Serenity paused coming down the stairs, overwhelmed by the number of
pack members before her. Mika, Amos, Hayden, and the new male all
managed to fit in the foyer. Her black converse weren't exactly made for
stealth, but Serenity managed to creep back up a few steps without
making much noise. She new it was useless to eavesdrop, as every person
down there had the same heightened sense of smell and hearing and such,
but that didn't stop the dirty blonde from taking a seat on the top step
and watching the others interact with mild interest. Mika seemed to be
with the new male, though earlier Serenity had been pretty sure that the
girl was with Ben...but now that the brute had run away with what's-her-

face-never-met-her, it made sense to move on. Mika also seemed somewhat in pain, the source of which being a wound that Serenity hadn't noticed before. The fae should have been laying down and healing, not sitting in the lap of some brute. Shaking her head, the teen rested her arms on her jeans and continued to watch, waiting to see what would happen next, safe in her partially hidden spot.

"I woke when I heard the call." Hayden smiled at Amos's approach, then ducked his head as Amos unexpectedly slid an arm around his shoulders. Though Hayden could tell the omega wasn't exercising one bit of his power, his touch still had a profound effect on Hayden's heart rate; he was flustered at once, but also found himself happy at the comfortable and casual air with which Amos tugged him close. That happiness soon made way, however, for less pleasant emotions. Hayden turned his head in shock as Amos broke the news: Violet, the girl whom he'd believed to be his apprentice as well as Benji, leader of the pack, had unexpectedly vanished.

"Huh?" was all Hayden could manage to say, in complete surprise. "What... Where did they vanish to?" He realized that if Amos knew the answer to this question, they probably wouldn't even be having this conversation, and shook his head. He was still a little out of it, having been asleep only minutes earlier, and tried to get himself to wake up faster. "I see... Well, that's unexpected... But it seems as though everything is okay." Hayden couldn't see a problem with Cybil becoming alpha, there was also someone available to fill the empty beta spot, the only problem was the spot Violet had left...

"Well... I may know someone," he said, racking his brains and suddenly finding an idea. Through his life, Hayden hadn't interacted with too many werewolves, but he was still aware of a few who lived in the same city he'd grown up in, due to his parents doing their best to stay connected with the community even in the midst of human civilization. It was that tendency of theirs that had eventually led to Hayden being given the Evergreen Reservation opportunity. "I'll give her a call... In the morning, though, this is a stupid hour of the night to be calling anyone, but I'll try and get in contact as soon as possible. This is all so sudden," he spoke, frowning at the floor. "But as long as Violet and Benjamin are all right..." The girl had never seemed to want her position as healer's apprentice in the first place and as for Benji, though it came as a surprise, upon further reflection Hayden could understand... Being a part of this pack at all was a big responsibility, and alpha was the toughest position of all.

"I admit, it's a shock that members of the pack are already leaving... I figured that some might not be up to it, but it's only been a day or so." This turn of events made Hayden a little worried for the future. "Anyway... is that the only reason why we were called here...?" he asked, glancing up into Amos's eyes. "Is something to be done, or did Cybil just want everyone to know the news?"

"So dawn goes down to day, nothing gold can stay..."

Amos smiled at Hayden, rocking him slightly as
he relayed the exciting news, "The pack is being
gathered so that my lil cousin can be coronated!"
His chocolaty eyes gleamed with excitement, even
when Cybil glanced over at the two, sighing deeply.

"Amos the coronation is just a formality. You don't need
to act like it's a wedding." Her voice was light and amused
as she glanced inside at Mika and Alistair, "Though, that doesn't
seem to be an unlikely event in our future." The alphess and
her cousin shared a grin before she turned her attention to
Van and Amos turned his to the healer.

"I know Violet and Benji leaving is rough, but every new
pack is bound to have some trouble." He was warm,
welcoming, kind. Especially around the healer, who Amos
clearly had taken a liking too.

