But good things, they do not last, and as much as Barkknot was enjoying herself she was still enough on edge to jump at the cry of a mockingbird. That the mockingbird had imitated an adder's harsh hiss had not helped her nerves and the tabby had spent several moments scouring the bushes for sign of the threatening serpent. But of course there was no snake to be found and the bird just laughed mockingly from above. But it had reminded her of something she needed to do. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I have to go right now. Asptail- I need to go." Barkknot kept whimpering apologies to Tanglestep as she raced away towards Soulclan territory. Stupid Asptail, why can't he carry his own messages? Stupid stupid- Her racing internal monologue stopped abruptly as a tree root shot out of nowhere and sent the she-cat flying into the air. Down, down, down the slope she tumbled; crashing through bushes and over rocks until she came to a stop sprawled head over heels in a low-lying shrub on Soulclan's side of the border. She groaned quietly, murmuring yet another, "Sorry," but was too dazed to move.

Momo snuggled ungracefully into the sandy banks; asleep but clearly not comfortable. She, like other former kittypet Salmoncress, preferred to line her nest with heaps upon heaps of puffy moss to try and make it feel like her bed back at home. The queen had been nice enough to show her all the good places to gather when she first arrived. Yes, Salmoncress had been very nice. A lot like her mother... The bobtail began to purr and inch instinctively towards the closest source of warmth as she thought of her mom. A nice, soft she-cat, and warm. Oh! Was this her? Without opening her eyes the she-cat began to snuggle close to the warm body, who was, of course, not her mother but Honeyfur.

Webwing had a good idea of why Fadedstar would be upset. Stepping over a territory line felt like a violation of privacy, it felt like committing a great err against another clan, one that you would have to make up for. It made you feel guilty. Of course, that was the reason Sorrelstar had set it up. But he couldn't exactly tell his friend, "Oh yeah well it's a system set up by my leader to passive-aggressively guilt trip other clans into 'owing' us and not attacking. So come on over!" Instead he said "I'm sure. I really can't understand you well," and gave her his best genuine smile.

Nettlefoot knew she was hearing things, but it was hard really tell with her sister laughing gleefully as she murdered some cat. But as a figure came rolling down, landing right at her paws, the dark pelted molly narrowed her eyes. A cat from the Beechclan border that wasn't Asptail, though bared a striking resemblance. What were they doing here? "Thistlethorn. We've got company." She called out to her sister who finally stopped to look over. Her dark paws were soaked red though it was hard to tell through the blackish fur. She stepped over and they both peered down at the dazed cat. "Not good... Let me think." "Hello there. You alright?" Nettlefoot asked, lacing her tone with mock concern to allow her sister a moment to think of what to do. That was Thistlethorn's specialty, thinking under tough times, while Nettlefoot was more of an intricate planning type. "Hello can you hear me?"

Oh great, there were cats above her, probably Soulclan cats. Way to go Barkknot you probably interrupted their hunting or something! This is not how to be a good messenger! The she-cat let out a little whimper despite herself. The crash had been much harder than the kind she was used to and her head was ringing and likely bleeding to boot. "I'm so sorry!" she cried again, clambering to her paws, swaying slightly as she righted herself. After a little while of blinking the world came back into focus and she could see the two she-cats in front of her clearly. They didn't seem happy. Barkknot turned her gaze upon the dirt and began to mew miserably. "I'm really, really sorry. I didn't mean to crash in and ruin your hunting or anything! I just- I tripped. I was looking for-" No, Cinderblaze could wait. Barkknot's explanation trailed off with a few more apologies.

Thistlethorn and Nettlefoot gazed at each other briefly then to the Beechclan cat. There was no other cat they knew who frequented this border other than Cinderblaze so they were possibly friends. The thought seemed to cross both their minds at the same time because a sly grin appeared on both their maw at once. "Oh no need to apologize." Nettlefoot purred kindly, allowing her tail to raise the molly's head by her chin. "We actually just arrived her after seeing you." "Perhaps you could help us solve this mystery. By any chance do you know this cat? Our Medicine cat Aspenleaf? Thistlethorn asked, stepped aside to reveal the bloody body on the ground.

