Leveling up Pokemon is different in the app, you don't power them up by battling. Instead you go onto the Pokemon's page and right above the evolve button is the power up button. You need stardust and candies of that pokemon to level them up though. So don't worry, even if you can't fight the pokemon in the gyms you can still power up your pokemon and get stronger. ^_^

Yes, but as stated before in this thread, it's not a good idea to spend Stardust when you're level 15 or less

Quick question - what's the ideal level to evolve your Pokémon? I've been kind of paranoid on spending candy because I feel like I'll just find a higher CP version in the wild...

Anyways, yeah! Pokemon Go! I haven't had a ton of time for the app and it eats a bit much battery for my taste, but it's really fun and I love how it's brought people together... I've seen trainers everywhere and the dream of Pokemon in real life being almost-realized is just too good.
Thanks to T-Mobile it doesn't use my data now either which makes me thing I really ought to play more. I know there is a gathering for it at the County Faire I'm going to tomorrow. ^^
