She cocked her head upwards, though still keeping the new cat in her line of sight, and stared at the birch tree. She was confused for a moment, standing with her jaw parted. What was the cat trying to tell her. She could feel a slight annoyance prickling at her fur; if this was some game he was playing, she didn't have the time for it. She knew that she had little time to return with the intruder before her absence would become suspicious. Whitewater was about to comment on this before the realization dawned on her. "Oh! You're trying to tell me your name?" she questioned, her eyes widening. "Is your name Leaf?" But then she wondered why he had singled out a birch tree. There were plenty of leaves around them, but he had picked the birch to draw her attention to. Smiling slightly, she tried again. "No, it's Birch isn't it?"

Birch nodded happily. Then he pointed to her and tilted his head to ask for her name. He had heard of clan names and how they were more complicated than loner names.

"My name? It's Whitewater." she continued bluntly. It was odd to speak such a one-sided conversation. Anyone nearby listening would think she was talking to herself... she hoped none of her clanmates were near enough. Realizing she had been lost in talking at this newcomer, Birch, she shook her head and bounded around him to the prey she had dropped, and quite frankly forgotten, talking as she went. "But that doesn't matter right now. I should be escorting you back to camp now, come on." She paused, thinking for a second, and tossed one of her squirrels to him. Picking the other one up in her own jaw she said, "take that, the clan will welcome you quicker if you have prey to offer. Don't eat it though!" Purring warmly, she turned to look at him expectantly. Then, with a sudden quickness, she started back towards camp, calling over her shoulder to him as she wove around trees, "keep up!" As she went, she picked up the scent of one of her clanmates, Soul. Inwardly, knowing the warrior's short temper, she hoped he would not try to stop her from bringing Birch into camp.

Birch quickly picked up the squirrel and ran after Whitewater until he was walking besides her. It was tempting to just drop the prey and eat it, but he could also smell a clan cat nearby.

She flinched slightly at his hostility. This must be the healer Echo was talking about. Maka thought, taking in the information and calmed herself. ❝I am sorry for disturbing you. I am Maka, and I heard a river and rushed towards it. Are you Littlefang?❞ She asked, wanting to confirm it to herself. She was surprised how she felt around him. Maka didn't know if she was interested to see him, glad, or.... anything really.

She walked back to camp after a nice
walk through the snow. The ice on the trees made the forest look beautiful, but it didn't help how her longish fur
dragged her. Echo walked back to camp, leaped on her stone, laid down and watched the clan.

Whitewater took grateful note of the fact that Soul seemed to be to deep into whatever he was doing that the passing by of one of his clan mates and a new cat seemed to have gone unnoticed by him. That was good. She respected her clanmate, but wasn't sure she wanted to run into him with Birch on her heels. After a short time, Whitewater was faced with the camp entrance, and led the way in. Looking around, she became aware that Echo, her leader, was in camp. "I guess I should talk to her." the young white cat said allowed, more to herself than anything, but then turned to Birch as if she had just remembered he was with her. "You can wait with the squirrel over there," Whitewater told him, flicking her tail towards one of the closest walls of the camp. "Winterclan's leader will want to talk to you, but until then it's best if you don't wander off by yourself." Padding away, she felt doubt creeping up her spine. What if she had done the wrong thing by showing this newcomer kindness and bringing him here? Should she have come back first? Looking over her shoulder towards where Birch stood, she felt torn. He didn't seem harmless, but her clanmates might feel otherwise. With a new nervousness to her pace and her ears flat against her head, she approached Echo. "I found a cat near our camp this morning, Echo." Whitewater said as she jerked her head in the direction of where Birch was sitting. She began to pace slowly back and forth, her insides squirming, as she struggled with how to tell her leader what had happened.

Echo narrowed her eyes. ❝Who are you, and why where you near my camp?❞ She demanded, looking intimidating. She could look like a very vicious rouge if she wanted too.

Birch walked to the wall and placed the squirrel down in front of him. He watched Whitewater speak to Echo and noticed how the warrior seemed nervous. Then, a thought popped into his head. Did he even want to join the clan? His chances of survival were better, and it wasn't like he had better options, so if that was Whitewater meant when she said her leader could arrange something, he'd join the clan. Suddenly, he flinched as he heard Echo say something to him. He pointed to himself, then to a birch tree.
