1X1 - Ineffable Woes and FWR

Postby anvil » Mon Feb 27, 2017 9:07 am

This is a 1x1 between FWR and Ineffable Woes.
Please DO NOT post if you're not Ineffable Woes or FWR.

Weather-based Apocalypse - Global warming has turned most of the world into a desert. Killing billions from heatstroke, hunger, dehydration, natural disasters, and anarchy. Most of the survivors live in Central Canada or around the great lakes, but the increasing temperature is going to make them relocate.

Name: Lissy Beck
Age: 23
Height: 5"2
Hair Color: Natural Red
Eye Color: Hazel
Skin Tone: Pale, Freckled

Positive Traits: Adaptable, Intelligent, Level-Headed
Negative Traits: Insensitive, Moody, Disorganised

Body Mods: Ear Piercings, Hidden Tattoos
Likes: Bathing, Nature, Hiking
Dislikes: Overheating, Cooking

About: Before the weather had completely turned for the worse, Issy (a British woman) was training to be a nurse in Canada. She had almost completed her training when the weather had caused the power systems to overheat, causing the same problem to the backup generators. It began to evaporate the water and people were dying of heat exhaustion and dehydration in all areas. It wasn't too long before Issy met a group of other survivors and her time was spent with them now, though times were becoming increasingly difficult and now they were talking of relocating, they wouldn't be able to survive much longer where they were. They had to pull together all their supplies to get moving now, to find somewhere better for them to live.

JONATHAN EDLEY
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Straight
Age: 24

Appearance:
/Hair/
Short dishwater blonde hair styled as a layer cut that doesn't look orderly.
\Face\
Azure blue eyes stare at you mid-thought and bushy eyebrows question your existence.
A roman nose lies in the middle of an average face that probably won't catch your attention.

/Body/
Jon stands at 5'9" (175 cm) and is sometimes self-conscious, so he corrects his posture and tries
to look eminent. He's reasonably fit, because he goes to the gym everyday though he doesn't do most
of the lifting (personal trainer). Crossed arms are the norm. His body language says "Do I really care about you?"

Personality:
His extroverted personality clashes with his unsettling body language. He's well-disposed,
and easygoing; real chill with surprises and mistakes. He'll reassure you that there's
good in the world. Though he does have a hard time placing people on the same level
as him, it's either lower or above. You can't do the same thing as him,
because John believes he's special. Multi-tasking is also second nature to him and
focusing on one thing is a waste of time.

History:
Raised as an only-child, that's how this whole special thing got to him.
Whenever he did something wrong, his parents didn't yell and reminded him how it's
petty and how he could go on to do great things. Well, he ended up getting taken
advantage of by taking an unpaid internship, so he juggles being that and a personal trainer
at a gym where he gets a discount.

When people started to panic, he was already up north camping alone and picked up more camping
supplies, splurging on fancy gadgets that aren't practical in a real post-apocalyptic setting,
using up all his (meagre) life savings. He ended up throwing them away as they weighed him down
when travelling.

The once fertile soil had turned into packed calcified dirt. The withered brown plant leaves weren't the only things that died from the dryness, the scent of the dead was heavy in the air. Rotted bodies in abandoned and broken homes, bullet casings and blood splatters, empty gas and water tanks, and an overall sense of hopelessness. The area still counted as mild and not as affected by global warming, formerly a cool safe place to live. I don't have to travel south to feel what it's like in a desert. Water swished around in Jonathan's canteen. His mouth was parched, it felt like he swallowed a large heated stone. Chapped lips were the least of his problems. He planned on taking a sip when he reached the next landmark. The empty shells of buildings gave the air of a ghost town. Dressed in cargo pants and a grey long-sleeve polyester shirt, he looked like someone off of The Walking Dead. Neglected signs still showed faint outline of logos.

(Tim Hortons)

The restaurant chain brought back childhood memories of eating Timbits at soccer games. When will I see another green field? The 24-year-old took refuge in the red brick establishment, sat at one of the tables and took a sip of water. Guess it's a landmark. But there's one on every corner. He chuckled and went into the kitchen to see if there was any food. He had spent every last dollar on hi-tech camping equipment and now anything he had of trade-able value was sugar packets. A treat that provided some energy too. Only 1/3 of a stale sour cream plain was found. Always fresh? He poured a bit of sugar on it and stuffed the dessert in his mouth and went back to his seat. Then rolled up his sleeves and started fanning himself with the cardboard of a donut box.

||I do apologise if this isn't up to the incredible standard you have set, I shall try my best. ^^' ||

What a world we live in. Walking over the hardened dirt and sand like dust, Lissy found herself constantly shocked by the state of things around her, hating that it had been the human races fault for destroying the most beautiful thing that they had. The woman wore a surgical mask over her mouth and nose, this was because she found the stench heart wrenching and sickening, she had seen scenes of horrific dehydration and heat exhaustion when all of this began, particularly in children and that was the reason she now wandered, looking to help others with her training, to supply them with one or two things, teach them basic first aid and how to treat any potential burns and such like injuries that were becoming common. Every building along the block she walked, were in neglected and broken forms, windows smashed, doors broken in, the once vibrant life in the colourful signs had now dulled along with people's spirits. Her eye caught a familiar name across the road.

