Fawnrunner could feel it, the heaviness in the air. She could feel it coming even before she excited the den. She desperately missed Cloversky and Firefeather. Their absense made the the den feel cold, she didn't like the added space to stretch her legs. She remembered when she had gotten the apprentice den to herself for a week or more. That had been a big deal to the young she-cat. As an shy, only child, the short time she had to herself was amazing before the next litter of kits earned their apprentice names. This was different, the warriors' den was made for a large number of cats and the circumstances were so different from then, Fawnrunner had barely slept a wink. Being less than half asleep, she bursted upwards and leaped, although awkwardly, over Rainfeather. Screeching to a halt, leaving shallow skid marks in the dirt.
"No, no, no, no, no..." Fawnrunner whispered to no one but herself. She could quite clearly see Heatherpaw, the young tom laying there, brocken. Knowing exactly who Heatherpaw's mother was, and being deputy, Fawnrunner felt it was her responsibility to alert the leader of the most recent tragedy. Popping very quickly into the leader's den and finding Frostystar not there. Very quickly following the scent trail of the leader, Fawnrunner discovered the body of her drowned leader. Frostystar was an accomplished swimmer, as are all Riverclan cats, this was deliberate. Frostystar must've discovered her son first.
All this was hours ago. Fawnrunner had told Rainfeather he would be the new deputy. Sitting at the very edge of camp she could see both the bodies of Frostystar and her son, that tom-cat approached her. She bristled at his question. "I am not yet leader. As soon as I can, Antleaf and I will travel to the moonstone where I will receive my nine lives. Until then my name continues to be Fawnrunner." Her voice was stern and serious. Yet as she was, Fawnrunner was now the highest power within the clan, and these latest deaths could not go unpunished...
