Kaycee had watched Orange is the New Black for a little bit, but had felt herself getting tired so she turned off her laptop and set aside the ice cream, then snuggled into her bed. She closed her eyes and fell into a deep sleep, having a few odd dreams here and there. When she awoke the next morning, KC laid in bed for a little while, though she was awake. Kaycee glanced at the time on her nightstand and saw that it was about 9:30. Kaycee slid out of bed and got dressed into pink t-shirt and white short shorts before stepping down stairs to get breakfast. Since she didn't have any morning tutoring, Kaycee felt that she could actually enjoy an at home breakfast before beginning her adventure of learning. Kaycee made herself a blueberry pancake and sat down with it at the table with a glass of white milk. She ate her pancake in silence until her parents came down and greeted her. "Hi sweetie. How was your day yesterday?" Mr. James asked her daughter, taking a seat next to her. "Okay. I was able to get through everyone yesterday." Kaycee responded, though her tone was dry and flat. The parents exchanged glances, but didn't say anything about their daughter's annoyance. "Well, I'm going to go out for a bit. Anything you want me to get before I start tutoring?" Kaycee asked her parents, trying to sound happier. She put her dishes in the dishwasher and waited. "Well, after you're done teaching, Leslie needs some baby food." Leslie was Kaycee's baby sister. The brunette nodded and slipped into a pair of flip flops. She departed out of the door and down the street, not bothering to drive anywhere. She walked into the cafe for a cup of coffee, moving through the line again.

the beeping of the 8:00 am alarm clock rang in Jack's ears loudly . groaning , he slammed it , then rolled out of bed , throwing on another pair of fresh clothes . he padded into the bathroom , and groggily fixed his hair and brushed his teeth . he ran a hand over his face , then splashed it with water . after eating a bite , he headed out and made his way to work . he swung the door open , murmured voices and the sounds of things being jumbled about in the kitchen . throwing on the stupid apron , Jack tagged his co worker , then he stoke his position at the cash register . after serving three other customers , and a grumpy Tom , Jack inhaled and exhaled deeply as the same brunette came up to the counter , his face turning into a slight scowl . he tapped away at the register , and tore the previous receipt , putting it in the small bin that held dozens of receipts , he stared her in the face , meeting her coffee eyes with his icy green ones , clenching his jaw with an annoyed tone , " what'll it be ? " he wasn't too thrilled to see her . for some reason , she really got under his skin . he just wanted to get this over with .

Kaycee heard the familiar voice and the irritated tone. What had she done to him? Granted, Kaycee thought that he was one of those annoying flirts that had nothing better to do with his time than play with a girl's feelings. But still, what had KC done to make this guy so angry with her? It's not like she'd ever really tried to flirt with him before, much less talk to him outside of the coffee shop. "Did someone wake up on the wrong side of the bed today?" Kaycee grumbled, pursing her lips. Her eyes were challenging, and she had the sudden urge to give him the hardest order just to annoy him. But the kid worked at a coffee shop for goodness sake, how hard could an order be? So Kaycee went with normal. "You know what? I don't want to know. I'll have a regular black coffee." She held up her right hand to stop the barista from answering, even if he wasn't planning to. Better safe than sorry, right? Once more, Kaycee sidestepped to the right and awaited her order. KC slammed another twenty dollar bill onto the black countertop, and took her coffee when it arrived. She held the steaming cup of java over to a table and sat down to relax with it, grateful for the time she had this morning. The brunette let her coffee cool before taking a small sip of it, being met with the bitter smell of the black coffee. When Kaycee was finally able to take a sip of the coffee, she scrunched up her nose at the taste, but knew that the caffeine would greatly help her pull through the day.

Jack grumbled under his breath ignoring the comment as he put the twenty in the register . he barked the order at Eddie , which then the wimp knocked over a pitcher of milk . pinching the bridge of his nose he stepped over the puddle which Eddie was already scrambling to clean up , and began to make the coffee she had ordered . unlike Eddie , he actually paid attention to what he was doing when making it . he slammed it down on the counter a little , harsh , but not enough to spill it . he met her gaze with his slightly cocky face a bit before heading back to the cash register . he took care of a few more customers , some of which were a bit too awake and chirpy for Jack at this hour , then swiped a pastry from the case , paying for it of course . he held the scone in his mouth while returning his apron to it's normal resting place , and exchanging it for his jacket instead . he then went to one of the tables in the eating area in front of the cafe , and took down the buttery delicious scone . while chewing , he texted Vincent , Michael , and Jake , asking them if they'd meet at the campout tonight . while waiting for their replies , he gazed outside the window to his right upon the main busy street that had buzzed to life , his eyes scanning the people that walked by aimlessly .

