Murderers in Riverclan V.2 [Roster Update 10/30]

The grey tom padded slowly behind the older warrior, his ears pricked, his mind hyper-alert. He jumped slightly when Stonefur first spoke, and his hackles bristled. "I don't think anyone did it! You are all so quick to pin it on each other! What kind of disorganized group of rogues are we, to do that?" He snapped. "It doesn't matter if they are afraid or mad or anything! I'm mad! At them for blaming each other! And if you believe this nonsense about cats eating each other, then I'm mad at you too!"

She let the furious apprentice blow off some steam, watching him seethe with rage. The death of Orangepelt had clearly set off the highly strung cat. Stormfur looked terribly uncomfortable with him. He was right, all too right, they had fallen apart far too easily.

"I am sorry...friendpaw'" she replied, using his nickname in an attempt to soothe the bitter tom. "We will stick together."

Snowstar looked in horror and disgust as she saw Orangepelt.
"How could any cat.. what.. he couldn't of been eaten by fo
xes, could he?" the leader grew foul. "This was a murder." S
he concluded. "Orangepelt has been killed, right? I couldn't
imagine the precision of that neck wound was from a untam
ed beast." she eyed it curiously. "Whoever did this must've a
lso taken a bite of him." she almost felt her lunch come back
up her stomach. "Warriors of RiverClan!" she shouted. "I'd no
w like for everyone to stay in a group of two or larger. Also,
please let me know who's paired together."

"Considering we're leader and deputy, I'll partner with you, if that's alright," Rosetail says to Snowstar, dipping her head respectfully.

Aspenfur, gazing around the camp, sighed. His eyes rested on Sandsplash and he mumbled "I'll pair up with Sandsplash, if that's alright with her." He told the leader firmly. It was quite random, but he didn't hear anyone piping up to be her partner. He then added "And Spiderpaw as well. I need to keep my apprentice safe, in case anything happens to me." He gave a warm smile to his apprentice.

ＲＩＶＥＲＣＬＡＮ

the full moon hung heavy in the sky, casting pale light over the
pebblefang's heart began to sink.

when she'd been just a kit, her mother had always told her that
good things came to those who were good to others--that, if you
were kind, and fair, that if you followed the rules, you would be
blessed. her whole life, the she-cat had kept those words close
to her heart, had lived by them and had learned from them for
the whole of her life. she knew that was what the mother she'd
been so fond of would have wanted.

she should have known that fate was much more complex, much
more cruel than that. the beautiful mother pebblefang had
adored, after all, had always lived by that saying, and her own
life had been ended in agony at the paws of starvation. it was
many moons ago, a leaf-bare that had been bitterly merciless
to the clan and claimed many lives, and the day the beloved
queen had died, she had given up a meager meal to help feed
the starving young apprentices who'd been watching her eat
from the brush.

the morsel had filled two bellies, but had cost pebblefang's
mother her life.

despite all that, she'd been a fool enough to live her life by a say-
-ing that meant nothing. life was twisted, and even the kindest,
most generous cats died senseless deaths.

as votes began be cast by the miserable clan, voices low and
muted with grief, the she-cat's eyes fell upon the overturned dirt
where orangepelt's mangled body now rested. what kind of cat
would commit such a heinous crime?

"pebblefang."

snowstar's mew broke through pebblefang's thoughts, and the grey
she-cat raised her head, her eyes filling with sorrow as dread
pooled within her belly.

"the votes have been cast. riverlan has decided that you will be
exiled." there was little confidence in the words, however, and,
when pebblefang looked about, she saw that few were sure of
the decision. the flame of betrayal she'd felt for a split moment
was smothered, and she simply nodded. she knew they were just
as confused as she.

"of course, snowstar. i will leave without protest." the young
warrior glanced to her apprentice, and her eyes softened, before
she turned her head. "...please make sure that he's taken care of.
i know some of you must hate me--hate me now if it keeps you
alright. but please take care of him. he's a good kit."

snowstar's gaze faltered, her icy expression thawing faintly. "i
certainly will, pebblefang. i will guide him with my own paw."

at this, the warrior seemed relieved. she turned, and gently
touched her nose to frondpaw's forehead as he shrank back a bit,
ears flattening against his skull, before she turned, brushing
through the tunnel out into the forest without glancing back.

maybe her mother's saying was foolish, but pebblefang could
not bring herself to feel anything but love for her dear, beloved
clanmates.

starclan, please help them.
