"Oh, okay." Russetpaw shrugged indifferently; he wasn't one to get offended too easily and if they didn't want to disclose any information, it was fine with him. "Anyways, what's the surrounding territory like? Then maybe I'd know which direction Asterclan is."

Sootpelt froze as Finchtuft spoke to him again, putting all his effort into not weeping with relief. The dark tabby turned back to gaze at the younger medicine cat, gratefulness flickering in his blue eyes. Sootpelt nodded slowly before finally padding away. He sat near the edge of the herb-scented crowd and watched the other cats with mild interest. His heart still ached from hearing about Rippleberry's death, but at least their kits were okay. Perhaps he would see his mate while sharing tongues with StarClan— if StarClan hadn't rejected her for breaking the code. Sootpelt stared down at his paws, fervently hoping that he would be able to speak with his mate once more.

Speckledpaw watched in confusion as his mentor padded off briskly. The apprentice trailed behind, observing Sootpelt's entire exchange with the other medicine cat. He wasn't able to hear much, beside snatches of words and phrases, such as "mate'', "kits", and "sunrise". The young tom's eyes grew wider with each moment, and the atmosphere was thick with emotion. Something was happening with his mentor, but he couldn't be sure what. Speckledpaw slipped back into the crowd and Sootpelt padded swiftly away and the other tabby began talking with a different medicine cat. He strolled to the edge of the congregation, his pale eyes sweeping over the faces of all the different medicine cats and apprentices. Speckledpaw couldn't help but notice a young she-cat gazing anxiously at her paws. "Excuse me," he meowed softly, putting aside his thoughts about Cricketleap and gently approaching the other apprentice. "Are you alright?" He asked cautiously, a trace of concern in his blue-green eyes.

"There's trees in one direction, a river in another, and from what we've seen, just grassland in the other two," Talonstar replies. They've only scouted a little bit in their territory; that's why he wanted to go out to mark their borders.

Morningpaw suddenly saw a small brown shecat pad over to the moonpool, and she perked up her ears in interest. Slipping away from her mentor, she scampered over to her with her tail held high. "Good evening.." She mewed, giving her a sheepish grin. She suddenly noticed that another cat had already approached her, but she wasn't backing down now. She sped up to flank the new cat, smiling gently at them. "Erm.. Hello? Am I interrupting?"

Honeyfur watched Morningpaw walk away wistfully, but kept her face straight and her posture rigid. She watched the tensions with calm eyes, feeling a spark of cheer that she wasn't involved in their silly quarrel.

"Oh," he mewed quietly. "I hope Pigeonpaw recovers well. And I'm sorry that LeafClan didn't come to your aid - I had no idea that there was a battle...." he admitted a bit shamefully. To Shadepaw he mewed, "It's nice to meet you!"

"Oh, I'm doing fine," Willowcloud meowed. She then hesitated a moment before saying quietly, "I heard there was a battle - thank goodness LeafClan wasn't involved. From what the others are saying, it must have been terrible. How is your Clan faring?"

"That's good. Thank StarClan our Clans are allies. I think Emberstar might be more lenient because of that, now that I think about it," he said with a smile. Suddenly he remembered the hunting patrol, and frantically started to say his farewell to Sheepclaw so that they wouldn't get even more suspicious. "I have to go," he meowed sadly. "It would probably be best if I don't sneak out to see you again for a little while just until things calm down with Webfang." He knew she would understand, he just hoped that it wouldn't be long before he could see her again. "Goodbye, Sheepclaw. I'll miss you." He licked her cheek before hurrying off after the patrol.

The 16 moon old shecat lifted her head, blinking at the two apprentices. "Oh..! Um, hi.." she mewed nervously. "I'm.. ok. Just rattled, is all." Smoothpaw glanced at her paws again. It was weird to be here with all the other cats. Sure, she had been to two Gatherings, but Webwing had been there for her to talk to. And Dawnglow and Rabbitwish in case anything went wrong. Here... she was alone for what felt like the first time.

"Hi," Speckledpaw greeted Morningpaw as she padded over to him and Smoothpaw. "I've been to a Gathering before, but this is my first one with only medicine cats. I'm really excited to share tongues with StarClan," he mewed, casting an eager glance towards the moonpool. "So who are your mentors?" Speckledpaw asked the two apprentices, his eyes sweeping over the crowd of medicine cats.

"I understand," Sheepclaw mewed sadly, "I'll miss you too, Ashenclaw," she licked the deputy's cheek in return and watched him leave before deciding it best for her to return to camp as well.

The young apprentice grew hopeful when he saw the first familiar maple tree appear in his vision and after walking for a few more minutes, found himself back in Asterclan territory. "I couldn't thank you enough! It's been a pleasure meeting you two, but I'm sure my clan-mates have missed me, until the next time we meet!"
