Eva wanted to call for him, but it turned into a curse. "Fine, you can go! I don't care!" She yelled, getting up and turning her back to the direction he went. A heavy sigh shaking her body, she sat down again. She didn't ask for this. For any of it. She was there to help him, and he didn't want her help? Eva couldn't even comprehend how anyone could be ungrateful like that. She hated the weight that hung upon her shoulders every moment Logan was away. She leaned her forehead on her knees, bringing them to her chest. Stupid life. Stupid dog. She couldn't help worrying about him, but she didn't look for him, determined not to break her promise. She desperately wanted one thing - to stop caring. But she was born for different things, and that angered her.

Logan soon enough got tired, sitting next to a small cave. Little did he knew that the cave was the home of an adult cougar, waking up to start hunting. Logan's fur stood on edge as his ears heard small footprints. Thinking it was Evangeline, he mind linked her. "Stop following me." No response came through. The fear of the unknown went through mind as he sniffed the air, a very musky, weird smell that was very near him. This caused him to freeze, standing in front of the cave opening. A quick snarl was heard before the wolf was tackled from the side, both animals tumbling. Logan was more powerful than his adversary, with him on top. For that split second, he discovered who his attacker was. A cougar, looking to make a quick bite of him. Usually, cougars take the element of surprise, killing their prey before they could react. This one was probably desperate to get prey, cougar attacks on wolves were rare. Despite this, they continued to fight, Logan trying to bite the neck for a quick end. The cougar pushed him off before that happen, both of them on four paws. They began to circle, growls and snarls from both of them.

She groaned. 'I'm not following you!' She yelled through the link. A few minutes after getting no response, the curiousity got the better of her and she reached out to him. 'Logan? What's going on?'

The two predators went at it again, this time Logan striking first. He missed and the cougar made him pay for his mistake, biting him in his lower left leg. The wolf yelped in pain, blood starting to ooze out. Logan withstanded the pain, making a revenge strike. As they fought, Logan's wound got worse, making him weaker. His stamina started to waver as well, his panting becoming more and more intense.

eva shivered unvoluntarily. something was going on. 'logan, please,' she linked, 'i'm worried sick. i'm your guardian, don't shut me out like this.'
she dusted off her pants and straightened up, glancing around. fear slowly trickled into her system as she started walking in the direction she guessed logan went. she knew she could track him down by the link without any trouble, but it might cost her another fight and expanding of the tension already evident between them. it sounded stupid to her, but she didn't want to lose him. he was the only person she knew here so far.
she gritted her teeth as another shiver ran down her spine. something was terribly wrong, she could feel it in her bones - the different kind of wrong, the one that you just know. she couldn't quite detect what, but at the moment, even that hunch was enough to get her up on her feet.

The cougar took the advantage, pinning the wolf down. Logan's furious thrashings were futile as it bit into his soft neck, a howl of pain coming from him. His cries for pain soon got weaker and weaker as the blood made his underside red, spilling to the floor. The cougar stepped back, watching him closely, knowing that it won. The wolf's yelps turning to croaks as his vision started to fade. 'Eva......I'm scared....h-help.....I'm scared.' He mind-linked, fear coursing through as he lain, his tail the only thing that was moving.

her eyes snapped wide open as she processed logan's message. fear coursed through her as she ran, navigating by the link. 'hang on in there, logie,' she told him, picking up her pace. as she neared the den, she spotted the cougar circling logan's limp body. instantly, her hand snaked to her boot strap, praying they didn't remove the dagger during the transport. she drew the weapon and approached the predator as silently as she could. the cougar, however, sensed her and turned around before eva could react. eva dodged its heavy paw with a hiss and tripped over a stone, almost falling. before she managed to regain her balance, the cougar pierced the skin on her back with its claws. eva screamed and turned around furiously. she ran into the large cat with a mad exspression and, ignoring its teeth biting into her shoulder, stabbed the dagger in its stomach, then throat. after a few more vicious stabs, the animal's fightings ceased. eva managed a weak smile and glanced at her shoulder. the wound was quite deep, deeper than the one on her back. other than that, she had a few minor scratches. she ran up to logan, tears from pain and blood soaking her cheeks. "logan? logan! talk to me, damn it! please. please."

The wolf was on its side, motionless and unresponsive. His tail flicked weakly as a blood puddle starred to form around Logan. His wounds on his soft throat were bleeding the most, making his snow white underside turn bright red. The wolf couldn't speak, his barks or yips of help were unable to help him. 'E-eva......' He mind-linked to her, knowing that he was a goner.. "T-tell....my family....." He stopped, his vision fading quickly. Logan regretted fighting the cougar. It was clever, injuring him so it could get the kill easier. He hasn't noticed Evangeline, thinking he was about to become this cougar's food for a couple of days.
