He felt a tingling sensation on the cheek where her lips felt cool on his always warm skin and he brought up a small smile to show her that everything was okay, as her gaze seemed worried.
Van did not know why, but he felt good when he gave her a feeling of safety.
"Do not worry, no one will dare doubt your position - otherwise they will have to argue with me and no one wants that.
I promise."

He allowed himself another moment to kneel before her and to enjoy her beauty, before he straightened himself again.
The brownhaired man cleared his throat and took his plate back into his hand, to at least give the impression that he had something to do.
"Tell me ... what about that story with the loners Mika mentioned?
Something happened?"

but not too good, and not quite all the time..."

Cybil stood up as well, taking a seat at the kitchen
counter and watching Van with bright blue eyes.
"It's not as horrible as it sounds. I accidentally
crossed borders on my way home. Ended up in the
territory of a high powered loner. He wasn't happy
to see me and...well he attacked."
The girl rubbed
her shoulder. She still hadn't checked if he had left a
mark on her. She could take care of it later.

"Anyways. I got out from under him before he ripped
out my throat. Another loner came by, distracted him or
calmed him down. I realized my mistake, apologized,
and left. It just got me thinking that we need to set
boundaries, or at least monitor the loners on the reservation
land."

The stunning blonde dropped her hand from her shoulder,
reaching out to pick up her hot chocolate and bringing it
to her lips to drink, eyes still trained on the handsome brute.

He could not help but glare at the thought that someone else had attacked and possibly injured the new alpha.
Van would pay It back to the wolf some time. But now he tried to calm down again and concentrate on the border affairs.
"We have to set boundaries that are regularly renewed and loners on our territory are only problems and can be dangerous to our hunters when it comes to prey or quarreling.
We should begin by crushing the territory and throwing all out of our country, which have nothing to look for here."

He paused in his loud reflections to sink his head in the fridge and look for something to feed.
He found salami and threw the pack on the sideboard before he pushed two toasts into the toaster and looked at her.
Curiously he raised an eyebrow and sniffed.
"Hot chocolate? Does it taste good? "

Cybil smiled, holding out the mug for him to
take, "Try it for yourself." As he accepted
the mug, she sat back, kicking her legs and
pondering in silence for a moment before looking
back up. "Will you help me find borders tomorrow?
Mika is still wounded, and we don't have a beta yet.
Plus...I'd feel better with your company after today's
events."

The question held sub notes of something else, another
request that Cybil couldn't ask quite yet. It was true,
she felt something for the warm brute. She felt a lot for
him in fact. But things were still messy with him and Mika,
and she wanted to make sure that emotions had settled before
trying to move in on a relationship of any sort.

The girl had learned the hard way to be careful when it
came to romance in the pack. It was not a mistake she'd
make again.

{ Mᴀᴛʀᴏɴᴀ Vᴇɢᴀ // }
{ female // seventeen // huntress (lvl. six) // interest: no one // location: woods }
▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅

Her stoic facade rippled when his “my queen” comment found her ears, her lip faintly twitching in distaste, though a faint shine of pride was in her eyes as well. Under normal circumstances (the circumstances of her being an heiress, that is), she might stick her nose up and bask in the “praise”, but since she had been stripped of her title and was nothing more than a nameless stranger to him, her brain took it more as a sarcastic jab, perhaps mocking her pompous mannerisms. Not to mention being called a Queen just reminded her how little power and authority she actually had now... Ah, but she was not entirely blind to his intent; she could see the amusement in his gaze (something she noticed was very prominent about the male) and caught the smile in his words and on his face. He was just teasing. Calm down. Deep breath.

Composed, she suddenly noticed he had stepped rather close to her, the furs of their chests faintly brushing and his muzzle mere inches from her's, green-blues locking with her icy blues. This was entirely too close, she thought. What little muscles she had tensed and she found herself fluffing up, shoulders squaring some in a weak attempt to be bigger. A cautious voice stirred in the back of her head, brought on by the stranger's close proximity: you don’t know him, you can’t trust him, you’re alone and unprotected out here. She knew it was nonsense, as the wolf simply radiated a kind of warmth that suggested he was, in fact, trustworthy, even to someone of her skeptical nature… Maybe she just wasn’t used to someone being so close… Let alone a male. Let alone a male she didn’t know. One of her hind paws inched backwards, yearning for some distance between the two...