Kaycee adjusted in the black chair, leaning up against the rungs that supported it. Her handle on the coffee loosened a bit as she fell into a trance-like state. When this happened, Kaycee was able to lose herself in her own thoughts. Some days, these thoughts were light and stupid. Fantasy lands, books, the like. But other days, when not in a great mood, her mind wandered to the deepest pits of her brain. Often times, KC found herself reliving moments she had purposely buried away. Her first driving test, her first breakup, that sort of stuff. Unfortunately, if Kaycee had a close emotional tie with the memory, it was hard to block it out. Kaycee sipped at the coffee as her eyes travelled along the windows, despite her mind being the farthest from a glass cage. When the cup felt mostly empty, she shook it slightly and nearly let it fall from her hands. It landed in her lap to KC's relief but when she handled it again, there was a small coffee stain. Stifling a growl, she marched to the trash can and tossed the cup in. Kaycee looked around for a napkin and found a container resting on the front counter. Mumbling an 'excuse me,' and receiving several annoyed snorts and whispers, she grabbed a wad of the napkins and dabbed at the stain. It only made it worse, and so now there was about a quarter sized circle on the right edge of her shirt. KC grit her teeth and marched over to the trash once more to toss away the now soiled napkins. Her day had quickly been ruined by some stupid cup of coffee. Taking one quick glance at the stain, Kaycee noticed for the first time how dark it was. Next time Kaycee came here, if there even happened to be a next time, she would not order black coffee. Kaycee stomped back over to her seat and threw herself into the chair, almost pouting. Her eyebrows were knit in an angry fashion and her arms were crossed. The brunette's eyes were brooding and cold, and she was ready to snap at anyone.

the sound of a chair scooting violently across the cafe's hard floor made Jack snap back into focus from his gazing . he turned and saw that the brunette was a few tables away , and had her arms crossed , looking like a kid who was about to throw a tantrum . he sneered , seeing the dark coffee stain on her pink shirt , and the jumbled up napkins on the table from her efforts . it was hilarious about how girls got frustrated at the smallest things . he then remembered how annoying she was , and his grin grew wider . sure he had incidents where entire cups of coffee got splashed all over himself , but he usually was only a bit irritated as he could always just walk home and get some new clothes . it was worth it to see her angered at one little stain on her shirt . he sat back and waited for her to blow up , or storm out of the cafe . he even for a moment expected her to throw someone else's coffee in their faces as she would stomp away . a few other people in the cafe had their attention turned to her face twisted in a scowl , slumping in the chair . it was pretty busy today , considering they were one of the only places serving coffee . he set his hands behind his head , propped his feet up on the table , and stared out of the window again , a little smirk still applied on his face as he admired the beach in the far distance .

Kaycee's gaze stuck to the window , not bothering to look at anyone else in the coffee shop. If KC knew how people worked, they were probably snickering behind her back and she just did not want to deal with it right now. Kaycee pouted there , in her seat, for the next few minutes or so, until she decided that it really wasn't that bad. KC had only managed to convince herself that momentarily, however, because she knew that later she would notice it again and the frustration cycle would begin all over again. Kaycee looked at the brown watch the normally sat on her wrist, seeing that she still had about an hour until her first student of the day. Her friends most likely wouldn't be up yet, especially Terry, but KC decided to shoot Gina a text, asking if she was free. Kaycee stuffed her phone back into her pocket after sending the text and lingered in the coffee shop, finally being able to regain at least some of her dignity. As her gaze swept across the room, the brunette noticed the barista's eyes locked with hers and Kaycee was able to see a smirk resting on his face. She scowled and rolled her eyes and looked away. Now Kaycee really regretted giving him a difficult order. She felt her pocket buzz and Kaycee averted her fierce gaze to the iPhone screen, seeing Gina's message. 'Yeah, I can come hang. Wanna meet up at the coffee shop?' Kaycee replied with her own text, saying sure and that she was already there. Because she was awaiting her friend's arrival, Kaycee didn't want to leave but at the same time wanted to escape as quickly as possible. Part of her out of embarrassment, but the other part of her wanted to punch the boy's face so bad that his face was no longer pretty. Realization hit her as Kaycee rested her gaze on that boy's face. Gina was bound to do something stupid, being taken by that guy's attractive state. Suddenly, Kaycee tried to mentally will him to leave. She glared at him as if having a contest to see who could win the most annoyed award.

