Birch paused before nodding his head, relieved that Mammoth wasn't being aggressive towards him. Although he was kind to Odette, he wasn't sure how the clan cat would react to him suddenly dropping down from a tree. He was prepared to answer any questions the sharpclaw had for him, although he suspected that Odette would pipe up and answer before he got the chance to.

When Odette head the sound of branches cracking and leaves crashing together, she quickly turned around to find that Birch laying on the forest floor in a crumpled position. Before she could move to help him, Birch had already picked himself up, and was facing Mammoth as if ready for a scolding. "Oh, goodness. Are you alright Birch?" She cried, her worried voice joining Mammoth's.

Birch nodded again, turning to face Odette as he did it. He figured that Odette would probably be with him for a while, at least until he was 'old enough' to take care of himself. Birch didn't know if this was a good thing or a bad thing, but he supposed it was fine.

The soft black tom turned towards Clearpaw, noticing the frightened look she had. He bristled his fur, padding (stomping) up to the loner. "I will warn you once. Get off of our territory before I make you."

The fluffy brown tabby tom quietly sighed in relief. "Alright, I should be on my way now. Have a nice day!" Mammoth turned around, to head back to his camp.

"She sure is." The sleek black tom chuckled, flicking his ear. He decided to stay quiet, after he had responded.

⇨ She gazed down at her prize, unable to hold back a smile of satisfaction. She licked her lips before rising to her paws and giving her coat a shake. Her normally smooth fur was now ruffled, and she quickly ran her tongue over the mess. A scent caught her attention, however, and her head shot up with alertness. For a moment she had forgotten where she was, and stiffened as the scent of feline tingled her nose and mouth. Summer noticed the two clan cats approaching, and tried not to shrink back, but to stand boldly and unafraid. They seemed young like her, which felt somewhat reassuring, but she could never fight off the two of them. The darker one came right up to her, and her ears flattened. "Don't take my shrew, it's mine!" She said, stepping over her fresh-kill defensively. She swiped at the air to get him to step back, the fur between her shoulders fluffed up. "I'm going..."She slowly backed up, grabbing the shrew while keeping a cautious eye on the other two.

The soft black tom was about to retort about the shrew comment, but decided against it, seeing as the loner was already backing up. "We should probably head back, Clearpaw." I'll chase her off instead of giving her a warning next time.

Clearpaw's fear dissipated as she studied the loner's ginger fur, and that wild and determined look that shone brightly in her eyes. She was impressive and intimidating at the same time, yet she also seemed uncertain or perhaps, afraid. "We won't hurt you." She said soothingly, shooting a disapproving look at Duskpaw as he stalked towards the loner, getting in her personal space. "We just want to know why you've been hunting in our territory." She explained, glancing briefly at the shrew beneath her. She ignored Duskpaw as he motioned for them to leave, taking a step closer towards the ginger she-cat. "Maybe there is some way that we can help you." She offered kindly.

Odette watched the clan cat with an impassive look as he walked to the border, and back towards his home. She didn't catch his name so she waved him good-bye with her tail instead. "Farewell." She called after him, waiting until he disappeared from sight before turning back towards Birch. "Now why did you get scared and jump the tree like that?" She asked him, her tone playful. She was more amused by Birch's actions than upset. "That was very impolite of you. Are you afraid of clan cats, or something?"

Birch looked away and shrugged, blushing slightly. He wasn't exactly scared of clan cats, he was just extremely wary of them. He didn't have a bad past with any clan cats either, in fact, in most of his encounters with them, they didn't really care about his existence, or in cases like Mammoth's, they were actually quite nice.

When Birch turned away, embarrassed, Odette chuckled, feeling slightly bad for mocking him. "Oh come on, I was only teasing." She said, moving to sit by his side. "There's really nothing to be scared of though. Trust me, their bark is far worse than their bite." She told him reassuringly. "And, who knows, one day when you're older, you might even want to join one of the clans, just to find out what all the fuss is about."

⇨ She stopped moving and looked at the lighter feline, tilting her head curiously as the tone changed. It made her feel a little comfortable in the situation, but she still kept her guard up. The she-cat's question puzzled her in a way, "I saw the shrew just sitting there, and I'm hungry..." She explained, tensing up as the female stepped forward. Help? She thought, wondering why these clan cats wanted to help her. They usually chase off outsiders, not help them, so what makes her any different? Summer wasn't aware that she needed help either. She had been pretty confident that she was living well, but the cats made her think otherwise.
