What's this worth

I've been going by the following logic for my trades (with some compensation for demand, personal value, etc), but I'm not sure if it's actually fair or not. Can I get some opinions?

"A pet from the previous year is worth two pets of the same value from the following year. Trading up, two or three pets of a lesser rarity equal one pet of a greater rarity."

i.e. An uncommon pet from 2010 would be worth two 2011 Uncommon pets. At the same time, a 2010 uncommon would be worth four to six 2011 Common pets.

Is this fair?