Jack glanced back around to see if the brunette was still there . she was indeed , but was now staring him down with her sharp eyes . seeing she wasn't going anywhere , he didn't move a muscle , his feet still propped up on the table . he wiped the smirk from his face , and decided to play her little game . he stared back , his dark green gaze just as cold , while wiggling himself snug in his seat . after letting her know he wasn't leaving anytime soon , he turned to look out the window again . he focused his eyes on the sidewalk at the people passing by , but in a way that he wasn't staring . it only took him a matter of seconds to knowing he was seeing the brunette's friend from earlier when Michael was trying to win her over at the beach . she was decently pretty as he guessed most of the brunette's friends were . he took his feet down from the table , and kinda slouched there instead , chin in his hand while he averted his eyes from the girl , and glanced in the other direction . he was going to see how this one planned out . unlike Michael , he didn't bother girls nearly as much , as he simply was used to waiting for them to bother him .

Kaycee saw the smirk fall from the boy's face and she couldn't help but smirk triumphantly instead. It was as if the smirk was passed from him to her. She kept the staring contest going on for the next few minutes, until Gina approached her, looking back and forth from the boy to Kaycee. Gina cleared her throat awkwardly , and KC snapped her head, annoyed at the interruption. But when she saw it was her friend, Kaycee's scowl left her face and was replaced by a small grin. "Who is that?" Gina whispered in Kaycee's ear, checking out the boy who seemed to have being having a staring contest with her friend. Gina noticed that the boy was very attractive, the hair messed up In a cute way and she could see how the sleeves of his shirt formed around the taut biceps. Hearing Kaycee speak helped wake Gina up from the inspection of the attractive teen. "I said, he's no one. Just some stupid guy who's probably all conceited." Gina heard the bitterness in her friend's voice and lifted an eyebrow. "I wouldn't put it past someone who looks like that. He's pretty hot , Kaycee, admit it." Gina grinned cheekily and nudged Kaycee, trying to get her to budge as well. Kaycee only mumbled a response as she rolled her eyes, incomprehensible to Gina. "Oh get over it, you're just bitter because he's prettier than you." Gina's comment left Kaycee bug eyed and sputtering, not being able to mutter a response. Since when has Gina been so sassy? Perhaps to try and get that guy's attention, but still. Gina took the chair across from Kaycee, who was now glowering at her. Gina didn't think too much of it because she knew Kaycee wouldn't unfriend her... Yet.

Jack looked away when she did , but he watched them out of the corner of his eye . at first they were just talking like regular girls , chatting it up . of course all he caught were whispers when he strained to hear , since they were too far . he could definitely tell they were checking him out by the way her friend smiled and kept looking at him . he admitted , he was at least a bit satisfied they were looking at him . he kept watching them out of the corner of his eye . he heard the last few sentences come out of her friend's mouth . she was obviously trying to convince the brunette he was attractive . he let out a amused laugh at them , and got up to leave . he didn't put any effort into the way he walked either , he just simply left the place . pushing the door open , it connected with a body mass . a bit startled , Jack glanced up and saw the familiar sharp face , and beefy wall of muscle of one of his best buds , Vincent . Jack let the door close behind him , as Vincent flashed a bright white smile , " hey man . " Jack raised a surprised brow , " i thought you were going to be locked up for at least for another day ? " Vincent winked , " let's just say i got out early . " he shook his head at his jock friend , " y'know your dad is going to come blazing around the corner any minute now . " Vincent replied with much pride , as if he solved the hardest math problem possible , " nah , he's working late tonight . i just have to be home by six . " Jack shrugged , " if you say so . " he wasn't entirely convinced , as Vincent's dad was known to say things he didn't quite mean , and sometimes did whatever it took to catch his soon red handed . him and Vincent chatted away while passing the cafe window , onto the next street and the next .
