Maybe you should not guess ?.. I mean you can ask them with the BIGGEST pet they're or with .After you get that pet and show your responcibility you then tell them this "See I can take of the at !"- Maybe it will work ?

Sometimes you have to accept that you can't have another pet right now. Sounds like your family has quite a lot of pets already. You might not like it but if your parents don't want more animals in their house it's up to them :c
Good news is that you'll be able to get all the pets you want when you live somewhere else : D
Maybe spend some extra time with the pets you already have? Show long-term responsibility when taking care of your dog and chickens and stick with one pet that you really want instead of changing your mind in the hopes that they'll agree to anything.
You cannot eat love, nor buy a horse with it, nor warm your halls on a cold night

As many have suggested, you could try looking after the dog, since they're "larger" as such and closest to cats, pretty much. You could start by giving the dog a brush, maybe a bath, feeding him, taking him for a walk. Things like that to show how responsible you are.
But as @Lonin said, sometimes you may have to accept the fact that your parents don't want another animal. But if you show long-term responsibility, they may be more willing to look into it.

It took me a while to get my guinea pigs, but I showed responsibility by looking after the remaining guinea pig (the other one passed away, and this guinea pig was becoming rather depressed and withdrawn, so I wanted to get some friends for him). I looked after him and pretty soon we were home with two more guinea pigs, which was rather a surprise, to be fair..

Anyway, it does depend on your parents. My parents are easily convinced (I seem to be very good at persuading.. two guinea pigs and a cat later..), but your parents might not be. Secretly, your parents may want a cat - my mum spent two months saying "no way" to more guinea pigs, and she was the one who decided to get two instead of one.
Again, it does depend on your parents. But some research and responsibility should do the trick =)

I have four cats. Patches, Ruby, Max and Skittles. We got patches when she was a kitten and she kept trying to play with our old cat so we got Max and Ruby as playmates for her. They all became friends pretty fast and got along really well. When they were about 3 or 4 we got Skittles. Skittles is a very dominant cat. He quickly became alpha and close friends with Ruby and Max. I don't know what happened, but as soon as we got him Ruby started hunting Patches. Patches is very insecure, and scurries from one room to the next with her head and tail down. She tries to stay away from the other cats, but if she sees one of them even walking towards her she hisses at them. When they fight, its really not that bad but Patches screams and hisses really loud. They chase her out of rooms or just when they are bored. This makes Patches very stressed and sometimes pees outside the letterbox (it seems like she is trying to mark territory). She is very playful and needs to play a lot. If another cat sees me playing with her they will chase her away and play instead, or just walk away so I can't play with them at the same time. I'm not really sure who's peeing most of the time now because I have caught Ruby spraying 3 times now. Max and Skittles chase her sometimes but its mostly Ruby. When Skittles chases her it's more like play, He chases Patches and then Patches chases him (most of the time). When I see Patches use the litter box she goes in and then runs out as fast as she can without even bothering to bury it. Patches's favourite room used to be my room and she would sleep there all the time but a couple years back she started peeing in there so she can't go in there anymore. Today some cat peed all over my brothers room and I just don't know what to do anymore. I feel like Patches needs her own space but thats nearly impossible with so many cats. Our deck is fenced off to give them extra room to go outside and Skittles absolutely loves it out there and spends most of his time there but can be kind of protective of it sometimes with other cats. We have lots of cat trees too. We let the cats out in our backyard (supervised) and they love it out there.

We are going to take Patches and Ruby to the vet but if the vet doesn't have any solutions my dad wants to make them outside cats. Making them outside-inside cats would probably solve the problems but I really don't want to, they could get hit by cars, stolen or killed :( plus Ruby would probably kill most of the birds in the neighbourhood. We live in a suburban area that isn't too busy but not to far away is a big road. I really don't know what to do anymore. Sorry for the long post, I just really want them to stop fighting.

@fluffycat6
Do you have enough space to build one of those cat runs? That way she can outside but stay away from other cats?

Does anyone else have cats that get on well with dogs?
Arty gets on really well with our dogs and tries to play with them sometimes. Lenney and Pickles aren't too keen.

There's this cat in the village that we named Buddy - who was recently "adopted" by another family, he's pretty much a stray though - and he goes on dog walks with this other family. Luckily, we know the family and they are lovely people. They have two dogs who are sort of crazy, but they get on well with Bud. He also visits us sometimes, and our dogs have become accustomed to hearing "Buddy" and they go mad when they hear his name.

Arty also made friends with this white cat... she's very pretty, pure white and is quite shy - don't worry, Arty was neutered! There are so many cats in our village, but they hardly ever fall out, and if they do, it's only a small fight. The worst injury our cats ever got, was a nick on the ear; Lenney used to be quite the village ruffian. Not so much anymore, though x3

Hey, sorry for cutting into the conversation, but my baby is no longer a baby.. </3

Honey "Honeybaby" D. Is three today. Approximately three years ago approximately today, a little ginger kitten came into this world, on the NYC streets. She went through the horrors of street life, then the nurturing atmosphere of the ASPCA, where she was spayed & then adopted. Not by me, but by another kind soul. After a while, she couldn't care for Honey, two years old then, and put her on Craigslist. "Just a normal cat" said the listing. She's not. Ever since I saw her for the first time - wandering around her new home... I knew she was special. She was my cat, and she still is. Until the day she dies.
Honey goes by many names; big lazy ball of fur, "anger issues", sweetcheeks, Joan, & loved.

Our deck fenced in basically serves as a cat run, other than that we have a lot of trees in our backyard and don't have enough room to add anything else. My Mom wants to rehome Patches if she doesn't stop peeing :(

@kings ; Honey is so pretty!

Hello, does anyone know anything about stopping wool sucking in kittens?
We picked up a kitten a few weeks ago and she wool sucks really bad. I did my research on the web and spoke to my vet about it. The vet said to stop it to keep putting her down every time she does it. But it's been three weeks and she still can't sit on us without doing it, I've not been able to cuddle her since we got her because of this D:. Plus she has started to bite and scratch us every time we move her off and shes getting really bad. She's started attacking our hands when we try to stroke her now.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Sorry for my slow response time on RP's. My new job steals ALL my time. :(

But that's a pet that is harder to take care of . And yes , I think you should accept that you can't get a kitty I'm sorry but that is true , if your parents say no they have a reason.

Sigh. So we just found out our 5 month old kitten, which we adopted a few weeks ago, has roundworm. He must have picked it up at the shelter, because all our cats are strictly indoor. The past 3 cats we've adopted, all had worms when we adopted them. First from a pet store, then a foster lady, and now a shelter. He's on medication now, but I didn't realize how easily cats could pick up worms, even from a clean animal shelter.
