Color suggestion, and you're gonna kill me Syd. XP

Blue roam varnish with minimal tobino. Lol

I've always wanted to see one of these colorations. Hahaha I'm not even sure if it exists.

so, here comes caf with another outrageous and totally unsolicited suggestion for the sole purpose of making your life harder. because who doesn't love those?
kidding, i just pulled out my veterinary handbooks (also known as my children) and had an idea that might improve the realism of the sim (hopefully without making your life that much harder? everything is up to interpretation).

i know diseases and vaccinations and all didn't go over very well, but i've seen many a case of injury mentioned in the sim and have used a few genetic disorders in stories and such, and figured that perhaps a very simple injury feature could be implemented. in short, the 'random events' in foaling and competing would have real-world injuries attached. perhaps injuries could also take horses out of competition for a couple of weeks, though from a player's perspective i can see how that could get frustrating very quickly. if needed, i am more than willing to write up a full-on "RVEC veterinary handbook" and research the costs, likelihoods, predispositions, everything. seriously, i love writing medical papers, it's an embarrassingly fun pastime for me. i've made a simple list of possible ailments for your consideration (organized by type and severity in descending order bc it's 11 pm and i should be doing my homework):

competition injuries
- muscle strain
- hoof crack
- carpal canal syndrome
- popped splint bones
- tendon bow
- stress fracture
- ligament injury

foaling issues
- red bag foaling
- late pregnancy colic
- developmental oddities (crookedness)
- bone spavin (usually coupled with developmental oddities)
- dystocia (difficult foaling)

genetic issues
- roaring (as will be described in caf's take on the case of #84)
- narcolepsy (as described in the case of #75 The Flip Side, though his was caused by an injury)
- kissing spine
- HYPP (possibly not because it's sometimes lethal?)
- lethal white (again, maybe not?)
- HERDA (why are all the horse genetic diseases lethal this is awful)

(note - these genetic disorders could usher in the possibility of genetic testing? or if you don't want to go through the work of finding genes i can always assign random arbitrary percentages of chance to them aha)

(also you absolutely do not have to use all of these i'm being ridiculous)

either way, it's late and i'm tired and i'm not making any sense, but feel free to discuss any of this with me!
also, if you're looking for a really nice veterinary handbook, "The Horse Doctor Is In" by Brent Kelley is an absolutely fantastic one. it's not all-inclusive (if you're looking for every disease in the book, "Horse Owner's Veterinary Handbook" does a nice job. buy the latest edition), but it's actually crazy informative and a strangely good read. i don't think i've gone more than six months in the past few years without reading it through at least once. not to mention Dr. Kelley is incredibly entertaining; if i could move to Kentucky i'd be taking classes under him day and night.
enough blabbering, anyway. great job so far with the sim, Syd!

overcaffienated., unfortunately I can't go into as much detail as I'd like to in this post because 1) it's pretty late and 2) I'm dealing with a significant amount of pain for some reason that is incredibly distracting while writing ^^' but the gist of what I mean to say is that I love the veterinarian stuff and would so love to implement it into the game <3 Unfortunately I don't know that I'll be able to handle too terribly much more on top of what I've already got -- so if you'd like to be the "official" RVEC veterinarian, I'd love to work everything out with you so that we can have a real injury/disease/genetic disorder system going on ^^ Just let me know -- and if not, I'll see what I can do anyways! c:

i understand, i'm sorry you're feeling unwell! sending good thoughts your way <3

hey, if you'd like me to take on the job i'd be more than happy to! i can't promise perfection by any means, but i would do my best. i do understand if you'd prefer to just run the sim yourself though. it was just a suggestion, by no means do i expect you to implement every last facet of the equestrian world into this game! yeah, if you ever need another hand i will definitely do my best to do my part!

Thank you, friend ^^ Hopefully I can just sleep it off all right cx

Personally, if that's something you'd be actively wanting to do, I'd be all for it! Of course, I know a big part of the fun of the sim is being removed from its inner workings, so please don't feel at all obligated to do so ^^ It's entirely up to you -- I'll sleep on it tonight and see what I could do anyways without having to recruit anyone c: Just let me know if that's ever something you'd actively like to do! What I could do otherwise perhaps is set up a vet clinic and require periodic checks and vaccinations so that I could manage it that way -- we'll see <3

if you wanted to do vaccinations, that'd be neat! i have heard that it's extremely difficult to manage, however, so honestly i would totally understand if that would be too much - i know you have a lot on your plate. my intention was to make it as uncomplicated as possible; really what i was trying to propose in my half-dead state was that instead of, for example, "____ sustained an injury," the message would become more specific; "_____ suffered a knee fracture during competition." in other words, nothing changes besides the message; the purpose of the "handbook" would just be for entertainment, and perhaps standardizing the prices. same goes for breedings.
i can definitely see how genetic disorders would be a challenge, and i can totally understand not wanting to deal with that mess <3
as for the official vet thing, i wouldn't really mind either way. if you ever need a spare hand to help out, i'm more than happy to help, but there's definitely no urgency on that front.

Thank you, .Survivor. c:

I've actually been wanting to do the whole genetic disorders thing for a while, but yikes -- it's all a lot to think on! I could certainly see the whole wait x weeks before competing again thing -- we'll definitely see how that works out! c: Thanks for suggesting all that! <3

Hi all! Just wanted to ask -- what kind of horses would you all like to see go up next? Should I just continue on with the Around the World event or put that on pause for a bit to make more horses you guys are interested in, and if so, what horses would you want to see? Should we do some sort of color event? A mass rescue? An auction? A pony event? Let me know so I can start getting them up and getting them adopted! <3
