I don't have anything like that happen to me, simply because my dog is old. Old, old, old. 15, going on 16 soon.
It may be because of the dog breed, if it's a mastiff/bulldog kind of breed, some people will be naturally afraid because of the bulldog's reputation of being used in dog fighting
Basically what the above said
I love my b <3

I try to never ever judge when it comes to kids, but he was pretty rude about it. I always ask parents before letting kids pet JJ or Pete and all that. In California people typically don't judge by breed, so it's not something I'm used to. I am going to look at muzzles next chance I get though, just for when we take her to the vet and stuff they won't charge us extra to muzzle her. She doesn't bite (as far as I know, I can touch her paws and clean her teeth and she doesn't), but it's a good thing to have.

this actual brings up a really good point that I have been thinking about for a while. my dog Penny is a small, papillon mix. whenever we take her out for a walk, people automatically go up to her and try to pet her without asking permission. they assume that just because she looks cute and friendly, that she likes to be around people. truth it, she is super anxious and hates when people sporadically come up to her. she hasn't bitten anyone but she does growl when she's had enough. then the people look to me as if I've done something wrong. don't assume a dog is just friendly or aggressive by their looks. always ask the owner if their dog is comfortable around others.

Harness labels are also a good tool to keep people from approaching...
Since I've gotten Geyser different harness labels that read "do not pet" and "in training" people often stay away. And if they do approach and ask to pet your dog, don't be afraid to refuse people. It's more important to worry about a person's safety and your dog's safety than to worry about hurting someone's feelings. Really. I've flat out refused people when they asked to pet Geyser, and I feel like such an awful person, but it's saved him from a lot of stress and anxiety that COULD possibly channel into a bite situation.
So yeah! I highly recommend getting a harness that can have removable labels and such. Really good tool for keeping people at bay.

Boop boop, gonna slide on in this chat
I own two doggos, a 15 year old Pekingese(Queen Vashti) and a 5 month old pit puppy(Spade).
I actually purchased Vashti from someone who used to play CS, some posts have been made about her in the other Dog Chat. And I got Spade from an accidental litter, I would love to have some papers on her, she's from my favorite APBT bloodlines, but y'know accidental litter so...
Pics:

It was hard getting Spade just a few months after having Vashti, not only because she's a puppy but because Vashti is very dog aggressive. Through trial and error I've learned that she's only aggressive with grown dogs, so I'm hoping introducing Spade as a puppy will curb any aggression Vashti might start feeling when she gets bigger and older. Spade got snapped at a few times, but now she definitely knows that Vashti is the Queen and that she's older, sometimes she just wants to be left alone...most of the time actually lol

How do you train your dog not to lick people? When our neighbors and friends come over he always licks them a bunch. I use positive reinforcement and I know that licking is natural for dogs. Our friends just get pretty annoyed. They want to pet him and everything but he just licks a bunch. Can I add a cue word to it?
