The Story Itself:
A white she-cat with ginger patches was lying on a rock just outside of the camp, cleaning her fur but also watching everything around her. It was the usual scene, cats sharing-tongues, eating prey or returning from patrols.
She caught sight of two familiar toms, one of which walked right over to her. He was a snow white tom with blaring blue eyes.
"Go eat crow-food, Snowstorm," the she-cat spat before he could say anything.
The tom sighed and padded away. It was ok for her to talk to him like that. He was, after all, her brother. She watched the tom that her brother had returned with. Duskfang. He had a grey-brown pelt with a white muzzle and chest. As well as being quite a handsome tom he was also the son of Talonstar, the current ShadowClan leader.
"Sagewhisker!" Duskfang called. "Do you want to go on a patrol with me and Jaystorm?"
"You just came back from one with Snowstorm!" Sagewhisker called back.
"I know, just come on!"
Sagewhisker rolled her pale blue eyes before rising to her paws and padding after him. Duskfang was always incredibly active and didn't like to lie down for long.
"Don't you ever rest?" Sagewhisker purred.
"Don't you ever not?" Duskfang nudged her playfully.
Neither of them noticed Jaystorm, an old blue-grey she-cat, was moving ahead of them.
"C'mon!" she growled. "You two may as well of stayed at camp."
Sagewhisker, while letting her competitive edge out of its holding place, sprinted ahead just so that she was in the lead.
"What border?" she called over her shoulder.
"ThunderClan," replied Jaystorm.
"I'll race you two!" Sagewhisker purred competitivly.
"You're on!" she heard Duskfang meowed just as he ran past her.
The white and ginger she-cat launched herself forward and into a sprint. Duskfang got closer and closer as she sped forward. She knew she would win. If she won against her brother then she could win against Duskfang.
Sagewhisker was soon flying ahead of the grey-brown tom. She looked over her shoulder to see him frozen with fear and Jaystorm with the exact same expression beside him.
Suddenly, the young she-cat could smell a different scent from her own Clan. She had run right into ThunderClan territory!
After a moment of though, Sagewhisker felt herself being pinned to the ground. She opened her blue eyes wide but showed no fear. ShadowClan feared no cat!
She had been pinned by a slender golden tom. His fur was sleek and nicely groomed and his eyes were round and amber. Sagewhisker recognized this tom but she didn't quite know where from.
"What are you doing here?" the tom spat.
"Aspenpaw?" Sagewhisker asked quietly.
The golden tom stepped away from her and sat down. He slowly wrapped his tail around his paws and tilted his head to one side.
"Sagepaw?" he asked softly.
A second passed before Sagewhisker took a step towards him.
"You survived the fall?" she inquired.
"Yeah," he mewed. "You became a warrior?"
"Yes, I'm Sagewhisker now. What's your warrior name?"
"Sagewhisker," he purred. "That's a nice name. I'm Aspenfeather."
"Spiderstar chose your name well," Sagewhisker commented. "So, how's ThunderClan?"
"It's fine. How's ShadowClan?"
"Fine too," Duskfang hissed, almost stepping over the border. "Sagewhisker, do you know this cat?"
"Yeah," Sagewhisker mewed. "He's my friend."
She nuzzled his neck affectionately. They used to meet every night at the border when they were apprentices but stopped meeting when Aspenfeather's mentor chased them around the ShadowClan border then into ShadowClan territory. Aspenfeather and Sagewhisker managed to climb up a Twoleg nest but when his mentor snuck up behind them he scared Aspenfeather and he fell off the Twoleg nest. After that they didn't see each other.
"Sagewhisker, is he your mate because he seems awfully defensive?" Aspenfeather asked.
"No," snapped Sagewhisker. "Of course not!"
After a few moments hesitation Sagewhisker spoke again.
"Have you got a mate?" she asked.
"No," purred Aspenfeather. "Have you?"
"Nope," mewed Sagewhisker.
Duskfang let out a snarl.
"If you two are done talking I think we should get back. Someone else can do this border," he hissed.
Aspenfeather and Sagewhisker touched noses. Sagewhisker licked his muzzle before leaping over the border.
