do- pressing into the ground and pushing up, then using the enchantments to fly up and end your opponent's confidence with a well-timed strike as you flew over their head.
For a few amazing seconds, Celeste thought she'd succeeded- her feet were off the ground, she felt a tugging in not just her body, but in her heart and soul, too.
Deep breaths, Celeste. Steady breaths, Celeste.
But it turned out to be just a false alarm. Celeste plunged back to the ground, wincing as she struck.
Roy peered over the edge and shouted down. "LOSER!"
Celeste sighed and went over to the other side of the platform, where a ladder hung.
She began her ascent, a little embarrassed that she'd messed up so badly.
Roy smiled at her with his usual obnoxious face. "You're going down," he laughed. "Again."
The world turned red. Celeste had enough of Roy's behaviour, he acted like he was so high and mighty, all powerful.
She gripped the sword. Her sword, one that she could see slamming into Roy's helmet...
She made her move before Roy finished his laughing session, and his laughter was cut off, his head jerked up and he fell backwards, dropping his sword on the way down.
He slowed on the way, though he misjudged where the ground was and when just the tips of his shoes touched the ground, he pitched forwards and landed on his face.
Celeste beamed at her small victory. She assumed that Roy would just go back up and make fun of her for the 1000000th time, but he just threw his arms up and walked away.
Celeste shrugged. Whenever someone beat Roy, he'd have the same reaction. Roy North was a sore loser.

That same day, at lunch, Celeste ran into someone. Literally.
The other girl's lunch tray flew into the air, but she snapped her fingers and the tray flew back into her hand, followed by her food.
"Wow," Celeste whispered. "I wish I could do that!"
The girl shrugged. "I wish I could show Roy North who's boss! I can't use my magic on him. Unfair!"
"I'm Celeste Gladwin. Roy insists on calling me Luna."
"Annabella Wood. Roy keeps calling me Anna, Bell, or Bella. He will not stop."
She waved her hand, sending one of her milk cartons onto Celeste's plate.
"See you around! Kill Roy for me, okay, hun?"
Later in the evening, everything changed.
Celeste was in her pajamas and brushing her teeth when she heard knocking at the door.
"What?!" She asked. Hollered, really.
"Geez, Luna. Just trying to tell you that there's a meeting in the square."
After giving him a good slap for calling her Luna again, she headed to the square, Roy glaring at her her the whole time.
The leader of their community cleared his throat.
"It is with a heavy heart," he said. "That I inform you that Annabella Wood was killed. Poisoned. By another member of our group."
Celeste wobbled. THAT Annabella? The girl she'd seen, happy and alive only nine hours earlier. No, it was all a joke... it had to be... Was there something in her lunch?
"We have to leave," the leader continued, his voice low and hoarse
Then there was a crash at the door, and an army burst in.
There was screaming, and before she knew that was happening, Celeste was running.
She burst into the training room and threw herself at the ground.
She sailed up through the air and soared through the open window.
Celeste made a slow descent to the ground, and ran to catch up with the rest of the community.
They stopped in front of another buolding, and with a heavy heart, they all stepped inside.

"Wow," Celeste whispered. "I wish I could do that!"
The girl shrugged. "I wish I could show Roy North who's boss! I can't use my magic on him. Unfair!"
"I'm Celeste Gladwin. Roy insists on calling me Luna."
"Annabella Wood. Roy keeps calling me Anna, Bell, or Bella. He will not stop."
She waved her hand, sending one of her milk cartons onto Celeste's plate.
"See you around! Kill Roy for me, okay, hun?"
Later in the evening, everything changed.
Celeste was in her pajamas and brushing her teeth when she heard knocking at the door.
"What?!" She asked. Hollered, really.
"Geez, Luna. Just trying to tell you that there's a meeting in the square."
After giving him a good slap for calling her Luna again, she headed to the square, Roy glaring at her her the whole time.
The leader of their community cleared his throat.
"It is with a heavy heart," he said. "That I inform you that Annabella Wood was killed. Poisoned. By another member of our group."
Celeste wobbled. THAT Annabella? The girl she'd seen, happy and alive only nine hours earlier. No, it was all a joke... it had to be... Was there something in her lunch?
"We have to leave," the leader continued, his voice low and hoarse
Then there was a crash at the door, and an army burst in.
There was screaming, and before she knew that was happening, Celeste was running.
She burst into the training room and threw herself at the ground.
She sailed up through the air and soared through the open window.
Celeste made a slow descent to the ground, and ran to catch up with the rest of the community.
They stopped in front of another buolding, and with a heavy heart, they all stepped inside.

