you may have heard, but the switch has paid online which may backfire if their target audience is kids. most kids, or really anyone not old enough to have a job, wont be able to play online, which leads to them not playing the console, which means they wont buy games for it as much. thats how i see it at least.

The thing I dislike the most about switch is paying online. Now don't get me wrong I do get paid and stuff, but I already have a PS+ so.. it's the matter of cancelling ps+ or somthing else I'm paying for to buy the Nintendo live.. but I don't think I'll even bother with the switch at this point in time as I'm quite content with the Wii U and games I have for it.

y'all i feel like this is the end. i get that nintendo's trying to get back into the console wars, but i feel like everything's gone downhill since the wii u. the wii u already was sorta a flop, now the switch just seems worse. paid online services? who's gonna bother doing that? having botw as the launch game? not gonna sell very well. not to mention, with the game itself and the console, something like that ends up more than $300, so good luck to everyone trying to get the money for that.

i honestly feel like nintendo's just going down more and more lately. i feel like this may be their last console, or they'll have one more after this and that's the end.

As much as I hate to admit it, you're probably right. I was hardly considering The Switch, but paid online services. Nope. Not happening.

Nintendo has made enough good games anyway, and I don't mind if they have to close up eventually, even if it saddens me.

Though, I kinda disagree about the Wii U. It isn't great, but it was a decent console IMO. SSB4, Super Mario 3D World and Super Mario Maker were pretty good.

I think I have to disagree on this. Will paid online services hinder sales? Maybe, but you have to look at what other companies are doing. The Xbox and Playstation have been doing paid online fees and people are still willing to go out and pay for it. And if we're being entirely honest, I think the Switch has better appeal than the Wii U. I had no appeal to the Wii U until Smash came out, meaning I waited over 2 years to get one, but the Switch has titles so far that I think will draw people in. Now I can't say it won't be a flop, but I think this actually is a better idea than the Wii U ever was. As I've been telling people the biggest thing Nintendo has to do is put out big titles for each of their big franchises to make people want to buy this. They need a LoZ game, they need Mario, they need Pokemon, and they need to make the games fresh and new. A big thing is, they gotta bring Smash to it too and as soon as possible. A huge reason many people ended up buying a Wii U was because of Smash Bros. I know this because I know so many people that only bought one for Smash. Much like what they're doing with Mario Kart 8, I think could be done with Smash Bros as well meaning people would have to upgrade.

Now as for the price, honestly, that's what systems cost these days. On release dates, I know other systems cost more than that so I don't see the big deal with that.

Maybe I'm more of an optimist, but I don't see this as the end. I actually think Nintendo learned from its mistakes with the Wii U and are moving in a good direction. Now that might just be me, but it's only fair to see how it plays out. Breath of the Wild seems like a nice launch title for the system since Zelda is one of Nintendo's longest franchises next to Mario. But as I said, I feel like the Switch might actually fair better than the Wii U

They've got a point ° ͜ʖ ͡°. Even though nobody likes paying for online services, we all pay for them. If we didn't, you wouldn't be able to be on here because your internet provider would pull the plug on you. The best things in life aren't always free, most of the time, they never are. Pokemon Bank was free for a short while, but I knew it would eventually be a paid thing before they even announced that you needed a sub

Depending on how much the paid service is... I'll probably consider getting it. If it's more than I wanna pay then I won't. I've lived this long without getting into the playing with others across the world.

alright i see where you're coming from (oops late reply) and i guess this did sorta bring new points up for me. probably the only reason i seemed so negative about it is because that seems to be the only things people are talking about. ever since the presentation i guess people just mostly talked about the cons of it and ehh, i just had to sorta agree. i'm honestly in the middle right now, i don't know what to think about it. half of my opinion on it is negative, thinking it might flop, the other thinks it might actually be pretty good but eh who knows. guess we'll all just have to wait. but yeah, you did bring up a good argument, so props to you

Jumping in here because I wanted the switch to be good so badly.

But right now my hopes are super low. The controller is janky, and a proper(read: switch pro controller) costs an extra EIGHTY dollars until the lower quality 3rd party rip offs come out. Even another janky(read: Joy-Con) controller costs 50$. For me and my two siblings to play together, we'd have to shell out an extra 100$ just for meh controls, or 240$ for good ones. Combined with the 300$(read: cost of a Wii U at launch) base price tag and the additional cost of online play, I don't see it meshing well with the largely child target audience.

The portability is a lost feature on most, I think. It's battery life is too short to be that useful, the portable component is too large to carry around or store away easily, and I've never seen someone older than 15(sadly) use a device larger than a DS in public.

The line-up of games paired with the way better marketing gives the switch a headstart over the Wii U, but I'm expecting something between modest success and total flop.

Then again, all they had to say was "Fire Emblem" to make me consider buying the damn thing, so maybe it'll work out.

Then again, I only have the money for one of a PS4 or the switch, tops, and I'm leaning PS4, so maybe not.
