Zack listened to her intently as Claire spoke about having a 'boyfriend'. His thin brows creased together as she continued to speak, and when she stopped, her plush, bottom lip began to tremble softly. Bringing one of his firm hands up to her chin, he shifted himself so he was holding her head up to look into his eyes. "Claire..." He murmered, shaking his head slowly and sighing in exasperation. "Don't beat yourself up like that. I bet you were as gorgeous as you are now when you were a human."

Zack blinked slowly before his gaze dropped down to her lips. "You deserve better than what I'm about to offer, you deserve much better..." Taking a long pause, he bit down on his full, bottom lip before asking, "Claire. Would you like me to be your boyfriend?"

C o l d . But I'm still here.

Ivan held tight as best he could as Merr suddenly bolted, chasing something he couldn't see. Whatever it was, it didn't have a very good chance of escaping the demon's huge paws or speed, and they slowed as quickly as they had started off. "Merr?" He questioned his friend, leaning forwards to try and peer down in front of them to whatever Merr was busy with. It probably wasn't the best of ideas, inching closer to Merr's bloody snack, but from where he sat he didn't even know what was there. If the demon could get sidetracked so easily, there was a good chance he didn't know exactly where they were going. Ivan hoped he'd be a little more concentrated if he did, anyways. "Are we lost...?" Ivan asked, sitting back up and wiping a hand over the patch covering his right eye, or where it used to be. It hurt to touch, but he was trying to wipe away the unnerving feeling that past over it, remembering Ebony picking at it, and the threat of that man...

Merr whined softly as he finished his meal, admiting to Ivan that he had no idea where they were... He hung his head, his tails between his legs, as much as three tails could be... Letting out another whine, he looked up at Ivan to try and see his expression. It wasn't going to be good, but he wanted to make sure that Ivan wasn't afraid.

Oh. My. Gosh. Claire looked at Zack with a dazed expression. She was truly shocked Zack had asked her that. Still, she thought about how she would feel if Zack did become her boyfriend. She thought about what mornings would be like, waking to his touch, how afternoons would feel, picking flowers in meadows and hunting together, how nights would be, curling up with him ,watching the sunset, and falling asleep in his arms. She wanted so badly to know, but she hesitated, thinking about it.

As she thought and decided, a small light began to appear in Claire's eyes and a smile tugged at her soft lips. She bit her lower lip, leaned over, and pressed her lips to his tender ones. When she pulled back, she asked,"Does that answer your question?" She smiled sweetly. "Oh! And... I don't deserve anything better than what I've got now. Same goes for you. Because we've both got each other."

Claire brushed her fingers against his cheek, then moved a few hairs away that were hanging in Zack's beautiful jade-green(?) eyes. She hooked her arm with his and intertwined her delicate, tiny fingers with his strong, yet gentle, ones. She didn't know why she had not noticed this earlier, but it felt easier to be with Zack. She knew she could spill her life's secrets to him and he would never tell them to anyone else. She knew she could do anything, well, almost anything, in front of Zack and not be embarrassed. She knew she could love him like no one else ever could, will, or should. And she felt happy being with him, not depressed and guilty, She felt she would survive another day and not waste it wallowing in tears and what ifs.

Rayne meowed and poked her paws through the bars of her cage. As soon as her fur hit the metal, a strong electric current zapped her. She screeched in pain and slipped hr paws back through. She kept mewing and circling her cage, waiting for someone or something to come. Suddenly, a door swung open, hitting the wall with a bang.

Rayne jumped as the door hit the wall. She watched as a burly man stepped in the room and opened her cage door. He grabbed Rayne by her scruff, not allowing her to scratch or bite him. She hissed, but the man was uneffected. He then spoke.

"You're wanted in lab seven, you stupid rat with fur." Rayne hissed and growled, a long, low, deep thing that came from the bottom of her throat. She swiped at the man, but was unsuccesful.

"Oh! Thanks. I gotta remind them to declaw you." The man laughed as Rayne hissed and screeched in panic. She was scared, but she sure didn't want to show it. She still hoped someone would come quickly and save her.

Merr's whine and drooping ears ripped any hope of finding their way back to the others away from Ivan, an expression to match that sudden empty feeling crossing his face. So they were lost...Then what was the point of moving if they could be separating themselves even further? Ivan let his grip on Merr's fur loosen, his pale blue eye staring low, off to the side. He didn't even really notice the demon as he turned his head around. Though fear never really left Ivan alone, it was more of a dulled feeling that filled him now, sharing the same effect his lost expression held. It reminded him of the voices that had whispered to him while being trapped with that man, about letting go of emotions. It felt like a good place to turn to at that moment.

Merr whined once more, moving his head further round to push Ivan back on. Making sure the boy had a decent grip on his fur, he scampered up the nearest tree that looked like it could take his weight plus Ivan's. The view was better from there, so he focused on all directions, looking for anything familiar.

Had Merr not moved Ivan on his own, he probably would have fallen, barely noticing the movement as the demon climbed his way into one of the larger, more stable looking trees. Up at the top, Ivan let his eye pass over the things below, looking almost lazy until he realized they were off the ground. In a start, he pulled tightly at Merr's fur, fighting the sudden sickness that washed over him, trying to keep steady. Ivan had never really been afraid of heights, but the only times he'd been lifted from the ground now had been against his will and by those he was certain wanted to either kill him, or at least make him miserable. Amiselle being one of them. Staring in wide-eyed panic until he realized exactly where he was, Ivan let himself relax, although he kept a good hold on Merr now. Thinking back to Amiselle, Ivan began to wonder if she had dropped them where she had for a reason; did she want to keep them lost? It seemed like a possibility, given her earlier behaviour... "We're not going to find our way back, are we...?"
