Soul was taken by surprise by her question, but shook his head sadly.
"I have no memory of them. I was born, put right into the infirmary at the castle... I joined the Redd's at 13 and left when I was 18. All I knew for 15 years was stiff uniforms and killing. Not the best environment for a little kid..."
He muttered, cringing slightly as he remembered the general beating him each time he messed up.
Every single thing he did wrong, the general would beat him in front of the other kids to show them what happened to you when you acted out.
He never got to have any fun as a kid.
After a few years, he grew more and more insane.
He guessed that's why most people mistook him for a Hatter half of the time.
"Eh... I cringe just thinking about the training camp..."
He muttered sadly, remembering all of the little kids, 4 and 5 years old, that had been killed by fatigue, starvation, or from being beaten so much.

Tamilia cringed as Soul spoke; she'd never known the life of a Redd soldier was so harsh. She knew the training was vigorous and brutal, but was it really that horrible? When the fear in his eyes rose, she slipped her body against his, as if to comfort the boy as well as herself. Looking to the ground momentarily, she glanced back to the path, suddenly whirling off of it into the middle of the thick bush. Under the thick growth, there was a barely visible path, and it made the pair have to walk in single-file. Tamilia took the lead, but stayed to the side of the path, so she could watch Soul. "That kind of sounds like my life...well, parts of it, anyway. My dad - a soldier, yippee - would always be taking care of me when my mom was off sewing or being a loon. He made me learn mapping, and battle tactics, and all of these different things. Then, when my mom was killed, he just...I don't know...distanced himself. For a while, I...I kind of felt like he didn't want me." Tamilia wasn't crying; actually, she was forcing herself to smile, like she always did. Even if she felt like breaking down, she knew there was no logical reason to - the past was the past, and besides, Soul had had it worse than she had and he wasn't crying about it.

Sou's eyes softened as she spoke of her past and he reached out and squeezed her hand reassuringly.
"Well. I know one thing. I don't plan on distancing myself from you like your dad anytime soon."
He said, offering her a smile and wishing that she wouldn't cry.
It tore him apart to see her cry.
His hair fluttered slightly in the breeze and he grumbled something, adjusting his headband.

Tamilia felt Soul squeeze her hand and managed a faint smile, her eyes meeting his as he spoke. She saw his smile and bit her lip; she didn't understand why seeing her cry made him so worked up. Sure, she was special to him, but she was only a simple Hatter. Surely, he had to have seen many cry: raiding Alyssian villages, the other soldiers being punished, torturing prisoners. The thought of Soul hacking into an Alyssian with his bladed arm made her cringe, and she had to blink a few times to get the thought out of her head. Managing to snap back to reality, Tamilia grasped Soul's hand tightly, watching his white hair flutter in the cool night's breeze. She giggled, batting at the hair like a kitten, and looking to him with her curious, wide eyes, before brushing the hair back as he had done to her. "You need a haircut, Fish," She teased, refering to when she had said he was like the card fish. She laughed lightly and dashed ahead on the path, glancing back at the boy through her messy locks of brown and neon-streaked hair.

Tamilia heard Soul's footfall and shrieked in a child-like way, full of excitement and happiness. In fact, she did feel like a child again: the way her parents would play tag with her, and chase her through the forest for hours on end. It was more her mother than her father, though; the only time her father would play with her was after her mother had been killed by the Redds. As Tamilia snapped by the reality, she realized Soul was gone, and she looked back intently. Suddenly, she collided with a person, and it took her a moment to realize it was Soul. With a playfully angry growl, she pounded lightly on his chest, leaning back against his hands. Honestly, she was thankful that he caught her; otherwise, she would have probably run into a tree, or tripped. "Hey! I never said we could go in the trees!" She teased, a mock tone of anger weaving into her words. Laughing, she snaked her hands around his waist, leaning back enough to look into his eyes with her own. The moon dappled through the trees, making her eyes and streaks glow with an unearthly light. "We've gone completely mad," Tamilia said softly, though laughter was evident in her voice and expression.

Soul smirked.
"True. But when you think about it... Being mad isn't all that bad."
He said, smiling slightly at the little rhyme.
When her arms snaked around him, it sent chills up his spine.
Not the creepy kind that you get when you're scared though.
The good kind.
If that makes any sense.

Tamilia grinned at Soul's words, catching the little rhyme in his words. She saw him shudder and chuckled lightly, taking a small, hesitant step closer to the boy. A wave of emotions washed over her as she did, staring into the boy's eyes: love, longing, happiness, excitement; even a slight hint of adrenaline pumped through her veins. Tamilia looked down a moment - trying to rid herself of the blush on her cheeks - then looked back to Soul, feeling the odd emotions flood back. Smirking, she traced her finger along his chest, drawing random flowers and spirals with her fingertip. "Well...at least if we are mad...we're mad together." Grinning up to Soul, she closed in, but instead of kissing his lips, she traced her lips against his neck. "See, Soul? I've gone so mad that I can't find your lips." Tamilia giggled quietly, glancing to Soul with a mischievious spark in her eyes. "Will you help me...?"

Soul smirked.
Feeling all of the same emotions as her, he let her trace her patterns of his chest.
When she kissed his neck, he felt a grin spread across his face.
Putting his index finger under her chin, he tipped her head up to face him.
"Up here, you silly little Hatter."
He said with a smirk and pressed his lips to hers.
All thoughts of the camp were erased from his mind and all he could think about was her.
His heart pumped faster and he let his arms snake around her waist.
The feeling was almost natural.
