As far as I know ,its not classified as a sport by official sites yet ,and most schools who offer it as a after-class-activity have their own opinion on wether to count it as sport or not.however ,a lot of marching band members are working to get their hobby officially announced as a sport so this might change soon. And for my personal opinion-i think if chess can be counted among the sports ,marching bands can too.i mean ,they often march for long distances without pausing so its basically like a marathon but with all participants playing fancy music as a bonus. ..its rather exhausting to walk and play at the same time ,its physicall activity, its done as a team with clear tasks for each member, there are competitions...sounds rather sport-ish to me.