Then he stepped away, granting her the space she wanted, and that tension in her chest disappeared, the cool night winds washing tranquility over her once more. Yep. Space. That was it. Breathe…

"Would you like to take charge my lady as I think we have established who is the better hunter here."

A scoff forced it’s way of her throat, no doubt the rest of the tension leaving her body. Having confirmed his comments were light hearted and harmless, she didn’t take offense when referred to as “my lady”, and was more than willing to agree that she was the better hunter.

“Of course.” She slowly turned around and made to lower her nose to the ground, intending to get this hunt started so it could be over with, but seemed to visibly freeze at the male’s next words. Well, more so the one word: loner.

Ah. There it was. The term she’d been looking for, and the key to unlocking the hazy memories of her mother’s warnings. She’d been told about loners before, albeit in a casual way, and only a few times. Loners were wolves that lived freely of the pack systems.... They conformed to no laws, had no order, and in some cases, might even threaten a pack’s order, should territory disputes break out. In her world of high society and upper class, a loner was the equivalent of a thief or some other outlaw; lower than a peasant and only good for causing trouble. She’d never encountered one before (mother wouldn’t dare let her stray far enough), nor ever thought she would, so it wasn’t really necessary to have an opinion on them aside from the one her mother bottle fed her. She had thought they mustn't be very good, as she did like for things to be orderly, and when she was Alpha one day (ha), she might grow to dislike them more once she had to deal with them… Yet sometimes, in private, when running through the woods and imagining she was free of title and responsibility, she might wonder what it would be like to have never known pack structure... To truly be free, as they seemed to be... So, one could say she was mildly disdainful towards them, but more so curious about their lifestyle… maybe even a teeny, tiny bit jealous…

All that aside though, it definitely put her in a pickle to suddenly realize her predicament and not be sure with how to handle it. Exactly how did this pack feel about loners? Was he even allowed to be here? Too late for that, she supposed. She cursed at herself once more for missing the pack dinner, assuming some useful information might’ve been passed around, such as their opinion on loners or what to do if you find one trespassing… Oh well. You know what? Who cared. She honestly didn’t. She was hungry, and it wasn't not like he was stealing… She doubted anyone would know, so long as they were quick about it and she told him to stay off the territory afterwards. Done with debating it, she lifted her head and sighed silently, then lowered it again and elegantly strode past him to take her place in the lead, a slim shadow in the moonlight.

“I fail to see how they will gain any knowledge of this. I likely won’t encounter any of my pack mates for the remainder of the night, and by the time I might interact with them in the morning, whatever traces of you clinging to my fur will be long gone.” Her nose had lowered to the terrain now, taking in the scents scattered along the cool forest floor. She then briefly turned her head and gazed at him intensely with a single icy blue eye.

“As should you be gone from this territory. Understood?”

Zane waited as the female took up point a small frown on his muzzle at her words. "Actually my lovely this territory is open for all. Why you have so many loners in these parts, but I've always wondered why no one claims it. Also, why is there always a different pack every couple years here? I am new to these parts, but every loner knows about this place really or well..knows a rumor." He trotted up to her side gazing down upon her curiously before putting his nose to work. Lowering it to the ground he inhaled the scents of the forest sorting them for something worthy to lock onto. He began to move forward his fur a stark contrast to her black shadowy pelt. He defiantly stood out more that was for sure. It was as if her eyes were the only color she had, and what a startlingly color it was. Except he couldn't let her distract him from their hunt. They could at least talk though of course. "I mean.. I will leave if you need me too. I hardly wish to get you in trouble, but just think of it as a little reminder to yours. There are some nasty loners out here.." He said the last bit with a rumble in his chest as he thought about the more aggressive loners. Some loners were even claiming territory, and he didn't think that was allowed otherwise this land wouldn't be open land..it would of been claimed generations ago. Not his problem however, as he wasn't planning on staying in these parts anyways. "So what exactly are you in the mood for?'

