bo unearthed her hands from the soil...
hey there... she mumbled to the 3 long worms that writhed among the churned dirt.
it had freshly rained, and while it was still sprinkling bo decided to take a walk on
the dirt path behind her house. she often surveyed here for slugs, snails and worms
if it had rained recently. she collected the worms, putting them in a small velvet
drawstring bag. she then hooked it on a strap around her waist. don't worry, i'm not
going to hurt you guys. she whispered as she felt the worms seizing in their pocket.
continuing on the search, she turned rocks, moved branches and had gathered 4 snails,
1 centipede, and 2 slugs. she put them all in individual velvet bags around her waist.
bo started home, and picked up multiple pinecones on the way.
when she arrived home, she emptied her findings on the old wooden desk in her room.
placing them in a wide tupperware container, so they didn't escape, she walked to the
kitchen. under the sink were small mason jars, with pre-poked holes in the tops. bo
took these back to her room. alright, guys, welcome to your new homes... she told the
animals. noticing the absence of the centipede, she whipped her head under the desk,
immediately discovering it crawling around her paws. picking it up with 2 fingers, she
returned it to the container. pesky boy, aren't you? she commented, taking a slug and
putting it in a jar, along with a mushroom and a leaf. she continued putting the animals
into jars along with food. the animals she had multiple of were let go out of her back door.
after she had finished putting the excess outside, she took irving out of his tank. he looked
more dismal than usual. his grimace decorated his solemn face, making bo frown in disappoint.
irving, what's the matter? she asked the toad. he croaked in response and hopped to the left.
oh well... bo thought to herself. she put on classical, irving's favorite. bo started writing, and
the gramophone eventually stopped, and she found herself petting the toad's bumpy head.
the grimace was gone, and it was more of a poker face. the story she was working on was
nearly complete. bo smiled and put the writing up, she'd continue it tomorrow after lunch
"When you're finally gone, it's the first breath after playing hide-and-seek, when you realize the seeker never came to look for you. It's relief. It's disappointment. It's the sound of my heart falling in the grass as I run through the trees back to my house. You were never looking for me, and I was a damn fool for hiding so long. Squinting at the sun reminds me of the first time I told you I loved you.
When you're finally gone, it's the first breath after playing your game. I'm not hiding anymore and for once, the sun makes me grateful for your absence."

Her toads sit safely on top of her satchel or on her shoulders but aren't allowed near customers in fear that they'll lick the customers fingers off. Leona travels through many forests to sell her home-made story books and remedies and often uses her toads as inspiration in each story she writes. Her satchel is large and is able to fit the remedies and storybooks while the crystals hang from the strap, causing them to jingle and shine as she moves from destination to destination.
Her toads wrote:Leona found her toads while she was walking through the forest one day and decided to sit down and keep writing a fairy tale. Within her own little book, she wrote a paragraph describing how hot some eggs were, and a character's reaction to burning their tongue on the eggs. She let out a loud laugh, but it sounded raspy, almost like the croaking of a frog. She instantly shut her mouth, remembering that not talking for extended periods of time and suddenly being loud without clearing her throat can result in her voice becoming a bit raspy. She sat there with her hand over her mouth, automatically embarrassed at how ugly her laugh sometimes sounds due to having no one to talk to in order to keep her voice from losing itself. She let herself get upset about how alone she was for a second and how bad her voice and laugh would sound at times as the put her head into her hands. She soon heard a small croak, then another, then one last one. She thought someone was coming towards her and mocking her laugh, so she turned around defensively but was very confused when no one was there. She sat back down, thinking she was going insane only to notice the 3 round toads sitting in front of her. They all looked up at her and she smiled, realizing that she shared a laugh with all 3 of them. She eventually got up to leave after staring at these toads for a bit and finishing a paragraph of her story but she heard desperate croaking behind her. She turned around to see all three following her and she smiled as she quickly scooped them up. She eventually named them Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather after the 3 fairies in one of her favorite fairy tales: Sleeping beauty. After that, she no longer felt lonely or embarrassed about her voice, nor had to worry about her voice becoming raspy after extended periods of not speaking. Now she had 3 new friends to constantly speak to.