Sheldon stood outside Sun Valley High, watching June walk past him.
June was one of the most popular students at Sun Valley High, and at first, he'd thought it was because she was pretty and new.
But as everyone got to know her, they realised that she was smart, funny, and just so nice to be around.
She had fashion sense, too, and Sheldon wondered how long she had to spend in front of the mirror to pick out her clothes.
She was wearing a cerulean accordion skirt that hung to her ankles. He could catch a glimpse of black and white dotted socks, and brogue shoes in green and blue.
She also wore a long-sleeved shirt, tucked into her skirt, that was covered by a navy blue jacket.
The school didn't have uniforms, necessarily, but you died have to wear the navy blue tie as well as the jacket, which had a small embroidered patch on it with the school symbol- a hawk with a moon in the backdrop.
Sheldon looked away before her chocolate brown eyes met his plain blue ones.
He was so plain compared to her. He wore plain, striped trousers, an almond colored, long sleeved shirt, and the same navy blue jacket over his shirt.
He sighed and continued walking. June had gotten so popular in such a short amount of time... Sheldon was silly to think that he had even a tiny chance to become popular in a few months before he went off to college.
There was another reason for June's popularity, too. She took thing so well...
Especially after the deaths of her parents.
June told everyone that her parent's arteries had been cut while they were skating and that they'd bled out before they could be saved, her best friend, Wynonna, nodding solemnly to everything the blonde girl said. Wynonna had been there during the accident.
"Hey, what's your name?"
June's voice snapped Sheldon out of his thoughts and back into the real world. June was talking to him!
"Uh... my name's Shel. Don. Sheldon. Sheldon Paulson. Sheldon Cornelious Paulson."
June laughed. "I'm sure you know my name, but in case you don't, it's June. June Piper. June Honora Piper."
Sheldon laughed so hard he just about choked on air.
"God... you're even funnier than I remember!"
June smiled. "Nice to hear that! How old are you, Sheldon?"
"Sixteen. I'll be seventeen tomorrow."
June's eyes widened, "No way! I'll be seventeen tomorrow!"
Sheldon's eyes mimicked her's.
"Really? I'll have to give you an invitation, then! I sort of have no choice now, right?"
June nodded. "No choice."
The party would be at Sheldon's house.
"See you tomorrow!" Sheldon said as June left.

Sheldon moaned. He had to wear a tux. A stupid tux!
He spotted June, smartly dressed, as per usual.
"Hey, June!" He shouted to her, waving.
She simply smiled and waved back, looking a bit absent-minded.
"So..." Sheldon said, tapping his foot on the floor. "Are your grandparents picking you up? Your aunt and uncle?"
"Grandparents," she said, chewing her lip.
The party was... fun. A little quiet, but fun. Sheldon talked to June most of the time, but he did talk to his other friends, of course.
Did June consider him a friend? He hoped so.
They had cake- ice cream cake, and as per usual, Sheldon didn;t get presents, but instead money to buy his own things.
June slipped on her jacket the second the celebrations drew to a close and headed out the door. "Bye," she said hurriedly, not even noticing that she'd put her boots on the wrong feet.
"Wait!" Sheldon shouted after her. "Leaving so soon?"
She gulped. "Uh, yeah. I've gotta go. Now."
Her grandparent's car pulled up and out stepped two forty-year-olds.

"What the hell?" Sheldon spat. "You said your GRANDPARENTS were coming! What's going on here?"
The woman who'd just stepped out of the car frowned. "June, what did you tell this boy?"
June was silent for a few minutes before bursting into tears.
She pulled Sheldon aside, letting her head settle on Sheldon's shoulder.
"I'm sorry," she managed to spit out. "I'm a liar..."
"What are you talking about?"
"My parents are alive?" June said. "They never died. I just told Wynnona that my parents were dead... She wasn't supposed to believe me. She told the whole school that my parents were dead, and I couldn't back out, and just... I'm sorry..."
Sheldon sighed. "You... you..."
"I know. I'm so sorry. You trusted me, and I lied to you."
"You should tell people," Sheldon muttered.
"I'm sorry."
"You've said that five times now.Seriously. Just promise me that you'll tell people- gradually, of course, and we're good. Kapeesh?"
June sniffled. "Kapeesh."
"Good, see you tomorrow."
Sheldon watched, a small smile on his face, as June raced to her parent's car.
He chuckled a little to himself.
She was never going to hear the end of this.
