I'm trying my hardest to come up with an original story for this. My goal is to get it at least 500 words. My ship is just gonna look different than the one in the picture, but my plot is slowly coming together xD

I HAVE MY STORY :D

Thunk!

...And then we were falling.

I felt the floor move beneath me and I knew what had happened. We'd been cut off. Our entire sky ship had been dangling by a powerful rope in the clutches of a dragon. War had plagued our country and this had been our only chance of escape. I should have known it would never work, our enemies could just hunt us down. Oh well, at least the dragon will probably get a bite out of them. Now, I know you're thinking, 'how can I be so calm?' and, to tell you the truth, everyone else was thinking the same thing.

Anyone on deck had probably been blown off, so lucky me I wasn't up there. The third floor was a riot of screaming people. We were plummeting to the ocean below. Drowning wasn't exactly how I wanted to die. If it weren't for the fact that I had to cling to the staircase banister to keep my balance, I'd probably be looking out the window.

A deafening screech sounded from above. That must be the dragon, blasting the enemy ship to bits. Trying to rescue us would be futile, we'd be crushed in the thing's powerful claws. Now, I suppose you're wondering why we didn't use our dragons to fight back. It was simply because our enemies had better dragons, and that was that. But I didn't want to spend my last moments pondering the quality of dragons.

I knew the water was getting closer, I could feel it in my bones.

Just kidding, I couldn't really feel anything except for the stairs stabbing my back.

My mother, my last surviving family member, looked at me from her spot in the corner. I gave her a grin. Last week I'd told her I would die smiling. She burst into tears. I wanted to go over to her and comfort her more than anything. To be with her before we hit.

And then I realized I could do whatever the hell I wanted.

So I let go of the banister and darted in her direction, only to fall down and get sent rolling. At least I was closer to my destination. She gasped and immediately bent over to reach out to me. I had to army crawl to reach her but the embrace she engulfed me in made everything even better than before.

"Heh, hey mother." She just sobbed my name, her face buried in my chest. I noticed she had a bit of a view out the window. "We must look so cool, falling out of the sky." I commented. Her breathing was ragged gulps.

We sat there in utter silence, waiting for the end. I knew our carrier would probably come back to seek out the shipwreck. Maybe it would find my body.

Maybe not.

I could make out the individual waves moments before my last. I breathed out and held my mother close, squeezing her hand. "I hate dragons." I muttered.

And then the ship collided with the salty waters and ripped open like a chasm beneath my feet, gaping wide and swallowing me up.

xxxThe ship was destroyed. I realized this suddenly, as I looked over at Undaunted and saw it's glorious ruin.
xxxIt had fallen apart slowly, as these things always do. Slowly, wooden planks rotted away and fell to the sea floor, eventually pulled away by currents into the darkness where I could not go. Undaunted seemed to turn into a deep sea reef with coral growing all around it. There were no fish darting around here, however. The beast had made sure of that.
xxxIt passed through here every once in a while. I cannot count days, but it seemed to be visiting more and more often. Of course, that could just be me getting more and more used to the passing of time. The darkness of the deep ocean prevented me from seeing the sun, so I had nothing to do but think. Most of the time, I simply thought about the day I first saw the beast, the day the boat sunk, the day that I died.
xxxThere had been a party. I close my eyes unnecessarily - I cannot see even with them open - and remember. I remember the colour of my dress, a deep scarlet, and the laughing. Everyone there was skilled at keeping their champagne glasses upright during the waves to prevent their expensive clothes from being ruined. Not that it would've mattered.
xxxIt had struck without any warning. The ocean remained miraculously still despite the huge, monstrous form moving beneath it. Suddenly, a enormous blue tail smashed Undaunted in two. Shrieks filled the air as the two halves of the ship rocketed into the sky with the force of the beast's small movement. The night sky was lit up by it's glowing fire which burst forth and lit up our boat in blue flames. How many people were burned to death? How many drowned? I do not know.
xxxThen it fell. I clutched onto a nearby table as the boat hit the sea again. At that moment, the fear finally registered. Everything had happened so fast up until that point that I hadn't had time to be afraid. But my screams joined the others.
xxxUndaunted sank slowly, and the hopeless cries cut off. My lungs filled with water and I tried to swim up but my heavy dress dragged me to the bottom of the sea.
xxxI hadn't realized then that I was already gone. I kept fighting, but something always dragged me back too the boat. I was terrified of what was happening, desperate. Why had nobody come to save me?
xxxAnd then the beast visited again. It ignored the ship completely, just passing through. It's scales shimmered in the light of it's fire. To this day I do not know how it still managed to breath out those blue flames when water like ice was all around. And in the flickering blue light, I saw my own body at my feet.
xxxMy eyes open. Nothing has changed much since then. I am still stuck here, the beast still visits. The only differences are the slow differences of time. Undaunted is now a reef, and I am now at peace. It is the way things are and will be, until they slowly change as the uncountable years pass.

Well. That was a bit more morbid than expected. This is my first time entering this competition by the way, so sorry if I accidentally broke any rules!

@Free- I was scrolling and I was just like, "Whelp, obviously the better story." I like the idea, and it was written with some nice detail. Which is where I know I was lacking.

Glad you liked in so much, I decided I should try out a new style and that kind of happened. If you mean the continuation would be for the competition, than I'd prefer it if my idea stayed mine. If you mean you wanna collab as a separate project, then I'd be happy to :D