i ortons

She crossed the street upon seeing the restaurant, perhaps they would have some things remaining in their kitchens that she could pick out to use in her travels. With quick thinking, she thought she could take advantage of the shelter and cool down awhile and sew up her shirt so she would be fully covered from the suns rays. Only her fists to protect her, she approached the building with caution, people were unpredictable, especially starving, thirsty folk. She could see a figure sitting at a seat, in an attempt to make peace with someone, she cleared her throat to make her presence known. Her clothing was simple but it kept her safe, a thick pair of khaki coloured leggings, a long dirty white shirt that had several stitched seams in different colours and a dull brown ankle length wispy looking duster. Her small form having a large hiking-style rucksack on her back as she came into the room, enjoying the shade, though the heat was still incredibly thick-feeling around them. She took a brief look around the room and back to the figure at the seat, believing it to be a man. "Iced tea would go down nicely today, don't you think?" She pulled the surgical mask down so it hung around her neck, showing her face now and she gave a faint smile.

((Thank you! Your post is lovely. Add more to the setting if you wish. Sorry, I have many Canadian/Tim Hortons references here.))

xxxxxJonathan heard the clearing of the throat, put the crude fan down and looked around for the source. So I'm having some company? Fortunately, from what he could interpret, the act didn't sound unfriendly like how he would approach co-workers who would stand in the middle of a hallway or block the water cooler with their eyes glued to their smartphones. I wish I could text my mom. Wonder where she is now...

"Iced tea would go down nicely today, don't you think?"

xxxxxHis azure eyes landed on a short woman, probably in her early twenties, wearing rugged patched clothing. She had pulled down her alien surgical mask and flashed a smile. Without studying her further for any affiliation with a gang or the chance that she was going to steal his stuff, he smirked and answered nonchalantly and started ranting about Timmies as if talking to an old friend "Unsweetened, yes. And maybe an iced capp. The only bad things about an ice capp is you can't roll up the rim and when you're almost done, you have to poke holes in the slush and it loses its coffee flavour... It's sweltering, eh? But at least it's not winter. I still wouldn't mind a double double." He sighed, reminiscing aboot about pre-apocalyptic times. The sweating man drummed his fingers on the chipped table and raised a bushy eyebrow at the redhead "Can I get a name?", finally getting to the first thing you do when you meet a stranger.

||My knowledge of Canada is very limited, so I'm actually stuck on what to add to the setting. I've been doing some research though, just to get my brain started.~ Aboot. <3||

The woman moved to sit opposite him at his chosen table, with a wrinkled nose, but a light smirk as he spoke of coffee, the one thing she had really disliked. "I have never been a fan of any sort of coffee. Even iced tea was a strange thing for me, being used to proper tea and all." Her well spoken English accent now clearer without the mask across her face to muffle her tones, she was very far from home due to the training course she had been doing. She used her coat sleeve to wipe across her forehead and over her nose before shifting to put her rucksack on the chair beside her, the physical relief of the weight made her relax with a gentle sigh. "Lissy Beck." She outstretched her right hand as an offer to shake, a polite greeting she was used to. "What can I call you?"

((Cool. Canadians don't actually say "aboot", though. I was thinking it was in Owen Sound, near Lake Huron which could look something like this after the heat.))

The woman sat opposite him and then politely expressed her dislike for coffee and other beverages that strayed from "proper" tea before introducing herself as Lissy Beck. Don't judge me for putting four creams and four sugars in my coffee, if you put milk and sugar in your TEA. Lissy's British accent was as clear as day to the Canadian. She must miss home. Isn't it always raining in London? Jonathan pushed those thoughts aside and introduced himself, mocking her British background "Jon. Jonathan Edly, m'lady." and shook her hand. He thought she was going to retract it, because she was wearing a surgical mask and she might be avoiding disease. Medicine was hard to come by nowadays. "What are you doing here if you're not drinking coffee?" he joked.

||I know, it's a stereotype~ Barbara Dunkelman is my fave Canadian. Ooh, okay, I like the sound of that!||

She took a moment to look over the man before her, taking in his dirty clothing, as much as her own was. Something that was not unfamiliar with these times, even bathing was a rarity for the sake of conserving what water was left around them, that for her was one of the bigger personal issues. She hated being unclean, but there was little choice. A grin crossed her lips as he imitated her accent, she shook his hand firmly. "You do the accent better than some British people I've known." She leaned back comfortably in the chair, her feet pleased for the peace. "I needed the rest, and I've got some repairs to do on my coat. What better place to relax and recuperate than Tim Hortons?"

((Writer's Block. These are getting shorter and shorter.))

xxxxxLissy looked over Jon which made him suddenly feel self-conscious and straightened his back. Is she checking me out? She had a nice firm handshake like a strong independent woman. Nevermind. He accepted the compliment "Thank you." and crossed his arms and looked at the menu "Well, I was wondering why a beautiful British woman was walking around in Owen Sound. I didn't recall Canada being a British colony again." and kept his eyes there, not wanting to see her reaction. "I'd better go." The man stood up and picked up his heavy pack and sarcastically thought. Great way to spend my time during an apocalypse. Sitting at Tim Hortons, talking to a woman... I'll find another Tim Hortons.
