Since I joined in 2009, I'm pretty sure I've had almost all the pets on the site pass through my hands at some point. Except this guy. I've never ONCE owned it and that makes me mad. One day... One day.

What is your advice for newbies in terms of their long-term CS game?
And it would be to NOT trade away any ungrown pets. At all. Even grown ones. Don't trade until you have a really good handle on rarity, because unfortunately there are a bunch of sneaky weasels on the site who will take advantage of that to give you an unfair end of the deal.
Then set a goal. It can be completing this month's collection, or collecting all cats of a certain colour. But work towards that goal, day by day. Two trades a day make a BIG difference.
Use the adoption centres and competitions. You have a great resource to get hold of pets you can't yet trade for, right in front of you. But remember those adoption centres and the early leg up they gave you, when six years down the line you are brimming with cool pets. Try and find ways to pay it back later (even if it takes you a good four years to do it, like it did me).
Get involved in games and forums and mini-communities. Having friends on the site is amazing and makes the experience so much more worthwhile. Doesn't matter if you think you can't draw, can't write, can't create. Practice and learn and have fun anyway, and enjoy the people you meet.
Play fair, play like it's just a game, and never forget to have fun.
