Hey guys! I do not own a cat but I thought it would be nice to chat with you guys! I used to work with a male Sumatran tiger named Berani (hence the username) and I know its not the kinda cats you are talking about but he was technically a cat right? Anyway Berani passed away last year and now I work (briefly and unpaid) with:
8 White lions, 3 Lions, very occasionally with 2 snow leopards, 3 Sumatran Tigers and 2 Mixed Tigers (Unknown mixed species, we think they are Bengal or Sumatran X South Chinese). I used to work with Cougars and a Bengal tiger, and Berani of course.
I have also looked after 2 cats before. I own a dog, and I don't think she goes well with cats even though I really want a cat!
haha I think this will spice this thread up a bit. Big cats! yeah!
I can remove this post or not join in with this chat if you want to try and keep it on the topic of domestic cats not Big and wild cats

Lol, 6 is not senior age for cats, they can live up to 20 years. My oldest is 13 with no signs of old age yet other than a wee bit of arthris in her backend
Honey, it's in the stars
And you're my everything from here to Mars
And every word I say I truly mean
Dear darling, I hope I'm being clear
'Cause there's no one like you on earth
That can be my universe

Yesterday my Boyfriend and I decided to adopt a Kitten. After asking around and doing some online research we have found one we both like and interested in. Her name is Phoebe and she is 5 months old. She's currently living in a foster home but the shelter that pulled her/saved her is Another Chance for Animals.
Looking at her picture she looks like a Russian Blue (A thick solid grey cat with a blue tint in it) with Hazel colored eyes. The shelter gave me more information and they have told me that she has been spayed, Fiv/felv negative, vaccinated and is micro-chipped. Also, she came to the shelter very young with no mother. That itself is was worries me some. They had to hand feed her till she was old enough to eat solid food by herself.
Now I've own cats before but this was when I was young so I don't have 100% understating. My boyfriend on the other hand has never owned a cat mostly because his family was allergic and wasn't able to have one. We are waiting for the foster home owner to call us back to make an appointment to meet her and hopefully take her home with us. I'm a little bit skeptical about what food brands to get her (and that is limited do to her still being a young kitten). I know we aren't suppose to talk about a cat's diet on here, but some ideas through PM would be appreciated.

If you use the search function, there have been people talking about which brands are good and which are bad. As far as my understanding goes, you just make sure that most of the food content is actual meat, not just.. yknow, other stuff. Since the meat is what they need.
As for generally feeding a young cat - it depends on what they like, really, so a bit of trial and error might be necessary. When I found my kitten (he was around 6 weeks old), he could eat pate food on his own, but it took a good while for him to start eating actual pieces. I also gave him dry food with a little water on it. Now he's about 6 months old, completely indifferent to wet food, aside from like, one brand, but loves dry food and treats. So basically, I suggest buying from different brands at first and checking what the kitten even likes to eat in general.

I noticed that there was discussion about the age of cats.. well, my two eldest cats are half/indoor and half/outdoor and they're fourteen. My Grandad's cat was sixteen before he passed away and my Aunt's cat is eighteen. It all depends on the individual itself.
Anyway, talking about diets, I would do a little bit of inspection into what you want to feed your cat. But it might take a bit of time for him to get used to it. We started Arty with some milk twice a day and dry food as well (can't remember exactly when and what we fed him, my memory isn't too good, haha). Some cats are quite picky, others just eat whatever is put in front of them. So it may take a while to find what your kitten will happily eat.
If he isn't eating at all after three or so days, get him to the vet as soon as possible. Try not to overfeed your kitten and remember to tailor your cat's diet to the individual itself, not whatever you find online - you know your cat, a bunch of random people on the internet don't!
Good luck with your kitten, I'm sure he's a cutie :3

I just hope she Isn't too picky. I'll see what the foster home has been feeding her and do some research on it and see what is in the food. Same with the treats.
I was reading some of the earlier post and notice something I haven't think about before or have seen anyone do around me. I'm talking about raw feeding that is. Do they need to be a certain age to start that? Like I mention before she is 5 months old. And how much do I give her at a time?
I hope to start harness training her too but I'll have to wait to get her first so I can get one that'll fit her properly. I'm slightly afraid of doing it this time of year though, it's being a bit chilly out and there are mean people out there who hurt cats during Halloween (especially black cats.. My Mom's cat Ozzy almost had a incident one year.)

^ You can start raw feeding your cat from the moment you get her! Given she's young, you can go cold turkey and start her on a balanced diet straight away c: You will need a minimum of four different proteins, and should feed in a ratio of 80:10:10 of meat:organ:bone- at least, I think it's the same for cats as dogs, just that she will need food higher in taurine, so your dark meats and things like heart and gizzard. There's loads of pages for fb! I recommend Prey Model Raw Fed Cats.

That sounds great. The bone part i'm a little confused of, but i'm sure I'll learn. I did fine a site that talk about a lot of the raw meat and which are typically best at certain ages. The same with what kinds of bones to give them.
The only problem I have is that I don't really see deer meat. My step-dad and a few of my friends are deer hunters and I thought it would be a good idea if they could get me some scraps among other things from the deer. So is it okay to feed a Kitten deer meat/bones? I don't think the organs matter all than much, but correct me if i'm wrong.
