fights by the courthouse? wow! i'm surprised i haven't seen this reported on kotaku or similar - usually they're pretty good at snapping up gaming-related news, and a fnaf lawsuit would definitely be on their radar. my sympathies go with the poor security guards having to deal with that!

i'll keep my eyes open for writeups about it, too. all i can find is stuff about scott filing a lawsuit in 2015 to expose a fake fnaf4 that got put on apple's app store ( http://toucharcade.com/2015/05/09/scott ... 4-creator/ ). it's very strange that i can't find any of this being reported online, i would have thought news networks would be all over it - especially with fistfights at the courthouse!

My town is pretty small, not a lot of stuff that happens here gets out to the rest of the world. But basically, Scott found out that some guy bought out a Chuck E. Cheese's in order to open up a restaurant based off Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. At first people thought it was a practical joke, a movie set, or something Scott himself had something to do with. About a week after the newspaper article that said the place had been bought out was published, they published a new article saying Scott's legal team was threatening to sue the company that tried to open the Freddy Fazbear's Pizza restaurant. At first they decided to stop production in order to stave off the suit, but Scott must have been really pissed, since they finally did get a suit filed, originally they threatened to sue for a 1/4 of a million, now they've sued for an entire million from what I've heard. I try to stay out of these kind of things, because legal jargen isn't my strong suit, but I do know that the company was in violation of copyright infringement laws, and that's what matters.

holy, that's nuts. I can't blame Scott for chasing that lawsuit - I'd be pissed if someone used my characters/stories for something without permission. not sure why the company ever thought that would be a good idea.

It wasn't, it never is. The only thing people ever think about these days is "How can I make the most money, with the least amount of effort?" and the answer to that question, most of the time is "Steal"

even a small town would find itself of interest to reporters with big companies rolling through like this - as the suit is probably not only from scott, but from those with vested interests in keeping the fnaf name (those already licensed to use it, such as the movie studio making the fnaf movie). it's very surprising that it hasn't made it to kotaku or the like since they've reported worldwide on so many things. maybe i'll keep an eye out in the legal journals and other published jurisprudence data.

Ok, now I'm REALLY pissed, turns out, all this was just some dumb*** trying to steal Scott's identity in order to make a quick buck! The guy's name is Scott Cawthon, but he's not the Scott Cawthon. I can't believe I fell for such bullcrap. The guy pulled a scam on the company, who was forced to shut down their production because a guy who has no legal ties to FNAF thought he could get away with identity theft. That's the reason it hasn't been reported, it's got nothing to do with the real Scott, so nobody wants him to look like something bad happened to him. Now I don't feel so bad about the Village Council refusing to let the media into the courthouse, but it would have been nice to know that from the start

interesting! i'm sure it's only a matter of time then before kotaku and the like report on the story - this just makes it more juicy and more of interest to their readers. i expect more general news media to follow suit; only some people play games, but a story of identity theft may be near-universal. i will eagerly keep tabs on the media to read the stories about it in the next few days. definitely something to look forward to, as this story has taken so many twists and turns that it sounds a bit like bad fiction made up on the fly.
