TYPE OF QUESTION:Math
YOUR QUESTION:How do I divide a 2-digit number by another 2-digit number? E.g 56 / 36
this is how it was taught to me, I hope you can make sense of it
first you count how many times the second number fits into the first number, and you subtract them
36 only fits into 56
once, so you keep that 1 for your answer and subtract 56-36=20
since 36 doesn't fit into 20, the rest of your answer won't be whole numbers, and instead it will be 1.[something]
to find that "something", you add another 0 to 20 and count how many times 36 fits into that.
36 fits into 200
5 times, 5 x 36=180, 200-180= 20
you add 5 to your answer, so now you have 1.5
since you notice that you got 20 for the second time, you could do the above calculations again, but you'll end up with the same answer again (5 x 36=180, 200-180= 20), which means you could write an infinite amount of 5 to your answer (1.555555555555.....)
but since that's inconvenient to write down all the time, we usually pick how long we want the answer to be, and round up or down the answer accordingly.
so from 1.55555555..... you would get ~1.556
so for the process itself, if you have a problem like A/B=?
1.
count how many times B fits into A, write down answer in whole numbers, the rest of the answer will be behind a period/whatever you guys call it
2.
multiply B with the amount of times it fits into A and subtract A - (the number you just got)
3. add a zero at the end of your new number and repeat steps 1-3 until you end up with 0 at some point, or if the numbers start repeating themselves.
