but she will normally stick to herself and her group
of friends. She can come off a shy, but she is honestly
really friendly and reliable. She is very modest and

at the upside of things and always be there for her
friends. Ridley, under watchful eyes, gets skittish
and unsettled and is scared someone might see her
mess up. When no one is watching though, she is
confident and swift.

Name: Amid Basara

Occupation: Marine biologist with a minor in biochemistry

Personality: Amid is quite the character. He is easily excited by things that typically bore your average person. He'll talk to you all day long about plant cells vs. animal cells, what different features on different plants mean, and why certain animals do what they do. He'll probably put you into a sleep induced coma with his very fascinating study on eels.

Aside from being very enthusiastic about his studies, Amid is a pretty nice guy. He's a bit timid when first meeting someone, especially someone who doesn't share his interests, but once he opens up, boy does he open up. He's obviously very intelligent, and maybe a little oblivious to social cues. During his time on the cruise ship, he spent most of his days out on the deck, laying back and observing the weather patterns.

Appearance: He's a pretty small guy, standing only at 5'5" and having a lean build. He has light brown skin and brown eyes, obviously of Arab descent. His hair is jet black and usually worn in a well molded, hair gel filled puff on his head. Amid has neatly trimmed facial hair. His usual fashion choice is a lab coat over checkered shirts or sweater vests.

Other: Amid does not speak with an accent, but he is fluent in several languages. He can speak Pashto and Dari, both languages that are often learned together in Afghanistan. He can also speak English very well, as he learned when he was a small child. He can also speak fluent Spanish, although his pronunciation is atrocious. He clearly learned it later in life.

History: Amid was born in a small village in Afghanistan. He doesn't remember much of his early life. Really, only one day stands out in his mind: the day his village came under attack. It was chaos, bullets flying and homes burning. Amid was one of the few who survived after the village leaders refused to allow their village to be taken over by the invaders.

The small boy, barely 6, was found huddled up in a half destroyed house. Military troops had arrived to fight the invaders, but had gotten there far too late. Amid and a few others were taken to a shelter, and the boy was eventually put into a foster home. There were many orphans in the system, and hope for adoption was very low. People could barely afford to take care of their own families, let alone bring in more mouths to feed.

However, Amid got lucky. An American couple came to his foster home to adopt a child. They were pretty well to-do, and had wanted a child for a long time, but were unable to have one. Instead of going through an expensive medical procedure to make it possible, they decided to adopt a child who desperately needed a home.

Amid was still timid. It had been a year since his village had been destroyed, and he hadn't come out of his shell much since. The couple must have seen something in him, though, because before long, he was on a flight back to the States. Of course, Amid eventually overcame his shellshock. When given a chance to succeed, he went above and beyond. He was always a good student in school, joining several science clubs and making straight A's. He was your typical geek.

When it came time for collage, his parents sent him to the best of the best. Amid attended several years at University of Hawaii at Hilo, majoring in marine biology and biochemistry. When he finally graduated, he decided to travel the world a little. He somehow or another got lucky enough to get a spot on board the merfolk project.

Absinthe can come
off as brusque, or cold, but in reality, she's
quite fiery. She was raised in an abusive
household, and joined the robotics team
in high school to avoid going home after
school. Through this, she discovered a talent
for bio engineering. She's very clever with
tech and robots, and is extremely
protective of her creations. Outside of her
job, Absinthe is a very passionate person,
spending a lot of time listening to music
and writing in her notebook or trying
to teach herself new things. Strangely enough,
Absinthe gives off a very punk rock vibe.
She lines her eyes with dark black liner, and
wears muted colors and torn jeans. Her most
common accesories are combat boots and an
array of necklaces that range from chokers to
wiccan pendants. Because of this, she found it
rather hard to establish a job in the scientific
community. That is, until this new discovery
was made, and the company couldn't deny her
value as an asset to the team.
It's worth mentioning that Absinthe comes off
as a flirt to almost everyone she's around. She's a
teasing and very playful soul, but don't worry, if
she likes you, she will let you know very clearly.
That's one thing to be said for Absinthe. She doesn't
beat around the bush. The bush doesn't even exist
with Absinthe. She's blunt and to a point.

Gareth appriciates the simple
things in life, like the sun on his
face, or the satisfaction of a new
discovery. He doesn't always agree
with his pod's decisions, but
he will always obey orders. He
was born and raised to the sea, and
loves everything about the ocean. He
has a fondness for the sky though, and
will often spend nights watching the
stars. He doesn't like to tell many other
mermaids about it though, because it's
such a risky past time. Besides
this, Gareth is a rather peaceful
spirit. He doesn't like fights
or violence, preferring instead
to convince and manipulate his
victims into giving him what he wants.
This is where his darker side comes
out. While he's not violent, he is
very manipulative, and will easily
use his words to coerce people into
obeying him.
He knows that his tail shocks a lot of
people when he first meets them, but he
takes pride in it, wearing brilliant blue
and purple shells or paint on his body to
accent his exotic tail. He's never let
rude or emasculating comments affect him.
As he grew up, the comments became less
frequent. It's hard to insult a man who's
bigger than most of the population.