"Oh, a coronation!" That word choice immediately made Hayden think of a sparkling crown fit for a queen being placed onto Cybil's head; he couldn't help himself, and inwardly wished that he could see that sight, though he knew it wasn't very likely. Cybil herself confirmed that the ceremony probably wouldn't be anything special. The new alpha shot off a quip about the practically-entwined forms of Mika and the new beta Alistair that made Hayden think she'd mentioned weddings only to make that joke, before turning her attention back to the wolf Hayden remembered as bringing Mika in that evening after she'd been gored by the wild board.

Hayden glanced back at Amos, keenly aware of the omega's arm around his shoulders. When Amos rocked back slightly, Hayden let himself fall an inch into the omega's side, but didn't dare do anything as bold as put his own arm around Amos's waist in return. Then they would practically be flush against each other. Did the omega always initiate this... borderline cuddling... behavior, whenever he wanted to have a conversation with someone?

"You're right. Still, it's a little bit of a blow. I was just getting ready to start trusting Benji, but to think that someone of such high rank would call it quits..." Hayden sighed. "However, I think it's a nonissue now. Cybil seems to have a very dependable personality. Did you say she's your cousin?" Glancing back over at the blonde beta -- alpha now, he corrected himself mentally -- he could see the family resemblance if he looked for it.

"And as for Violet... I'm pretty sure I can manage by myself for a few days. Although, if injuries like Mika's keep happening at the same rate, it may get tough!" Hayden again remembered the way Amos had assisted during that incident with a lot of gratitude. It was one use for an omega's power he had never considered, but now that the idea had been introduced, Hayden could already think of at least five different ways that such a calming influence could be utilized in his healing duties... and countless more in which the mere presence of the omega would be enjoyable, his witty conversation and warm attitude... These things, that were not even close to being related to the current topic of conversation... Ugh. "But hopefully the wolf I have in mind will be open to joining our pack, Hayden dragged himself back to topicality, "And she doesn't live far from here, so I expect she will be able to be present with us soon, if she accepts the offer."

Trying to think of topics with which to continue the conversation as they waited for the coronation ceremony to begin, Hayden's thoughts drifted to the day ahead. Ugh, being up at this hour... He might need to take a nap or something later on in the day, just to get his full dose of sleep... If it was confessed, Hayden loved sleeping in mornings; being able to gradually wake up without the aid of an alarm clock or any disturbance made for a relaxing start to the day like no other in his opinion. "Hey, Amos, I was wondering. Are we doing anything special tomorrow? I'm ... well, I'm not experienced at living in a pack," he admitted, "and I'm not sure what to expect on a day-to-day basis, living here."

It had taken him a while before he felt as if he had seen enough of the hubbub in the kitchen.
Van was not a man of great words, so he had had a certain effort to find the right ones for Cybil and when chaos broke out and his beloved morning-peace fell, he silently had retreated to the farthest corner of the table to eat his toast, trying to get not disturbed by anybody.
As the howling sounded, he almost automatically raised his head, like a scalded cat, before his gaze immediately wandered to Cybil and his gaze said what she thought.
It made Van angry, what the new beta allowed himself. He could feel the fur of his inner wolf get up and he growled.
Van had to control himself.
He took a deep breath, nodded, and followed her.
During the conversation, he did not move from her side, but stood there like a statue, the view constantly directed to the beta.
But he did not like the conversation changing as she suddenly spoke warmer, more friendly with him. He knew it was her duty to be polite, but it still made him uneasy.
Finally, he had long weighed whether he should do it, or not, he addressed the word to the Alpha, muted.
"We- I mean you should go back to your room, I think a shower would be appropriate, I mean .... You do not look like an alpha who is ready for coronation."
Yes, he was sometimes improperly honest. Still, he tried a slight smile to show that it was not meant to be evil.

"On the whole, human beings want to be good,
but not too good, and not quite all the time..."

Cybil felt a small laugh bubble through her throat
as she turned, laying a warm hand on Van's chest.
"Thank you for reminding me to take care of
myself. I suppose WE should go." The girl tilted
her head, looking up at the fighter with shimmering
eyes that could melt the coldest of hearts.

"Understand I'm not asking for you to shower with
me, but company in my room while I prepare would
be a welcome respite. Amos and Hayden can greet
people, and Mika and Alistair are just inside to gather
everyone." Her tone was hopeful, soft. She didn't
feel right being alone, not when her nerves were so
jangled and Van was one of the only people that
made her feel calm.