MIKA

Mika bite her thumb nail as she sat cross legged on her bed having already changed her bandages, and outfit. She now wore black booty shorts of the pajama kind, and a simple green tank. She knew green complimented her amber gaze. Her purple hair was up in a ponytail, but loose strands hugged her face as she concentrated. Her nose was crinkled up in thought as she read the files before her. Each file had a picture, and a pack crest on the corner along with pack details as well as individual. Alpha, and beta alike were in the pile until with a sigh she moved the betas away. Cybil needed another Alpha in the pack to have the power level she wanted for their pack - no needed. That left only five files on her bed, and she removed two. Herself, and Benji. That left only three, and she bite her lip as she eyed them. Finally a groan escaped her lips..she didn't want too, but time was a issue which left - him. Mika put her face in her hands as she let out a couple of curses. She had met him once, and despite being close to the same age he had treated her like a child! He was the first person her foster pack had ever let her near that was her age..and he had squished all her hopes. Of course, he probably didn't even know. What would he treat her as when he found out she was an omega now? Mika felt her wolf stir at that the she wolf letting out a growl. She dared him to treat her like anything less then an equal this time! Mika's eyes flashing picked up the phone dialing his number with a new sense of bravery or ..Attitude. "Hello, may I speak to Alistair? It's Mika Rose...Thanks. Yes, Alistair. I need you.." Mika then went on to explain everything that had happened from her not being Alpha, to the loners, her injury, Benji leaving, and how Cybil was now Alpha..but they needed a beta. It took some persuasions, but eventually she ended the call getting to her bare feet. He would be here soon. Mika sighed letting it sink in what she just did before leaving her room heading down the stairs. She paused in the foyer hands clasped before her as she waited his arrival.

Open for all. Was that how it worked then, or was that simply a loner’s point of view?

Either way, something burned in her chest and worked it’s way up to her cheeks, a certain something that made her glad to have dark fur: the embarrassed blush of ignorance. And there she was, telling, ordering, him to make himself scarce by dawn, only to find out she actually had no authority to do so. How do you fancy that? This freelancing loner knew more about her new “home” than she did… Here was yet another thing she disliked about losing the situation. At home, she’d been submerged in her pack’s culture since birth, firmly educated on everything she needed to know about laws, dynamic, etiquette, politics, etc. Here, she was thrown headfirst into a place she knew nothing about… Knowledge was her only weapon, so to lack it made her feel far too vulnerable... Although, in her defense, that was a rather new concept. Who’d ever heard of a pack territory that was open to loners? Certainly not her… obviously… How could she have known?

You probably would have, had you not missed the dinner…

    Enough of that.

She averted her gaze and got back to work, taking in the scents of the forest and hoping the chilling air would cool her burning cheeks. As expected, she had no answer to his inquiry about why there seemed to be a new pack every generation. Again, she hadn’t even known that information to begin with, so how could she know why it was so? All she could do was lowly utter, “I am rather new myself, ergo not as thoroughly educated in this pack’s ways as I’d like to be...” A rather simple way to summarize her complex feelings... She hated to admit her ignorance, as it only served to double her embarrassment, but she didn’t have any other choice. Claim otherwise and he could easily call her bluff. Stay silent and he’d likely fill in the blanks for himself anyway, then ask more questions she couldn't answer.

It was a curious thing, the idea that this pack renews its members every generation. Did that mean her place here was not permanent, that she might eventually return home? Or… A shudder passed through her, and not one caused by the night winds. Were they expected to procreate with one another and create the new pack themselves? Oh definitely not, she thought in a rare moment of defiance, her jaw setting and paws falling a tad harder on the ground. She’d always known her mate would be chosen for her (oh the countless number of suitors her parents had cycled through), had learned to live with the thought long ago, but the idea of such a thing happening here just made bile rise in her throat. Normally, she was an obedient girl, always one to fall in line with the commands of her elders/superiors, assuming they knew much better than her, but if this was the case, she’d have to draw a line. That certainly seemed more than even her parents would have agreed to… right? Course, no need to get so riled so quickly though… As the male said, it was a rumor to him, so maybe it wasn’t even true, and if it was, it probably wasn’t what she thought… Hopefully, anyway. She hurriedly tried to turn her attention back to the task at hand, though it seemed the loner was determined to keep talking.

