Hi i was wondering if anyone has advice for getting my cat Igor to start drinking water from his dish instead of out of the sink or toilet haha, he seems to be only interested in the water out of the tap or in the toilet and i rarely see him drink from his dish. I clean and change his water daily so I can't see it being the bowl itself...any advice is appreciated thank-you

My oldest cat used to drink out of the toilet all the time. Eventually I talked everyone else in the house into keeping the lid closed, and she's been content to drink from a bowl since then.
My youngest, on the other hand, has never had a problem drinking from the bowl. The thing to note here is that all cats are different. Some might do things one way, while others do things completely different. It's really just an experimental process, trying to find what works for your cat. I agree with everyone else though, start with a water fountain and see if that works. You could also try one of the bowls with the jug attached to it. My cats just played with it because the water would come flooding in when it was empty enough, but since your cat likes running water, it might work better for you. c:

Animals prefer toilet water because it's cooler than the water in their bowls, and it gets refreshed more often. Naya used to drink out of our toilet all the time, until I bought a pet fountain for her. Now she has no interest in toilet water, but I'm constantly refilling the fountain.

Cats also instinctively avoid drinking from water sources that are close to their food sources for fear of contamination. Try moving her water bowl to a location away from where you feed him. I would also suggest refilling the bowl more than once a day, since cats don't like stagnant water. Before we got the fountain, we refreshed their water at least twice a day.

thank-you all im definitely going to look into a fountain, i would be fine with letting him drink toilet water if i wasn't such a germaphobe haha.

Pumpkin is finally home! She's settling in pretty well so far. My dog absolutely loves her, won't let her out of her sight. My other two cats are taking a little longer to warm up, though. But that's to be expected, I suppose.
She spent some time playing and exploring the house, now she's curled up next to me, sound asleep. <3

Hello everyone! Here is my newest little kitty, Dexter! He's one of my bottle babies that I've decided is a foster fail. He's 6 months old and the size of my 2 year old cats, he's gonna be huge.

for christmas, i plan to get my babies an automatic litter box. i've been wanting one for the longest time, i just haven't had the funds to splurge on one yet.

i just wanted to ask if anyone knows of the best one to get? i don't want to get an extremely fancy $500 one, but i do hear bad things about the cheaper ones. i don't want to get one and it not work well or have it break on me. my main concerns are just about controlling the odor. i live in a small 1 bedroom apartment with my husband and even when tucking the litterbox away in the cornor in the laundry room, the smell travels quickly. what automatic boxes are best in performance, durability, and odor control? :>

This one apparently works pretty well. Your cats might get freaked out by it at first, but they'll get used to it. As far as odor control, I would recommend a cat litter by Purina called "Small Spaces." I use it for my two, now three, cats and it works well at odor control. There's even a version with Glade odor control in it.

1. Do long haired cats need baths? If so, what products/soaps are good?

2. Does anyone have any brush and/or comb recommendations for a longhaired cat/kitten? Do kittens need different brushes than adult cats?

It really depends on the coat type and the breed. I had a long haired ragdoll mixbreed and he got knots almost constantly, even with brushing. But my ex had a cat with long fur that never got a single mat. Denser long hair tends to mat easier than thinner long hair, generally. Some breeds of long haired cats need baths regularly, while others manage on their own. If you need to bathe though, try to go for a more sensitive shampoo formula just to be safe.
As for brushes, you need something with long bristles that aren't too close together. If you can find a brush that's double-sided, though, I would say go with that, since you can use the long bristle side to brush the loose fur to the surface, then use the shorter bristles to collect the fur. Kittens tend to have more sensitive skin than adults, so if you're getting a kitten definitely steer clear of the brushes with the sharp metal bristles. Brushes with metal bristles that have little balls on the ends of the bristles are usually fine, though.

This is just from my experience, though. I've had cats my whole life but I am by no means an expert. If any of my info is wrong, I have no problem being corrected. c:
