Alright Schuyler I'm gonna try and guess for yours I suppose...

I think it's this (sorry for using someone else's image, I missed this one although its probly my fave so far DX )

Reasons:

"Pretty bird"
I believe the fire looks like a wing, and so the adult form of this could be a phoenix, which is a very pretty bird indeed.

"An aspect of my dog follows a logical progression as it grows"
I believe the fire from the wing will spread to cover the whole pup as it becomes a Phoenix!

"The reds and oranges were my favorite colors in the palette this year. They remind me of fire!"
This pup uses only the reds and oranges (and a bit of yellow I guess). Not only that but there is literally fire on the pup

"My dog's eye color doesn't match the palette"
The dog's eyes are blue, which isn't on the palette

"Perhaps the wandering sun could help"
This one is tough to explain as this clue has not been solved yet, but thinking about it in relation to this pup I have a theory. The sun is made of fire (well not ACTUALLY but this isn't the time or place to go all super astronomy nerd lol). Fires on earth are often poetically referred to as "tiny suns." Phoenixes are made of fire - hence suns - and can fly from place to place, making them wandering suns!

That should be all the hints (at least, the ones on the chart.) I await your confirmation or denial!

But, I'm afraid I'll have to be mean and not confirm or deny your guess yet, as you are missing some hints and my policy is that you must explain all of them. There are ... I believe seven separate, relevant hints in total. To make things a bit easier on you, I'm planning to make a conclusion post compiling everything together once the last hint (the one at the end of the "wandering sun" puzzle, that is) has been found, but if you want to start working out a theory before then, that's the number of hints you're looking for. ^^

I will, however, say that "wandering sun" is not intended to be a hint about my dog in any way, only part of the puzzle to find a hint. That is not to say that my design either does or does not have a feature that could relate in some way to the sun, but I assure you I had no deliberate connection in mind.

And one last, hopefully useful piece of advice for those of you working on my little scavenger hunt:

Remember that the string of pet names you found had two parts for you to ponder: the wandering sun sentence and the Sherlock quote. Most of the ideas I've seen so far about where to go next have been based on either one or the other. Now, while I will say that "wandering sun" is the more important of the two and you could potentially figure everything out without ever touching the quote, I did put it there for a reason and it was intended specifically to help with the step you are currently on. If you are heading in the right direction, you should easily see what that reason was. If you can't or have to make big stretches or broad/vague associations to find a connection, that could be a sign that you are not on the right track.

My suggestion, therefore, is to maybe consider changing tactics and trying your hand at interpreting what that quote might be telling you in the context of this particular scavenger hunt. You might find that route much easier for finding your way than if you simply go out and scour the internet blindly for anything that uses the words "wandering sun".The trail you want to follow is much less random than that. ^^ There's probably a ton of stuff out there that's not at all what you're looking for and will only throw you off course!

Any progress made on my hints? I'd be happy to deny or confirm a pup if it can be matched up with 3+ of them. :3 Confirmation dependent on my pup having grown, of course.
