some people do that as an easy way to level up - or someone just threw in the first pokemon they could to collect coins I do that sometimes

Given the chance, I would probably do that too, to be honest.

I remember someone said they were going to keep powering up a Pidgey until it could singlehandedly take down gyms, but then quit because it took a crazy amount of stardust to even get it past CP 300 or so.

yea.. I couldnt see even a max CP pidgey beating say a 2000 snorlax or lapras.. I have a small lapras I use to battle to build up gym prestige (its 500 some CP and can easily take down the first pokemon (sometimes 2 or 3) in most gyms.. using it vs a 1000 CP pokemon nests close to 1000 gym prestige, so it's worth it)

I find gym battles a little difficult, not just because of the strength of the Pokemon but simply for the game mechanics. I did beat a Mystic gym's CP 980 Magmar once when I had a CP 800 Vaporeon, but of course couldn't take down the CP 1100 Vaporeon that came next.

Not many gyms close by me anyways, so I don't get much practice.

i'm having problems with gyms aswell

The gyms closest to me are all either Mystic or Valor. One time, the closest one to me (a mile away maybe?) reset itself and was taken over by Instinct, but within an hour or so went back to Valor. These gyms are level 5 at the highest I've seen, but they do also have CP 1000+ Pokemon, sometimes over CP 2000. That CP 10 Weedle should still believe in itself, though <3

The Pokemon usually are Arcanines, Vaporeons, Snorlaxes, and Laprases, while more recently I've been seeing a sudden increase in Exeggutors on both teams. Occasionally I'll come across a Clefable or Flareon or something, but in general they seem to follow patterns.

Edit: just to clarify, not gonna lie that my strongest Pokemon are my Arcanine and Vaporeon.

The gyms in my area are a bit more spread out, but I know that at least four gyms around my house stay Instinct fairly consistently. The rest are Mystic and Valor, and mostly stay that way.

Literally all the gyms near me (at least when I take a look at them) are level 7+, or 3 and below. There is no in-between.

@narnian - I don't think that could happen randomly, as far as I know?

I know if you defeat all the pokemon at a gym the gym loses more experience than defeating just one, but five tiers down is a very large jump ;u;

Gyms are not the thing I know the most about as i don't take over gyms too often XD That's an interesting thing to have happened, though.

Oh my god this house I'm staying at rn is literally a pokemon MAGNET

I've caught:
2 squirtles
A charmander
A pikachu
A omanyte
A pinsir
A marowak
A chansey (that ran away :< )

And an assortment of other pokemon that are uncommon like goldeens, poliwags, ekans, eggecutes, etc

Jost hopping in to say I caught my first meowth yesterday and hated both my eggs ; one to a krabby and one to a pidgey (RIP)
I hit level 12, too !

And there's a gym about two minutes away from me that's instinct lvl 3 and all the pokemon in it are tauros.... so I mean, i didn't mess w/ them. they spooked me.

There is a tropical storm where i am, so no pokemon hunting today XD but i may get lucky and get a few in my house.
