@Ascendant Zenyatta - I find video games just as useful for character design! It tends to be that I've spent a long time customising them and become so attached I feel obliged to make them a full character of their own. But a lot of my clothing designs and such are heavily inspired by video games, especially armour and weaponry.
@foster_dawg - Ahhh, fantastic art and Snark is a real cutie. Do all her species have shark tails or is it a trait unique to her? :3
@NARANDA - Gorgeous art, and congrats on the LOC! I love his hair.
Is Tadao not worried that if the time comes he has to defend the cubs he trains that he might succumb to his bloodlust and hurt one of them?
@Pandle - I am in love with the ideas you've come up with for your humanoid species, particularly the whole 'kiss of death' thing the females have going on. :0 The social caste system sounds intriguing and very complex!
@sp00k - Welcome to the club! Gotta say, I love Fable's design! Is the whole tree branch-like marking thing intentional? I mean, I assume so, it's a lovely touch.
@TenMomentsTill - Your backstory to necromancy is fascinating, you've clearly put a lot of time into it! William and Ophiel are adorable, and so is Mess <3 Is Mess any particular creature other than a familiar, a demon or spirit or something?
@ChaosCheesecake - Congrats on all those gorgeous characters~ Ramona's colours are lovely, what animal species is she? Other than some form of canine, possibly, I can't tell?
ChaosCheesecake wrote:@QuantumNightmare: He's adopted six in counting. I'm in love with Gyr's wing pattern, reminds me of a snowy owl's wings. I also love how Gyr and Tsu are a mix of a lot of different animals, and their colors blend so well with the rest of them!
Ahhh, thank you! Gyr's wings and in fact all of his colour scheme is actually based on that of a gyrfalcon, his namesake!
TenMomentsTill wrote:QuantumNightmare ~ You really have improved a lot over three years. Sometimes, it's hard to notice if you don't have a point of reference haha. Hopefully with these new refs you'll get art of them that looks the way it should. Gyr has such pretty wings and is based off a bird just as pretty (I'm kinda disappoint Gyrfalcons don't live where I do). Why does he have so many scars? So the symbol for Tsu's clan is the one on his shirt? Also, did you base his wings off a particular bird (I couldn't find one listed on the ref, but I might have missed it)? I really like how he has short hair in the back.
At this point in my universe, I'm just doing lore updates (I've been planning OCs since I was a small child) and tightening up some stories. I usually just leave it when the person misgenders an OC if the drawing still looks like the gender they are. I don't want to get into a fight about it. I really like Folkvangr's design and concept by the way.
Out of all the mythologies you have learned about, what is your favourite culture's mythology to learn about?
Thank you so much! I'm just finding my style I think but it's cool to see an actual difference! Thanks for reading and commenting on Meetings as well, comments give me so much more writing muse.

I love gyrfalcons! I've only ever seen one in the wild and it was on holiday but they do live in some places in my country, they're such beautiful birds of prey~ Gyr's scars are kinda a long story to explain but I'll have a go, it was the culmination of a very long lore update for him~

Basically at some undisclosed and forgotten point in Japanese history, there became something of a schism in the kitsune between the two most common attitudes to the humans. The traditionalists believed the yōkai should remain separate from the humans, developing their own society and in turn being almost worshipped, and the modernists thought they should try to blend into human society and fading into myth for their own safety.
Key figures in the war were the Miko General Kabuki, an apprentice named Thais Aikaterina, a large majority of the Kurai clan and an archer known as Falcon. Or, as they would later be known: Geisha, Kaede, Kiraki and Gyr of Chikitsune.
The traditionalists were led by the kitsune Miko, priestesses of Inari. As a sign of their devotion to their deity, their coats were pure white in fox form. The de-facto leader of the Miko was known as General Kabuki, an immensely powerful priestess who singlehandedly turned the tide of the war in their favour. As a result, the infamous mercenary Falcon, who had no allegiance and had been fighting on whichever side paid, was contracted to assassinate her.
He did, of course. Didn't make a habit of not completing his jobs. However, on seeing the General fall, a young apprentice Miko named Thais was so overcome with rage that she committed a grave sin to kitsune kind and renounced their deity, Inari.
Kitsune who do not follow Inari are known as Nogitsune, and instead of an element have an immensely powerful pseudo-element called Malice. They are very rare, horrifically powerful and universally feared by yōkai.
Anyway, the sheer power released from Thais's transformation was enough to literally drag souls back from the dead and knock those around her unconscious. A Kurai boy her age, Kiraki, who had been standing next to her completely lost his memory as a result of it. And General Kabuki was brought back, albeit stripped of her Miko power by the tainted energy, and with her white fur stained almost entirely black.
The modernists won, but that's not relevant. Never mind the whole thing where the people who'd employed Falcon to take out Kabuki literally sold him to a bunch of hunters who wanted to try and create Nogitsune. It's not relevant to this part of the story. I just feel the need to point out he wasn't exactly against the Miko and the job did almost get him killed and, y'know. Tortured for a long time. My poor baby.
When he was somehow found and freed half a year later he happened upon a recovering kitsune woman in a town near to the final battleground. Believing her to simply be a Miko injured in the war, he offered to accompany her on her journey and they ended up travelling together for several centuries, making a name for themselves as assassins.
Eventually they encountered a young kitsune, Kiraki, and his best friend, a Nogitsune who went by the name of Kaede, who'd been living on the streets and they somehow became part of the group, christened Chikitsune - 'Blood Fox'. No one in the group knew, ever Gyr, that he was responsible for all their greatest problems.
They'd been together for a long, long time when, upon realisation of his role in the Ōkitsune war, Geisha flew into a violent rage and dissolved Chikitsune. Though Kiraki and Kaede escaped and later back came to stop her, it was not before she had attempted to fatally injure both Gyr and the human thief he is fond of, Eve.
His dual elements of air and energy combined with his experience in captivity after the war mean he can channel his element inwards and use his enhanced speed to affect his metabolism as well... He heals really fast, so she decided overkill was the best option.
So, yeah. That's what I have for his scar backstory. Understandably he's a nervous wreck. A lot of this was mentioned in the newest chapter of Meetings, which I uploaded this week~

I was not at all creative as a young teenager, so yeah, the symbol for the Sakurose clan is a flower half made of rose petals and half of cherry blossom petals ;0; I'd change it but it does its job of distinguishing the clan pretty well XD
Tsu's wings are not meant to be any specific bird, they were just designed to match his hair~

As for what my favourite culture's mythology is, it's a toss up between Celtic, simply for the faerie mythos, and Japanese mythology because I love all the yōkai legends!
When developing characters, what helps to influence you? It's a mix of a lot of things, really. I mostly just write and see where it goes and if I like the character I've written. Music is a big inspiration to me when writing character backstories though, I have playlists for writing or drawing particular characters!
I have a bunch of new characters but I'll just show you my new favourite and some cute art I've done recently!

This is Momentum! They were designed by fallenpegasusdA but the ref is my art~

I adore sharks, especially Blacktip Reefies and it was shark week when I got them so... I may have drawn them a lot. These are just the finished pictures.

I've finally started drawing my persona/fursona/whatever you call an alien shapeshifter, Folkvangr, in some more relaxed poses. They're a lot of fun to just draw chilling out tbh. Must be why I relate.

Also, I've recently been getting into plushie making of my characters! Hopefully I'll be able to show you my Sushi Dog Momoka in plushie form just as soon as I finish them! :3