"I mean.. I will leave if you need me too. I hardly wish to get you in trouble, but just think of it as a little reminder to yours. There are some nasty loners out here.."

Ah. Now that sounded more like the depiction of loners her mother had created. The she-wolf found her eyes darting up and around, scanning the shadows surrounding them in a wary manner. If this land truly was open to loners, she could easily imagine great hulking beasts lurking just beyond sight, with fangs large enough to crush her throat in one bite and nothing but malice in their gazes... Had she known that's what it was like out here, she might not have gone running... Another shudder passed through her. Then a low rumble like thunder emanated from somewhere near her, causing the female to lurch slightly and whirl her head in the sounds direction, icy orbs wide. Oh… It was just the loner with her, growling at something... An annoyed huff escaped her muzzle before she turned her head back down and quickened her pace, now twice as enthusiastic about getting this over with.

The conversation shifted topic, now coming back to the hunt. Her ears perked and swiveled, scanning the woods for sounds to accompany scents, scanning. She’d take whatever was in range honestly, so long as it wasn’t something trivial like a skunk or porcupine. “A hare would be preferable, but if something similar should find us first, I won’t object.”

Just then, something suddenly hit her, the impact similar to a wall of bricks, causing the huntress to freeze in her tracks. Well, it was not a physical impact, but a sensual one. The wind had shifted, blowing directly into their faces, and with it came the extremely fresh trail of a hare... In fact, she could even hear the faint rustling of underbrush ahead of them. Bingo.

The she-wolf slowed her pace and stalked forward, seeming to melt into the shadows around them, her ears just twitching ever so slightly. Her eyes were sharply trained on a specific place ahead of them, hinting at her prey's location. Slowly... slowly...

    Snap!

Her hind leg put too much pressure on a twig in her path, causing it to break cleanly in two and alert the hare to her (well, their) presence. A blurred figure shot through the underbrush, disturbing the shrubbery and wood around it. Matrona didn't even take the time to be upset with her blunder; she'd already shifted her gait and was racing after the creature, a blur of movement herself.

Zane studied the female his gaze going to her as she didn't really answer any of his questions. A frown upon his muzzle because as a pack wolf shouldn't she know? He got his head back into the hunt as she brought them back to the errand at hand. It was ironic then that as soon as she said she wanted a hare they smelt one. What were the odds? He watched her lean black form dip into a hunters prowl admiring how she did it with ease. His blue green eyes slowly dragged over her form a weird feeling coming over him. Heavens above she was magnificent..If he could ma..SNAP. Zane shook his head from his straying thoughts only to see her backside disappearing on him! " Hey, wait up!" He called after her throwing himself forward into high gear. His gear however was far less then hers, and she still seemed to be getting ahead of him. He let out a growl of annoyance at his build straining himself to go faster. "Matrona! There's a drop off over there! Matrona!" He yelled at her escaping form starting to gasp for air as he pushed himself harder, and harder. Until finally he was gaining ground the drop off also coming into sight. All it would take was for that rabbit to suddenly veer to the side, and the Queen would go sliding into the dark. Fear struck him hard at that thought giving him a short burst of adrenaline energy. Zane finally grazing the hairs of her tail slammed both paws into the ground sending him flying forward. He hit her hard sending them both skidding until finally they came to a stop. He let out a yelp as his hind legs slid off into open air. Clawing at the ground he let out a curse," Get the hare! I got it." He told her as he began to pull himself up back legs clawing for perches. The rabbit meanwhile seemed to freeze for a moment before bolting again

