any suggestions or tips on convincing parents??
Firstly... research!
A common mistake people make is not doing enough research, and when this happens, accidents occur. Look into rescue centres, at different breeds and at how to keep cats happy and healthy. Once you know this, and are 110% sure that you're ready, then you can try to persuade/convince your parents.
Some ways to do this:
- Show them your research.
- Show them how responsible you are by doing different jobs/chores.
Show them your research:
Put together all of the information you found, either into a Word Document or a Powerpoint slide. Make sure it's clear and easy to read, and explains everything. You could give them links to local rescue centre websites, photos of cats, information on different breeds, feed/nutrition, health care, grooming etc.
Jobs/chores:
This really works (I managed to get two guinea pigs by showing how responsible I was, but it does depend on your parents, of course). Try helping around the house. Washing dishes, tidying your room or looking after your other animals is a great way to show how responsible you are. If you are old enough, you could try getting a "job" such as dog walking or pet sitting.
It depends on whatever works for you and your parents.
I would definitely recommend getting a cat from your local rescue centre. You are giving them a new, safe life and that would feel really good, wouldn't it?
Remember to make sure that you are 110% ready for a cat and do your research!
Good luck xx
