@Munch : >//< Thank you so much!
Yesss, right! I see her as a pretty laid-back and chill person. Her personality is still a big WIP though.

✧✧ [005] "What do you mean, NO?!"

Postby 200765 » Thu Jan 26, 2017 1:22 pm

The apartment was quiet save for the clacking of laptop keys and the scratching of pencil on paper. Tyler, who had been writing for the past hour, leaned back in his seat and pulled his arms high over his head, letting out a sigh as he did so. He looked out the window into the warm afternoon glow before heading into the kitchen to get something to eat.

    "Do you want anything, Michelle?"

"Mmm... A glass of water and a few cookies, please," Michelle replied.

Shuffling was heard in the kitchen before Tyler appeared, carrying two glasses of water and a plate of white chocolate macadamia nut cookies—Tyler's favorite cookies to make. Yeah, he baked, so what? His friends loved the baked goods he made. Michelle certainly enjoyed them.

After placing down the snack, Tyler went over to a drawer and looked through a few sheets of paper before pulling out two tickets.

Michelle looked up as Tyler sat down in a chair. "These cookies are delicious as usual," she said, smiling at her best friend.

Tyler grinned in return, heart beating faster at her smile. He slid the tickets in his hand across the table, watching Michelle's reaction as she picked them up and read what was on them. "I was wondering if you'd like to go to the fair with me this weekend. I heard they have some new stalls and attractions, my co-workers really enjoyed going there."

"That sounds nice," Michelle said. She flipped through her planner to the weekend and frowned slightly. "I'm going in to work on Saturday. And after church on Sunday, I have a date with Chase. I wish I could go, Tyler, but I'll have to pass."

At her rejection and the mention of Chase, something snapped withing Tyler. The memory of Chase's call a few nights ago didn't help either. "A DATE?!"

    Michelle flinched at Tyler's outburst.

Now that he had started talking, the words seem to tumble out of Tyler's mouth. He couldn't control what he wanted to say; there was no filter to stop him. "It's always Chase this, Chase that. What's so good about him anyways?! Was he there for you when Bryan broke up with you? He wasn't the one who took a few days off from work to comfort you. Did he pull three all-nighters to help you finish your project when your computer crashed and you had to restart everything? NO, HE WASN'T THERE FOR YOU!" Tyler's voice quieted, a sad look appeared in his eyes. "We used to be so close. Best friends. But he had to come. Is that how it is?! A handsome guy good at flirting appears and you fall in love with him, leaving your friend behind?!" We could have been more.

The room was silent again, tension palpable. Tyler breathed heavily and clenched his fists before spinning on his heel and stalking to the door—anger and frustration evident by his tight form.

Michelle could only stare after him, mouth open with shock, eyes slightly watery. Who was this person? She didn't recognize him. Had she been so caught up in her happy relationship that she didn't notice that Tyler felt abandoned?

As Tyler bent to put on his shoes, the movement snapped Michelle out of the trance she had been in. "Tyler!" she shouted, getting up from the table, knocking over a glass of water in her haste to get to the door. "Don't go!"

He cast a dark and bitter look over his shoulder, freezing Michelle in her tracks. "It's obvious that I'm not wanted here."

He opened the door, stepped out. He slammed it shut.

A bubble rose in Michelle's throat, nose stinging as tears started to stream down her face. She hadn't cried, not like this, for months.

    ✧✧•✧✧

She had cried for over fifteen minutes, eyes red and puffy, nose runny with snot. Hiccuping, Michelle picked up her cell phone with shaky hands. She found the name 'Chase' in her contacts and pressed the green call button.

He picked up on the fourth ring. "Hey Michelle."

    "Chase?" Michelle hiccuped and sniffed.

"Have you been crying?" Chase could immediately tell that something was wrong. "Where's Tyler?"

Michelle laughed humorlessly. "He's upset, so he left."

Enraged that his girlfriend's best friend made her cry, he gripped the phone tightly in his hand. "Some best friend," he scoffed. "Do you know where he went? I think I need to go beat someone up."

    "NO! Don't!"

    "What do you mean, NO?!"

"I-I just... Can we cancel our date on Sunday?"

A heavy sigh came from Chase. "I understand. He's a very important person to you."

    "Thank you, Chase."

Michelle hung up the phone, feeling much better. Tying up her shoelaces, she left the apartment. She had someone to find, and was sure she knew where he would be.

    ✧✧•✧✧

Tyler felt miserable. He had made Michelle cry, something he hadn't seen in a long while. The rough bark of a weeping willow dug into his back and he shifted around uncomfortably.

    "Tyler."

He knew that voice very well. A shadow fell over his face and he looked up, an expression of apprehension flashing across his face.

Michelle smiled softly before sitting down next to him.

    "I'm sorr–"

"Don't. I get what you mean. We haven't hung out in a while." Michelle shifted to look at Tyler, taking in his puffy eyelids—he had been crying too.

"Let's go to the fair on Sunday, all right?"

✧✧ Apologies for the delay! This week has been busy with semester exams and projects (thank goodness they're over) and I didn't have the inspiration to get this prompt typed out. Hopefully I can get a few more up in the next week or so.

How do you feel about the ending? Happy that Michelle decided to go to the fair with Tyler?

Ahhhh these guys again. I knew this one was gonna pull at my heartstrings somehow lmao
I'm...kinda surprised at how my feelings are changing towards Tyler. I would have expected myself to root for him, but now I don't know. He's going through some tough times but I don't really have a lot of sympathy towards anyone who tries to interfere with relationships? OH JEEZ WHY YOU GOTTA MAKE ME HAVE THESE INTERNAL CONFLICTS
Your writing is so good, I am in awe

@Munch : YESS! Really happy that you liked it. <3 There's definitely more about Michelle, Tyler, and Chase in the future!

@Pyjaks : After the lighthearted shot about the children's field trip, I was in the mood to write something sad.
Yes, yes, have lots of internal conflict about Tyler and Chase and Michelle. That was my plan all along. >:)
THANK YOU!! •//•

Go Tyler!! Yay!! :D

I'm not really a ship-y kinda person, so (for now...) as long as both boys have a fair chance I'm satisfied XD
