The Exile wrote:stonefur couldn't believe the votes being cast in her direction.
angry glares fell upon her, and she whipped her head about, her
jaw slackening. "you-- you all can't seriously believe i did that?"
she yowled, her stomach twisting. she felt sick, bile rising in her
throat. no one answered her, and the glares that fell hot on her
raised pelt made it clear what her clanmates believed.
"so you killed them?" came a low, chilling growl, and stonefur's
head whipped around, eyes widening. "n-no! i would never commit
such a gruesome and senseless cri-"
"SILENCE!" the white she-cat leapt forward, jaws connecting with
stonefur's throat. the she-cat struggled, claws unsheathing as she
used her back legs to tear at snowstar's belly and sides, eyes wide
with terror. she choked as the teeth only ripped more deeply, more
viciously into her neck, and the she-cat coughed, gargling blood
before she was tossed aside like a piece of meat that'd been handed
to a dog. fury burned in snowstar's eyes as the grey she-cat attempted
to get away, getting up as crimson poured into the sand, wetting her
paws as she stumbled, staggering towards the exit.
"snowstar! stop!" hemlocktail screeched, moving to aid the dying
she-cat, but rosetail shifted, standing in his way.
"leave it be." she snapped, but her own gaze showed she was torn, her
eyes gleaming with guilt and pain, her muscles taught.
the white leader knocked stonefur onto her side, and raised her claws,
slashing her eyes like the scored wounds that had been carved over
aspenfur's optics, before finally sinking her teeth into the back of
the shrieking she-cat's neck, ending it with a snap of bone.
silence filled the clan as everyone looked on in a mix of horror and
unease.
tears burned at snowstar's eye's, and she turned, teeth bared. "i will
be in my den." she spat. "do NOT disturb me." the white she-cat
stalked away, and left the clan reeling, barely beginning to process
the carnage they'd seen.
for a moment, no cat spoke, until a voice wavered up over the crowd.
"do you think it's over?"
another moment of silence followed, before another quiet mew spoke
the words everyone hoped were true.
"i do believe stonefur was the killer." breathed the real murderer, eyes
locked on the limp body that lay still near the entrance of the camp.
you've exiled your guard, riverclan! moonpaw now becomes the
medicine cat apprentice, for fear that if spiderleaf is murdered no one
will be able to take his place.
The Kill wrote:snow fell silently from the grey, clouded sky above, dying the
landscape white as rosetail walked. beside her, her companion
gave soft breath, turning into white vapor as it rose in the air.
"this is going to be a difficult leafbare..." they murmured,
and rosetail nodded.
"i hope it isn't as bad as the one we had a few years ago." the
deputy returned solemnly, her eyes narrowing in thought as
the chilled air nipped at her ears and nose, whiskers trembling.
"there was so much death... poppypool, and webkit and ashpaw
and stormpaw." there was a moment of silence. "cloverface."
rosetail's partner stopped in their tracks, their eyes clouding
over, darkening. "...yes. cloverface." the cat breathed. "my...
he." they shook their head, pain clear on their features, and
rosetail stopped, eyes softening.
"i know he was special to you. he'd only been a warrior for
two moons, and died so soon..." the cream she-cat looked
away, staring out at the frozen cat-tails protruding from the
iced-over marsh that lead into shadowclan territory.
"they said he was mauled by a badger." came the stoic, cool
reply.
"and his carcass left there, at the edge of the territory. what
an awful thing to have happened." rosetail closed her eyes,
before turning. "...i don't know who i can trust. you--you've
kept the most calm through all of this, and i." she paused.
"you have to promise that it wont lead to what happened
with stonefur."
the cat stared, confused. "...do you think it wasn't stonefur?"
"i don't know. something didn't feel right and i- i saw someone
moving around that night, a flash of something. of eyes." the
she-cat looked up, frightened. "they were light, and it was
so shadowed i couldn't quite tell what color they were exactly,
but they were filled with so much rage. blue, o-or green eyes,
with such furry and hatred i thought it was a dream but i, i don't
think that stonefur w--"
faster than rosetail could anticipate, a paw striked out, catching
her hard on the side of the head. she stumbled, dazed, trying to
recover herself as she swayed, only to have the cat leap at her,
striking again, so hard that blood welled on her tongue. dazed,
she attempted to stagger away, opening her maw to call for help,
eyes wide with horror. she had to tell someone, she had to get
back to camp and--
a chill ran up her leg as her paw splashed into water, and she had
only a moment to realize where she'd been running.
paws fell hard on her back, pushing her head down, and she broke
easily through the thin ice at the lake's edge, freezing liquid
submerging her head. she struggling, clawing at the sand and rock,
tail lashing, but the killer held her down.
"you didn't have any part in cloverface's death, rosetail. you don't
deserve this." the killer muttered under their breath as they fought
to keep her under the frigid waters. "but with you knowing what
you do, you can't be permitted to live."
rosetail struggled moment more, her cream fur growing wet, ice
forming at the edges of her neck. slowly, she stilled, body twitching
weakly as she fell limp, slumping down into the water. the killer
dumped her body in, eyes narrowed as they watched, before turning
to head back to camp.
no one could be permitted to stand in their way.
a witness and deputy is dead, riverclan! after rosetail's death,
snowstar chooses the fallen deputy's brother, hemlocktail, to
succeed her. frondpaw is given his warrior name--frond-dash.
