TYPE OF QUESTION: English =^-^=
YOUR QUESTION:Hey so I understand this might be a bit of a difficult question so if I don't get an answer that's fine. I'm just super confused and was hoping someone could give me guidance as my mom can not.
okay so the question on my paper is "Explain how Gordimer uses diction or figurative language to reinforce the tone of the passage. Cite specific examples of the diction to back up your answer." I know what diction and figurative language is but I'm getting figurative language and similies mixed up. can anyone help me separate them from my mind with a few examples or some kind of explanation on the difference? sorry if this isn't very clear. I tried my best.
Thank you!

Your confusion makes sense because similes are a type of figurative language, not something different. Other kinds of figurative language include hyperbole, analogy, metaphor, personification, symbolism, and onomatopoeia.
This site nails it pretty well: http://examples.yourdictionary.com/exam ... guage.html
