Name: Berlin
Gender: Female
Adoptive parent: KarlOverview: After yet another run-in with the law, Karl was faced with a choice; he could either serve jail time, or he could do community service hours for the next three months. Reluctantly, he chose community service work, and was placed in voluntary orphanage work. For the next three months, he was to work with the children and care for them - essentially raise them as his own, in a sense. It was hell at first - Karl, never the sociable one, strayed away from the rowdier children in order to retain what little sanity he had left. He was almost certain he would end up begging to be thrown in prison by the end of the first week. However, it was around that time he met a certain small girl sitting alone underneath a tree in the play yard. Karl was astounded - the other children would dart right by her, seemingly unaware of her presence.
Karl observed the girl for a while. She never seemed upset that none of the other kids would pay her any attention. Rather, she seemed to be perfectly fine on her own - always watching her surroundings with a certain fascination that caught Karl's interest right off the bat.
Three weeks into his sentence, Karl approached the pup. Although a tad nervous, the elder managed to keep a level tone as he asked her name. In a small voice, the girl replied, "My name is Berlin. I am the girl that everyone forgets."
Karl and Berlin spoke for hours, quickly becoming rather close. And for the next thirteen weeks, Karl would take at least an hour out of his day to sit down with Berlin. He never forgot to visit her.
Finally, Karl's sentence came to an end - he no longer had to volunteer at the orphanage. However, he did not forget about Berlin, and went to visit her that same day. That same day, he asked if she would like to be his daughter - he would adopt and care for her as his own if she were to accept this offer. Berlin was taken aback by this, and, with tears in her eyes, accepted Karl's offer.
As she hugged him, Karl told her something - something that would stick with her for the rest of her life.
"From now on, you are my Berlin, and you will never be forgotten. Not if I can help it."
