Also, how "was" Polynesian society structured - what century are you supposed to be researching? Figuring that out may help you find the answer.

You could try: looking in your textbook, checking out an appropriate book at the library, starting at wiki and confirming/reading up on the information by checking out their citations, doing a google scholar search, etc.

Here are my homework assignments for my physics class:
1. A lantern has a mass of 250 kg is suspended by a string that is joined to two other 5 strings. what is the tension in each string if they make equal angels of 35degree from the support beam.ignore the mass of the string.
2. A book lays on the top of the table, what are the forces that act on it? What is the reaction force to each of the force acting on the book.
3. A student pushes, a 40kg box with a 20 N, horizontal force a long a friction less level surface, what is the a that is given to the box?

DEADLINE is Monday, Sep, 5

@ashleysummer - I just want to say, before answering the questions, that my native language is not english so some of the names I used here might not be exactly correct or at least usual. Also, if there is something wrong I'd like someone to point it out and if there's any question about the answers I'll help with what I can c:

1. I didn't quite understand the strings part (how many strings are connected to the first?), but the tension needs to equal the gravitational force on the lantern, so F = m.g (Newton's second law) F = 250 x 9.8 = 2450 N. Now the tension is divided by the strings and since they have the same angles and irrelevant mass all you need to do is divide this value by the amount of strings. (not entirely sure of this since I didn't exactly get the question, so I'd like someone to say something about this)

2. First of all, the book is on Earth so it's being affected by the gravitational force. Since it is on top of the table there is the reaction force of the table's surface, called normal force. The reaction force is always the "vice-versa" of these:
- Action: Earth's force on the book (gravitational force) > Reaction: book's force on Earth
- Action: table's force on the book (normal force) > Reaction: book's force on the table

3. Once again Newton's second law. You have the mass and the intensity of the force and there is no friction, so:
F = m.a
20 = 40 a
a = 0.5 m/s

Go through your notes/textbook. What equations do you have? What do they solve? What are your unknowns? Knowing what they solve for and what your unknowns are will help you determine which equation to use for which question. Another thing you should do is sketch out what each question is describing. Doing that will help you picture what is going on and make it clear what your knowns and unknowns are.

I think all of these are fairly simply and shouldn't require any substitutions. You just have to find the right equations. I'm not sure what grade level you're studying at, but if it's college, professors offer office hours and have TAs for a reason. They're available for help. And if you're not in college, you can still definitely ask your teacher for some help.

Again, we don't mind helping, but it helps if you describe why you're stuck/what you've tried. When you just give a question and ask us to solve it for you, it doesn't seem like you've really tried to solve the problems for yourself. So what equations do you have that you can work with? Did you try an equation and it didn't work?

Now, as for specific tips on solving the problems:

YOUR QUESTION:I have a definite integral of 2 pi x sec(x)tan(x) from 0 to pi/4

I already confirmed my integral equates to 2 pi( X sec(x) - ln|sec(x) +tan (x)| evaluated from 0 to pi/4 (I double checked with an integral calculator after being stuck on this ungodly waste of time for three days)

but when I evaluate from 0 to pi/4 I get a negative answer and the integral is being used to calculate VOLUME. I can't have a negative volume! What am I doing wrong?

it is 2pi*x*sec(x)tan(x), and I THINK I actually got it. My boyfriend (who oddly enough is not taking a calc class) pointed out that I was inserting the parameters wrong I had it as (pluging in 0 and pi/4 for X) (pi/4-0)(sec(pi/4)-sec(0)) when the correct setup is (pi/4*Sec(pi/4))-(0*Sec(0))

Now I just have to figure out why the heck he's better at my homework than I am TwT
