Ravenwing gave a small smile and retreated deep into her stores, way back to a part that is rarely entered. She carefully lifted a large leaf wrap from one of the hollows with only the tips of her teeth, careful to keep her tongue from even touching the contents. She returned to Sweetpaw and set the wrap down in front of her. She lapped up some water from the small pool by them to cleanse her mouth and faced her apprentice with a strange glint in her eye. Using only the point of her claw, she unwrapped the bundle to reveal several small, bright red berries clustered together. "Looks harmless, yes?" She leaned forward. "Very appealing to a hungry cat who hasn't seen a mouse in days." She tilted her head. "They have several names. Night Seeds, Yew Berries..." she trailed off, but then stared at Sweetkit with great intensity. "The most common name among cats is Deathberries. How do they get their name? These berries are extremely toxic, the most poisonous thing known to cat. If consumed, they can kill a cat in a matter of minutes." Ravenwing backed off her intensity and continued in a more understanding tone. "I need you to understand that these berries are not the kind suitable for pranks. These are only ever used in extreme circumstances. If you ever see a cat eating or even messing with Deathberries in the forest, please get them into my care at once. It was Tempeststar and Twistedstar's wishes that I teach you about these at once. Recognize the name, the smell, the look, but do not touch. You might need this information in the future."

Flashfire eyed Oddeyes suspiciously when he stood. He's supposed to be serving a vigil, ceremoniously supposed to be seated, as the black and white warrior recalled. Something was off about the new warrior, and he was determined to find out just exactly what he was up to. He casually padded in front of the warrior, giving him a stiff nod and a gruff and unfeeling "Oddeyes," greeting as he passed. His amber eyes surveyed the heterochromia inflicted cat with harsh judgement. He continued on his way just as casually as he had come, heading to the fresh kill pile as if it were his destination all along.

Oddeyes shook himself, trying to snap out of it. But his paws thought different. He started moving forward, slowly exiting the camp. Flashfire warned me and I'm still leaving. He thought, but it didn't stop him.

Ravenwing smiled lightly. "It is used in extreme cases. If a cat is suffering in so much pain and is deemed incurable, it is up to the medicine cat to decide whether they continue suffering, or feed them Deathberries. I've only ever had to feed these to one cat in my entire life." Ravenwing remembered poor Icepaw. The pretty white apprentice had caught a horribly deadly sickness from a twoleg thing and moaned day and night until Ravenwing fed her the berries, sending her peacefully up to Star- well, wherever the spirits go now. And it was the hardest decision she ever had to make, but she hoped Icepaw forgave her for that. "We hide these in the very back of the store on an elevated hollow, chosen specifically to keep any unwanted cats or kits from touching them."