If she was honest, she really just wanted some time
to talk to him alone, without the pressures of being
an alpha and managing a pack for a bit. Surely she
could be spared that.

Amos smiled at the boy again, amusement an
eternal glimmer in his eyes. "To be honest,
I'm not the best person to ask about pack
duties. As an Omega I'm really not required
to do anything unless there's a fight."

Amos shrugged, slowly, almost reluctantly,
slipping his arm off of Haydens shoulder as he
leaned back against the porch, glancing around
before looking back to the wolf.

"But too my knowledge no, there isn't any
pack business going on tomorrow."

It was a valid question and one she did not have a good answer to. Could she handle the dangers he brought? They couldn't be any worse than what she encountered, could they? It still puzzled Kathrine as to why he had even offered her to stay in the first place knowing how much of a loner that he was. And...why was he so willing to take on whatever followed her if she stayed? She couldn't read anything from his eyes at the moment either, not even his anger, and that surprisingly made her a bit uneasy. Now that she thought about it, when had his anger disappeared? She'd been so focused on controlling her emotions again that Kathrine didn't see it go away. What she did see was the challenging glint in his scarlet gaze, but she wondered if it was more like he was accepting her in total under that surface, flaws and all. Was that what it was? She couldn't be sure, and if that was what he truly meant, she wasn't sure what to think of it.

Her feelings kept swarming behind the walls of her defenses, each trying its hardest to break through and be seen, but Kathrine again forced them back with an unrelenting force. For some reason, this caused a feeling of pain in her heart that she hadn't felt for years. Kathrine hadn't been sad to hide her feelings since the day she'd realized she'd never see her family again. Back then, she knew why she was so sorrowful, but now, she had no idea why she felt this way. She narrowed her eyes as the emotions swarmed, but Kathrine did her best to ignore them and look at Luke. Carefully, she lowered her haunches to the ground to sit upon, her tail curling around her legs as she sat down. Still wary, Kathrine watched his movements for any signs of dissatisfaction or signs of hostility as she moved herself to lie down. Once there, she relaxed her muscles and lay still, crossing one paw of the other in a comfortable manner as she looked up at the black wolf with a more confident look in her eyes than there had been only a few moments ago. When she spoke, her tone was back to its calmness that covered over the conflicting emotions that begged to be let free. She could have answered in him in many ways; challenge him back, assure she could take it, decline that she didn't think she could, but the answer she chose was as such:

"I guess I will have to prove that I can to both of us, won't I?"

Van felt heat flashing in his face, thinking that she might think he was going to presume things like considering to shower with her. He would not dare in any case - except of course Cybil would command as an alpha. But the thought alone made him turn his face in another direction.
Nevertheless, he gathered together to announce with a nod of his head: "Of course, if you wish, I will accompany you, it would be a pleasure."
The tall man ran through the now dry hair, fluffy and clean, with the smell of his shampoo dispersed in the air.
He did not know where her room was, but he nevertheless took the blondes delicate hand in his to get away quickly from the others before anyone could see the embarrassment dancing in his handsome face.
He could not afford to let that happen in his position, especially in front of a titch like the new beta. Only thinking about this man made him slightly mad.

The beautiful blonde smiled and accepted Van's
hand, leading him inside. She paused for a second
to nod to Mika and Alistair, telling them
silently to take over while she was gone. And then
she was headed up the stairs with Van, thin fingers
still interlocked with his.

"You know. I never actually thought this would
happen. It wasn't supposed to." Her door, Cybil
opened it and stepped in, revealing a room that was
a perfect representation of the girl. Painted in a soft
blue color, everything else in the room was made of black
leather or dark wood. A canopy bed took center stage,
with a desk that was littered in drawings and paints off
the window. The girl blushed, hurrying over to gather up
her drawings and shove them in a drawer.

"I-I mean becoming Alpha. I was bred to be beta for
my last pack. I never expected to become part of a new
one." She glanced over her shoulder at Van, cheeks
flushed rosy pink.
