Its not a trust thing, as unfortunately it's happened before actually. So they just want to be sure that they're actually yours instead of them being dragons laoned to you.

This exactly. It's not personally towards you, love.
But on several occasions loaner's have been bred without permission, exalted without notice, and (most often) sold under their owner's nose. There was even one report of a newbie didn't know who their loaned trainers belonged to so they went to the thread.
So thread staff likes to make sure they belong to the one trying to purge them. <3

thanks for that, I've just had players on here range from "rah your list pets aren't really list pets stop tryna scam me weeehhh" to some pretty awful insults so i guess i'm prepared to have my hackles raised.
