"great! any specific recipe you like?" he asked, after he had gotten everything out. he popped one blueberry into his mouth after he washed them, and offered her one.

brook took a blueberry from the packet. "well i'm fine with any recipe. i mean, an easy one would be better since i don#t actually know how to cook properly." she confessed. laughing a little at herself.

"sounds good." he nodded, taking out a blueberry pancake recipe. "i usually make it when my nephew is in town." he told her, putting it down onto the counter.

brook looked at the recipe for a brief moment. "oh you've got siblings? that's cool, i always wanted a sibling, but my parents only had me."

harper nodded. "she's nine years older than me, though. once our parents passed away, she kind of took over." he explained, putting the flour into the bowl.

brook felt bad that she bought up the topic of his parents. she had guessed it was a sensitive topic for him to talk about so she never mentioned anything of it again. the fact he bought it up on his own surprised her, perhaps he wasn't as sensitive about it as she thought. "that's quite a big age gap." she commented. "i suppose it's good though, since she could act as your parent figure." brooklyn started to wash the blueberries, to make sure they were okay to use. she wanted to help with the actual pancakes, but she feared that she'd mess it up.

"yeah. i never did really understand why. maybe they only wanted one child for a while, but then they missed raising a toddler? not sure." he told her. the topic of his parents was numb to him after having to talk and hear about them for so long. quite a strange way they passed, if you asked him.

"hey, if you don't mind me asking, why do you talk about your parents so freely? doesn't it sadden you?" she didn't mean it in a rude way, although it may have sounded like that. brook was just curious.

harper turned, and smiled at her. as if he expected the question. "quite an odd way my parents died, so after having to explain it so many times, it just turned numb. sometimes if I have to go back to the crime scene, or explain it in detail, it gets to me." he explained, finishing off the dough. he turned on the stove, and waited for it to heat.

brooklyn nodded, as she listened. "that makes sense."she watched as he turned the stove on. "can we get icecreams on the beach?
