it's not horrible; it's just instinctual preservation. protect the species and all that. it's nothing they can help, and coatls as a species don't see anything wrong with it. it's natural to them.
at any rate, all the exiled coatls just go and join other clans.
@Jinxed

"Dull colors are regarded by other coatl with sorrow and trepidation. Coatls who are naturally born grey or white are regarded as bad omens, and often exiled from nests to protect the rest of the clutch from catching illness or ill luck."

In one of my Coatl's lore, that is what happened to him. His plumage wasn't colorful enough, and so he was thought to be a bad omen and kicked from his birth clan as soon as he could barely fend for himself. He turned out alright, though. He now holds quite a high rank within my clan as the matriarch's advisor.

That's sad.. but I guess it's just to keep the Coatl species from going extinct.. But if they join other clans, atleast they'll get some love there <3
omg now I must collect all Coatls with dull colors!

natural instinct is not "wrong", since that's a human term made to define a subset of characteristics that go against "morals". Unfair doesn't exist outside of human thought; survival of the fittest.

Animals do this int he wild too.
Thats why, for instance, a lot of albino mammals are found alone. Instinct is related to color. So if a animal, of the same species is not the right color, it shows signs of different, or sickness.
Remember the dragons, while intelligent like people, have natural instincts like animals. So, try not to percieve the color thing as a form of racism/normality but rather 'survival by species normality'

it depends on your perspective, honestly.
from other dragons' perspectives, it might be wrong. but to a coatl, it's just a way of life.
other dragons engage in iffy things, as well. for example:
Pearlcatchers:
"A dragon that has lost its pearl believes that it has lost its identity. Pearl-less dragons are outcast from Pearlcatcher society, and must make their way in the world by begging succor from lesser dragon species."
Ridgebacks:
"If caught red-handed in the midst of these resource-accumulations, a Ridgeback will simply shrug their spines and claim that they were just borrowing it: If you wanted it back all you had to do was ask!
This tendency to borrow first, ask later does not merely apply to the bare necessities. Ridgeback dragons freely borrow from one-another, the constant back-and-forth borrowing of the same items over and over a game, and the foundation of their relationships."
Guardians:
"Once a Guardian discovers its charge, it begins its new life. It is then considered a true dragon by the rest of their species. A guardian without a charge is considered only half a dragon."
you have to remember that these are still technically animals and they won't stray from base instincts that have been influencing them since the species has existed.
