Nikita flashed the other tom a confident grin before crouching so low to the ground that his chest brushed against the grass and weeds. Though he made slow progress, Nikita managed to curve past the hare without too much noise. Now he patiently edged towards the brook, silently stepping in the icy water without a single complaint. In a few short moments, he crossed the water and was already on the other side of the stream. Nikita positioned himself so that the hare was directly between him and Flare before leaping across the stream in a single bound, landing nosily on the other side. Alarmed, the rabbit turned and ran right towards Flare's hiding spot.

Flare watched, ready for the rabbit when it was sent his way. He waited until it was practically in his paws before doing anything, lashing out as if to catch it. It didn't have the intended effect, but it did stun the hare so that Flare could pounce without much resistance from it. His pounce was sloppy, but it did the job. Not long after, the rabbit was dead. Pleased with their success, the russet tom lifted his head to locate Nikita, pride shining in his eyes.

Nikita watched as Flare finished the kill. The ginger tom's pounce was somewhat off and his movements were slightly careless. But then again, Flare was a seasoned fisher and spent most of his time near the water rather than in the forest. Nikita quickly cut through the grass, grinning cheerfully. "Great work!" He praised him while he looked over their catch. "That's a fine rabbit, the clan will surely be impressed."

Flare nodded in agreement. "I don't think I would've been able to catch this alone," he meowed. "Do you think we should continue hunting, or head back?" he asked. He would be fine with either, but he didn't want to stay or go if Nikita preferred not to.

"okay, we can practice the standard moves then." lily mumbled, feeling a bit embarrassed herself about bringing up the topic. it would be nice to improve her skills before she became a full sharpclaw, that way there'd be no way she'd be held back as a to-be.
the only way she would get held back was if her hunting wasn't good, but she was quite sure that she was able to hunt proficiently enough to become a sharpclaw. both her hunting and fighting skills would be fined tuned and ready when she got the responsibilities of a full sharpclaw.

Heron felt that perhaps he had disappointed her somehow in some way, but he didn't want to ask and be all awkward. "Alright, so anything you might be having particular trouble on?" he asked cautiously, a bit unsure of himself. "Nothing to hard though, I might not be able to keep up with your talent," he teased with a grin, finding a bit of confidence.
He could perform all the moves he'd been taught at least decently and effectively, but some he was better at than others. "If the moves we're practicing are too boring or easy, we could work on adding on something special if you want. A twist here, a swipe there... just so the moves aren't so predictable, ya know?"

"Ahhh don't say that I'm sure you could! You seem like a quick fellow." Nikita chuckled softly. "I'm not entirely certain. This rabbit could definitely stand alone, but maybe we could at least try and bring something else back." He shrugged, and began to scan the clearing for any more signs of prey. His gaze wandered until his eyes finally rested on the stream that steadily flowed beside them. "Hey! I have an idea." He said suddenly. "Maybe you could teach me a few of those fishing moves you're so famous for. Please! I never manage to catch fish, and I've always wanted to learn how."

Odette had been dosing on some river rocks, when she had been awoken by a raven's raucous warning call. She raised her head in alert, immediately noticing some movement among the trees in DarkClan's territory. Curious, she stood up and stretched, before heading towards the movement, stepping carelessly over DarkClan's borderline. It wasn't unnatural for her to trespass, not only did she not understand clanlife and rules, she did not understand their boundaries so she constantly crossed them without any fear of consequence or rebuttal. After all, wasn't the forest a free place?
As she got closer, she got a sudden glimpse of a spotted pelt through the trees. She did not conceal her presence, but rather walked directly towards them, nosily weaving though a small patch of undergrowth.

Flare smiled quietly at the compliment, but said nothing of it. Nikita's reasoning about catching more stuff made sense, but he thought that maybe they had scared too much prey off while catching the rabbit. "Fishing? That could work. You'd have to make sure not to forget how when the rivers freeze and you cannot practice though," he warned. "The first step, I suppose, is to find a water source, of course. When you position yourself, try to do it so that your shadow does not fall over the water. It will scare the fish away." He moved to the stream and sat at its edge in such a way so that his shadow feel behind him. "You could also wade a bit in the water, if that makes it easier for you, but right now the water is a bit too chilly. You'd catch a cold if you did."
The russet sharp-claw watched the stream for a minute. "You can see the fish as they pass by the glint of their scales or their shadow on the bottom if they're moving slow enough. As they pass, you just have to lash out as quick as you can and kill it before it finds its way back to water."

"I do have a bit of trouble with the leap-and-hold technique, as I can't usually gain enough height to stun my opponent for a good amount of time for me to inflict damage. I also have a bit of trouble with the countermove, and getting off the opponent's back before they roll over." lily pawed the ground, a bit nervous that heron might laugh at her. "oh, I'm sure you'll be fine." lily teased back, hoping that heron would be able to help her improve her skills, and his own.
"oh, and maybe if I get that down, we could invent a move together!" lily's tail waved high in the air, excited to start for the potential to create another of her own moves with heron's help. of course, she'd have to work on the basic moves before she went off inventing some of her own moves, just so that she had achieved the basic training that all to-be's received.

"Okay." He said, following the older Sharp-claw as he padded towards the stream's edge. "I guess that makes sense." Nikita stood nearby while Flare finished his explanation, taking care to position his shadow behind him, just as Flare had told him to do. Nikita calmly gazed into the water as Flare spoke, spotting several thin but long, dark shapes apparently swimming in place as they fought against the stream's slow-moving current. "That doesn't seem too difficult, though they seem a bit slippery to grasp with our paws. Do you have a technique for scooping them out, or grabbing them?"