Barkknot relaxed a little, so she hadn't ruined anything after all! She blinked up at Nettlefoot, grateful for the reassurance. "Apenleaf? No, Asptail might have mentioned her once? I'm sorry I don-" Her mew was cut short as Thistlethorn stepped away to reveal a splayed, mangled body. "N-n-n-n-" The she-cat stuttered, backing away from the scene, her eyes wide as she took in the horror. One of her rear paws found an unexpected dip and she stumbled, lurching and slamming down on the earth hard. Her breaths cam out raggedy; Barkknot was a warrior but she had never fought another cat, let alone killed one, and death absolutely terrified her. "W-w-w-what happened?!"

Blackpaw was glad he ignored Rockstar's order to stay in camp, there was plenty of prey to catch still without Fidgetspice going around and threatening his family. 'What is Fidgetspice's problem? He wants to kill his mate and their kits, what father would want to even think of doing that? Let alone, kill a clanmate, they do everything to keep each other alive and well!' With an angered growl at the thought of the tom, he continued on towards the hunting grounds near Lotusclan's border. Spotting a frog, he dashed after it. It hopped over the scent line, but he didn't care. He wouldn't let some bratty Lotusclan apprentice take what he fairly found! He finally pounced onto the frog, killing it with a little smirk. Looking around himself, he saw that he was definitely in Lotusclan territory. It seemed so different than Howlingclan, even though it was simply right next to their home.

"Oh poor thing must have hit her head too hard. You don't remember?" Thistlethorn asked sweetly, stepping over to Barkknot to crouch down in front of the fallen warrior. "You happened to her." "And to think we wanted to solve this without problem. But you just had the audacity to lie to our faces. Although we watched you do it." Nettlefoot sighed, shaking her head disappointed. "You murdered her in cold blood for reasons we now will never know. We watched you try and run. You fell down the slope and hit your head. How could not remember?" Nettlefoot frowned, watching as Thistlethorn lightly dragged her bloodied paw along the tabby's pelt, leaving smears all over as she circled Barkknot. "You're even covered in blood hun. Seriously. Lying to us when we could have helped you. Tsk tsk. Jaystar will not be happy."

"What?!? N-n-n-no! I-I-I would never!" She could never! Barkknot tried to put even more distance between herself and the body but with Thistlethorn circling her like a vulture she found herself with no way out. Her pelt felt suddenly very cold and very slimy, and when she twisted around to watch the she-cats accusing her she saw red smearing her pelt. Blood?! A cold dread settled in the pit of the tabby's stomach and she began to tremble uncontrollably, tucking in on herself and trying to block it all out. No, I couldn't have! I just came from being with Tanglestep, I couldn't have had time! But if I forgot- no! I wouldn't! But Tanglestep said, Tanglestep said embrace my Thoughts. What if I did? What if I killed a cat? Barkknot started purring brokenly, her eyes screwed shut and her body twitching in a full-on panic attack. No! No no no! How could I?! How could I?! "H-h-how?!"

In the back of her mind, Nettlefoot thought about just how easy this poor molly was. She almost felt bad for the poor dear. Almost. Thistlethorn stopped right in front of Barkknot and placed her paws on top of Barkknot's, lifting them in up eye level to the cowering female. In the process she was allowing the blood that coated her own paws to transfer to the other. "You say you couldn't, but the evidence is even on your paws. You can't continue to lie to use hun." Nettlefoot chuckled at her sisters innocent act before joining Barkknot on her side, pressing close to the mol,y as if to comfort her. "How you ask. With you claws silly. A better question would be why. Why did you do it?"

Barkknot couldn't look at her paws, not stained deathberry red as they were. She yanked them from Thistlethron's grasp and went right back to skewing her face into the dirt. "No. No. Nononononononono-" Suddenly the she-cat just went limp, collapsing against Nettlefoot as if all the fight had simply left her. She couldn't have done it, yet the evidence was right there. She had been seen! You certainly did it now Barkknot. You finally snapped! Poor Aspenwhatever, victim of your insanity. The next one's gonna be you~ "Shut up!" Barkknot lashed out at the taunting voice but her claws found only empty air and her thoughts. There was no enemy, there was only her. There was always only her. Choking back sobs the Beechclan warrior turned to the two she-cats who had been so calm about it all. They should be running. I'm dangerous, why don't they run? "I-i don't know why. I must have finally-finally lost it. The thoughts...What-" her voice crackled, "What happens now?"
