It had been a quarter moon since the last attack, and nerves were starting to settle. Flintpaw, who had been convinced that Shadewave was the killer, had slept well for most of the week. So comfortable he'd become that someone waking him up with a rough jab only seemed partially strange. It wasn't the first time someone had shaken him awake, after all. What made it odd was the fact that the half moon glowed outside the den, the cloudless night casting camp in a brilliant glow. Drowsily, the gray apprentice blinked at the shape hovering over his nest with a confused frown. "Wha's goin' on?" He slurred, his jaws splitting in a wide yawn. A pointed glance from the other cat silenced him, concern now burrowing itself into his chest. Were they under attack? It was awfully silent to be an invasion. Rising to his paws, Flintpaw's ears pulled back as he followed the other cat out of the den. What was going on? "Where are we going?" He asked quietly, still nervous that another clan was potentially waiting just outside the reeds. The other cat didn't deign to answer him, but instead looked around camp and lowered their head. "Do you want to be a good warrior?" They asked quietly, as if letting him in on some big secret. The tall apprentice perked up immediately, understanding perfectly. They were going to sneak out and train!! His eyes glittered, lashing his tail eagerly against the cool night air. "Of course!" He chirped, catching himself a second too late to keep his voice down. Offering a small, conspiratorial smile, the other cat led him out of camp and out north.

Knowing that if anyone caught them that they'd be told to go back to their nests, Flintpaw tried his best to quell his excitement and hush his eager chatter. However, the tabby tom's excitement slowly began to dwindle as their walk grew longer and longer. Running on only half a night's sleep, Flintpaw was quickly tuckered out by the trek. "Where are we going, anyway?" He asked curiously, craning his neck to look ahead. He faintly hear the dull roar of water, and excitement once again took root in his paws. "Are we going to the falls?" He asked quickly, trying not to sound like a frightened kit. The steep cliffs could be treacherous to a cat without sure footing, but he was certain that the sight would be beautiful in the halfmoon. His question quickly received an answer when his companion halted a safe distance from the slick cliffsides. He was right! Specks of water flew up from the waterfall and caught the moonlight. "Take a closer look." The other cat offered, glancing back at Flintpaw with a challenge bright in their eyes. Emboldened by the challenge, Flintpaw hopped forward a few steps, now only a fox-length from the edge. "Like this?" He asked over his shoulder, grinning brightly at the other cat standing just off to his left. "A little closer. A good warrior should be brave enough to stand on the very edge." Slightly uncertain now, Flintpaw's smile wavered as he carefully placed one paw in front of the other. He unsheathed his claws and dug them in against the slick stone. "G-gotcha. See? I'm a great warrior, I'm brave!" A flare of pride rose in his chest as he stood almost at the very edge of the falls, forgetting every word of caution from his mentor that no one should be near the edge. "Aren't you coming over too? I thought-" He never got to finish, because the other cat had turned and kicked at him with their hind legs. With no grip on the rocks, Flintpaw skittered forward and sailed right off of the edge. A bloodcurdling shriek tried to rise into the air, but was drowned out by the persistent roar of the waterfall. The killer didn't even wait to see his body hit the water and rocks below the falls, shaking themselves and padding back across the territory.

Pansyleaf woke up, with a feeling of dread. She looked outside; it was still night but the dawn was coming soon. Everything was peaceful. So why did she feel so nervous?

Pansyleaf stretched and padded outside to the freshkill pile. She ate a small fish and groomed herself. Once finished with her morning routines, she went back into the medicine cats' den to wake up her apprentice.

"Wake up, Littlepaw," said Pansyleaf. "We've got work to do!"

Rosetail's paw twitches. She's oddly enough lying on her back, but doesn't seem to mind it. Though, granted, she's currently asleep. But not for long, as a slice of sunshine hits her right in the face. She mumbles an inaudible complaint as her eyes open to slits. Reluctantly, since there's not a way she'll be able to go back to sleep, she heaves herself out of her nest and shuffles out of the warriors' den with a yawn.
Another day in the life.

Pansyleaf snorted with laughter as she saw her apprentice's determination to remain asleep. "Fine," she said, "but you'll be on herb sorting duty today!" She went back outside, seeing that the day had truly started.

"Rosetail," Pansyleaf said, noticing the warrior, "how are you?"

The apprentice woke with a start as her mentor let out a laugh. Catching the last few words before Pansyleaf padded away, she shrugged a bit. Herb sorting wasn't that bad, really, though she would rather be spending time with her friends. She decided that she would get to the task later and stepped out of the den to find her mentor speaking with Rosetail. Littlepaw trotted up to them, smiling and mewing a good morning to both.

"Oh, there you are!" said Pansyleaf to Littlepaw. "Did you at least sleep well?"

Littlepaw glanced down at her paws in embarrassment for sleeping in. Why hadn't she woken up sooner? Usually she was an early riser, and she was quite puzzled at how she woke late. It was only the first few nights after Shadewave was exiled that she had trouble getting to sleep which caused her to wake long after the rest of the Clan. Hopefully things would go back to normal now that the murderer was gone. "Y-yeah, I did. And you?"

"I slept fine," said Pansyleaf. She wondered briefly why Littlepaw stuttered, but put it down to simple nervousness. Didn't all apprentices get nervous? She had been one not too long ago, but it seemed as though countless seasons had passed. "You should eat; no one can function well without food." She said this with a glance at Rosetail, who seemed to be in her own world. As usual. That warrior was dreamier than Starclan, it seemed.

[gallifrey falls.]

Willowpaw blinked drowsily, seeing that the camp was still dim outside the apprentice's den, but growing brighter. Dawn must be coming soon. Even though she wasn't on the dawn patrol, Willowpaw rose to her paws and shook feathers from her pelt. Getting up now wouldn't hurt, she didn't feel very tired anyway.
Glancing around the dark den, she was surprised to see Flintpaw's form missing from his nest. Where could he have gone? She touched the moss with her nose, and found it cold. He left awhile ago, then. She left the den, trying to push down her rising worry. Pansyleaf and Littlepaw were speaking over in one corner of the camp, and Willowpaw padded over to them.
"Have either of you seen Flintpaw? He isn't in his nest, and it's cold - meaning he must have left sometime last night."
