"Drownings happen!" That came out cold but Sweetdrop forged on anyways, "We can't just start turning on each other because of it! We might as well attack the river!" Black and red enveloped the tom and he struggled to keep his breathing even. He turned to the medicine cat apprentice, forcing his eyes not to linger on the body. "Honeypaw, this can't be a cat's work right?"

Snakepaw had joined them during the argument, and flicked his tail gruffly. "If it's just an accident, explain to me how she fell, hm?" His eyes flicked to the crowd of cats, waiting for an answer.

He snorted and glared at his clanmates. "What says she fell? She could've been swimming in the river, looking for fish when a strong current came! I say you're all paranoid. What kind of clanmate would kill another, let alone their deputy? It's mousebrained."

(No clue, someone said Fogfox so I guess that's who I'll vote for as well)

Flypelt head turned in the direction Snakepaw's voice came from.
"She could have easily slipped, as the edge is slippery enough for one to lose their footing and fall it,"
He replied, then corrected the tom,
"The better question is; how was she not able to swim near shore and climb out? The only way is if a cat was intentionally preventing her from being able to get out, as we all know Snowstorm was a strong swimmer, and just strong in general."

"And she is.. was, v-very strong. I don't think a current would have b-brough her d-down..." Chicorypaw murmured, then glanced at Snakepaw and Flypelt. "She might have fallen, b-but knowing Snowstorm.. she wouldn't have b-been kept d-down..."

He shook his head in denial. "You're too young, but when I was an apprentice, the leader who had a full nine lives drowned and lost all of them. He was the best swimmer this clan had ever seen, but he was no match for the currents that day. And they're even worse during a storm." The black tom bowed his head sadly as he remembered the events that had taken place so many moons ago.

Fogfox awoke with a groan, almost immediately noticing the frantic voices in the distance and the fear-scent in the air. He slowly got to his paws, stretched, and started to make his way towards the commotion. His eyes widened in shock and disbelief when he arrived at the scene. Snowstorm? Dead? He simply couldn't believe it. She was a strong warrior and he hadn't expected her to actually die before becoming leader. He looked downwards. Well, that's one opponent I don't have to deal with anymore. he thought. He was actually somewhat saddened by her death, as he had liked her as a cat. Fogfox nudged the cat beside him. "What even happened?" he asked, his tone more curious than actually concerned or even sad.

(Hmm... I'll vote for Sweetdrop.)

She snorted, not wanting to believe all of the cat's baffling. But, inside, she felt they were right. Honeypaw began to put her ear next to the deputy's heart. Nothing. She began to take her paw and feel it. Nothing. Snowstorm was dead. It seemed like everyone else believed her death except for her. She sighed and began to push her body to examine other parts of her. "No scratch marks, must've been something that pushed her in." Surely a badger or fox wouldn't have done it, they would surely leave at least one claw mark. As Honeypaw began to sniff her body, she found that there was only Riverclan scent. There wasn't anything else that was stale either, just plain Riverclan. "A cat had done it..."
