Hauntling ( T E G U ) - won by skylark

Postby ophanimera » Sun Oct 16, 2016 1:44 pm

H A U N T L I N G S

        "These creatures aren't your friends or pets...
However, should you win their loyalty, they may serve you well...."

Hauntlings are a group of spirits attached to or stored in inanimate objects. They always assume animal-like upper-halves (potentially including humans) and have clawed hands with eyes in the palms.

Hauntlings have no moral compass and learn by example. If you tell them something is OK to do, they will do it, regardless of what it is. They are very impressionable, so their controller (the person who carries them around by their vessel) has a huge impact on what they believe, do or say.

The more powerful they are, the more time they can spend in their spirit manifestations OR the the farther they can go from their containment vessel.

Hauntlings are a closed species. You may not make your own or remove the signature from the adopt.

Good evening...

I bring to you a piece of driftwood that has been inhabited by a Hauntling.
It is not a strong spirited Hauntling, for it can only leave its vessel for a brief period of time.
However, when it does appear, it can assume the partial form of a tegu.

In order to win the favor of this Hauntling, fill out the form below...

Code: Select all
username;
the spirit's true name;
tell the tegu a frightening story about something that goes bump in the night;
draw this spirit (one piece only, may be a portrait or fullbody, with or without background);

Ends 11:59 pm CST, November 30th, 2016

A brief extension may be given (no longer than 10 days), if more than 4 or more people need one.

tell the tegu a frightening story about something that goes bump in the night
The howling of the wind whipped louder and louder through the cracks in the windows as the rain poured down from the sky. Of course, it was only when you were checking out your books from Jourdemayne's quaint library that the storm finally errupted. You could hear thunder beginning to roar in the distance. You would need to wait it out.
"I'm terribly sorry," she called softly to you from accross the room, her tone staying monotonous.
You didn't mind staying for a while as the weather cleared, but there were a few among you that did.

Jourdemayne; being known for her dabbling in the occult, often let various creatures and things live with her in her home. And it was one very reactive spirit that whimpered and feared of the roaring thunder; one that camouflaged very well in to her wood-paneled home. It appeared just as a mere driftwood log; but only for a moment.

There was a sudden burst in the room, as large waves of a mystical pink smoke brewed from the log. In reaction to the storm; the well-sized, colorful reptilian apparition glew brightly in the dim lit hut and sought comfort. Jourdemayne quickly made her way to the creature, consoling it by murmering to it and seemingly trying to pet it- despite it only appearing to be an illusion.

"This spirit is so sensitive. It has continued to worry itself all day." She explained to you. "Would you like to try to comfort it?"
Well- this wasn't an everyday sight, and you found yourself very intruiged by Jourdemayne's possessions. You decided it would be foolish to pass up the offer, so you cautiously approached the creature beside Jourdemayne and greeted it with a gentle "pet".
It was certainly an intimidating looking beast. One with strange, sharp features- floating limbs, and eyes. But it seemed unafraid of you. You assumed it was because of Jourdemayne's powerful presence. And so you tried to return the friendliness it showed you.

"Petting" and admiring it, you thought of what you could possibly do to ease the unnerved spirit. You smiled at the openness it displayed towards you- then the thunder cracked and rumbled again. The spirit whimpered more, and lit up brightly because of its emotions. You began to speak to it.
"When you hear the roaring of the thunder, it is only a simple bump in the night. You are safe under these rooves, where the storm monster can't get you! There's no need to be afraid."
You paused as the creature stared curiously at you. It no longer cried. You pondered for a moment if it could understand English, then shrugged to yourself. Jourdemayne smiled at you.
You continued to tell stories of "the storm monster" until the spirit faded into serenity and the storm came to an end.
Jourdemayne thanked you for your kindness, and you left with the books you obtained from her library. The memory of the mythical dragon creature would leave an imprint on your mind.
You would certainly return.