Though the ebony she-wolf had noticed the way the wolf before her dug his claws into the ground, she didn’t flinch. Stepping back only a smidge, she tilted her head to listen. She could sense the disappointment that she hadn’t known the territory and had watched the way his eyes danced across the forest. What was he planning exactly, clearly his mind was fast at work, measuring out what would be best for him, but what was best for her. Her own ice blue eyes turned, she had been along for far too long and however minute this all was, it had filled a spot in her that only companionship could do. She let her ears flicker forward, thinking of once again running with a pack, lately that seemed to be her minds main focus on whilst she did her best to shake of the longing feeling it never seemed to fully dissipate, perhaps friendship was all she truly needed. She snapped back into reality as his voice traveled along her senses. She shifted until her eyes gazed at his and his words registered in her mind. He would be staying at the dens, that seemed fair, he had found them first and he seemed contented with what they offered, she herself wouldn’t mind curling up in the confines of a warm, spacious den, or perhaps with her fur brushing that of another wolf’s so gently as she breathed. She snapped herself back to the conversation as he spoke of exploration before daylight waned, but as he turned he seemed to freeze, one paw dangling in the air. Had he perhaps caught the way her mind seemed to dance away from the conversation momentarily, perhaps it was her energy and the way her mind pleaded for companionship that froze him to the spot, whatever it was she was more than thankful when he asked if she would join. From there he leaped with grace to the ground below them, she hesitated only momentarily, her eyes shifting towards the dark of the woods where she had buried her athame, before she leapt to his side, her paws skidding slightly against the ground. She never lost her balance, and stood with poise the moment her paws halted before she trotted after the brute. “There is a stream a short distance off, that much I do know” she murmured, keeping a respectful distance between herself and the wolf who had invited her along. Despite longing for companionship she didn’t yet wish to be so close to another wolf that she lost all personal space. Instead she just turned her head slightly, waiting to see if he would question her or make his own decision about where water would be found, it mattered little to her, so long as she could lapse up some cool, refreshing water and listen to the call of the birds dancing through the trees.

The morning had held been reasonably successful for Alastair, the smell of prey still clinging to parts of his fur as he made his way back home. He could hear the birds dancing through the trees, their songs reverberating through the gray wolf’s ears. His maw parted in a soft bark, alerting the birds to his presence. Though he liked the sound they made, they were a bit too cheery for him currently, and instead he opted for silence. When the last of their songs turned to shrill warnings and waned into the distance he allowed a sigh to escape his maw. Hunger no longer tugged at his abdomen and for that much he was grateful. Before he reached home, he shifted, his hair falling loosely around his shoulders. A loud, obnoxious ring came from within the confines of the building nearest to him and within a couple of seconds the phone was pressed against his cheek and Mika’s voice sounded on the other end. He remembered her, he hadn’t much treated her like an adult when they had first met, ruffling her hair in an attempts to ruffle her fur and it had worked. He had felt the way her inner wolf had despised his motions, but now her voice was not so annoying and rather sang to his ears. He couldn’t help a small, sly smile that trickled across his lips. However, her question replaced the playful grin with a more distasteful look. Beta? She wanted him as Beta? He shook the crude frown from his face and nodded to himself “I’ll be there momentarily” he spoke, his voice husky as he ran a hand through his hair. He turned, heading towards Mika’s place, his deep blue eyes piercing the broken shadows of the buildings. Was he thrilled to be asked about Beta? Sure but what about his Alpha lines? When he got to the place he needed to be he curled his hand into a fist and knocked “Mika” he called, blinking as he stared at the closed door.

╚═════════════╝
Faeryn shook out her white pelt, her light green eyes the color of the forest in summer time. Shadows rippled across her pelt as she slipped through the forest, her paws softly landing upon the soil, turning it upwards with swift movements. She dogged trees, felt them glide against her pelt, but she never slowed. Her breathing becoming something between exasperated and excitable, she skidded to a stop. Her tongue lolled at the side of her maw, her canines glistening as the small rays of sunlight danced across them. She hadn’t eaten that morning, spending her time dashing through the undergrowth of the forest, overtly pleased at the way the breeze sifted through her fur and tugged at the corners of her maw, but now thirst and hunger both gripped at her abdomen and a whine escaped her lips as she slunk forward. The adrenaline slowly ebbed out of her body, replacing it with pure exhaustion. The scent of water stung her nostrils until she was face to face with the trickling stream. Her tongue entrapped the water, bringing it into her maw as she swallowed down the refreshing taste. She was relieved when her belly heaved a small sigh. The pain wasn’t so great meaning her hunger could wait, but as she though it the scent of fresh kill wafted over her nose. It wasn’t far off, and so she set out on her way. So small and still of a foolish age she never checked for the scent of a wolf among the smell of fresh prey. It wasn’t until she was face to face with the wolf, that she realized she had probably made a mistake. “Hello” she uttered, her tail hanging loosely, ears flicking forward.
