Phoenix got to his paws. "No-o-o," the idiot joked, nudging his friend, "I'm staying behind because I'm in love with the river. I want to jump in again and again."
"You know better than that," Solara said.
"Mom!" Phoenix exclaimed. "I was being sarcastic!"
Solara furrowed her brows. "What is 'sarcastic'?"
Laughing, Phoenix ran off in the east direction. "Come on guys! We have to run away from my crazy mom! Nobody who doesn't understand sarcasm is a real wolf! It's a ghost!"

Trill laughed and pursued Phoenix. "I'm going to get you!" She called, tagging his shoulder. "Come get me!" In a burst of energy, she sprinted ahead at top speed.

"Aaaaaaahhh! It's a puma!" Phoenix raised his voice an octave and legit screamed. He sounded like a female pup who had just touched the most disgusting spider. "Aaaaah! The puma got me! Ack-"
He pretended to dramatically die, flailing around on the ground. Then he rose up and started staggering after Trill with a lumbering gait. "Uhhhhhhh.... I'm a zombie wolf... you better run!"

Trill squealed and ran faster. "You'll never get me zombie wolf!" She cried. "You can try!" She ran faster, laughing.

"I want your braaains!" Phoenix moaned. Then he started running and he thought for a second. "Hmm, I already died four times, does that mean I actually am a zombie wolf?"
Before he could even catch up to Trill, he broke through the tree cover and found himself in the plains.
"Wow," he exclaimed, sitting down and just staring at everything. "This is the best place to play chase! We should have a game of manhunt between everyone!"
Soon, the others started to catch up.
"Oooh yay!" Maggot started to bound around on his paws. "This is awesome!"
Churl wagged his tail once, and Felon's stony expression didn't change. Solara watched Trill carefully. Recreant snarled, hackles rising as he stared at the sky.
"What?" Phoenix barked, and he looked up too. "Aaah!"
Huge birds were circling overhead. They were high in the sky, Phoenix couldn't make out any details, but they would be definitely enormous if they came down here.
"Let's keep going, and try to stay together," Solara advised.

Trill yelped at the sight of the birds and moved in with close with the pack. She longed to run, the ground gave her strength and speed but the birds were big. She walked, sticking close with the pack even the her paws itched to run. In her nervousness the ground shook in fear. She yelped, embarrassed. "Sorry! I get nervous around birds." She said, cheeks flushed. The ground stopped as she swallowed her fear and kept walking.

Solara moved closer to Trill protectively, and Felon began to growl in warning towards the birds. Phoenix though, he laughed a little when he realized something.
"It isn't funny," Churl told him. "These birds may be dangerous."
"No, I was just thinking..." Phoenix chuckled. "You get nervous around birds... but I was named after a giant fire bird! Does that mean I'm scary?"
"You wish," Felon told him.
Maggot yelped, looking up at the sky. "Guys, what should we do! I think the birds are getting bigger!"
"Wait." Phoenix looked up at the sky. "They're not getting bigger... they're flying closer to us."

Trill looked in horror and the birds ascended closer. The ground shook again but this time it shot up and hit the birds! The birds dropped down and landed at Trills feet, dead. She yelped and jumped away. "Umm..." She said. "Sorry?" She shuffled closer and sniffed the birds. "Ew! They smell bad!" She wrinkled her nose.

Phoenix let out a cheer and walked forward, approaching the obviously dead birds fearfully. "You got them! They won't be having me for breakfast, but we'll have a nice roast chicken-"
"Ugh disgusting!" he jumped back, crashing into a snarling Recreant.
"Watch it!" Recreant snapped his jaws at Phoenix, who ignored him completely.
"It might be the only source of food for a while," Felon said. "We should at least try it."
"Should I test the food?" asked Phoenix, pretending to be all brave. He was actually hoping they would say no.

Trill shook her head. "No don't try it." She said looking at it. "I can." She sniffed it once more then took a bite. She spat out immediately. "Yuck! It safe I think but it tastes terrible!" She backed away from the bird and bumped into Phoenix. "Oops sorry!" Instead she side stepped but then bumped into Solara. "Sorry!" Her cheeks flushed, embarrassed at her clumsiness.
